cool, that's actually one of the games I'm playing through now from PSN. I can't wait till I get off disc 1, fuck Aerith.
You can transfer saves from PS3->PSP and vice versa so that's pretty useful. Have fun.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
Question,

a firend of mine still owns his old psp 1000 with cfw on version 3.4 oe - whats the best and easiest way to upgrade to the latest version ?

Since its a separate style of homebrew and details of it are easily lost in this thread, I've just created a separate thread for the Half Byte loader here:

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=401927

Could anyone with experience of running it please contribute to the thread detailing which homebrew works and what's worth checking out, that way it can become a very useful resource. I've already done a quite extensive section on emulation but I don't know enough about which more "general" homebrew apps work on the HBL and are worth checking out since there's so much to sift through. Any help is appreciated.

For those that haven't checked the progress of it lately its quickly becoming a very viable alternative to custom firmware. The big losses are no PS1 ISO support and no running of UMD backups but most other areas are covered now, emulation in particular.

So the combination of Peace Walker and Half-Byte finally made me cave on a PSPgo. However I'm having an issue updating it to 6.20. It's on 5.70 and I'm attempting to update it via the PSP->GAMES->UPDATE->EBOOT.PBP method. However when I select the update in the games section of the XMB it tells me "This game cannot be started" and if I try it through the System Update option I get "No applicable update data was found". I've even grabbed OFW 6.00 just in case and I'm still getting the same results! Anyone have any pointers? This is driving me nuts!

Have you put it in /PSP/GAME/UPDATE?

Also if you have, this is a known issue with the Go, apparently. Dunno how to fix it. Sorry.

PSP>GAME>UPDATE>EBOOT.PBP

No s.

Could you not just transfer it over via the media go application?

Edit: Won't Peace Walker come with a 6.20 firmware update? You could just use that.

I know its stupid but you haven't created a "eboot.pbp" folder right? ou ahve just stuck the .pbp file into the UPDATE folder?

Maybe try a different download source.

Is it possible to get online with the PSP? I want to visit the store maybe buy something but every time I try to get online it says that the server is down or under maintenance. I have 5.50 Prometheus is there a way to get it to work again?

Haha, no eboot folder. This ain't my first rodeo, it's just been a while. I tried a couple of different download sources too. At this point I'm just going to wait for Peace Walker to finish downloading. By the way, RoadRunner Lite... not so good for downloading files off PSN. I started before I posted the question and I'm still just now at 66%. Woof.

so i finally got dosbox running games (that guide was useless)

grand prix 2 runs like shit :(

average framerate while in-game is 0 fps

how can i improve this?

The PSP's performance on dosbox averages something like a 386SX. Just use that as a guideline on what games are feasible on it. I think GP2 is a pretty demanding game? 486DX-P1?

F1GP probably ought to be pretty effective.

no one ?

I was wondering what is the latest version of Prometheus? Because the usual search methods have said v6 but my usual places only have v4 so I'm kind of confused on what to actually use on my PSP. Hopefully somebody can shed some light on this so I can be ready when NeoGeo Heroes comes tomorrow,

I guess Dark Alex's site is down? I can't get to either of the links in the OP. I assume this is also why I can't update via the network update option. I'm running 4.01 M33-2 and want to update.

what is the difference between 5.50 GEN-D3 and 5.00 m33-6?
I'm wondering the same thing. I just bought a PSP 1000 w/ GEN-D3 from eBay but I also saw a lot of m33-6 being sold. I hope I bought the better version. :D

5.00 is by Dark Alex. 5.50 GEN is by a different group of hackers. 5.50 GEN can play games up to OFW 6.20. It works with prometheus. Not sure about 5.00 and that hasn't been updated for a long long time now.

This is more of a general psp question. Is it possible to jump directly to, let's say, 1:35:30, in an audio file on the psp? I seem to remember being able to do that in movies, I think? Right now, I have to use the fast forward function every time I turn off my psp in the middle of a podcast and that can be really annoying when the mp3 is over 2 hours long... Also, how exactly does the resume function work? Sometimes I'm able to continue from almost exactly where I left off, and sometimes not. What's going on with that? :(
Quoted for new page :) Anyone know anything about this? Maybe I'm the only one who doesn't have a better mp3 player :lol

Question: Is there any compatibility list for all the no-umd options in CFW?

I know actually having a UMD in the drive works for everything, but...

I was at a wedding, had my PSP in my pocket, and laid down for a second on the couch at the reception hall. My PSP fell out of my pocket, through the back of the couch, through a guard rail, 2 stories down, and into water. It works, but the screen is FUBAR and the UMD drive is shot. I can use it with RemoteJoyLite, but certain games crash at a point with some of the no-umd hacks in the CFW, and it would be great to know which is which beforehand.

5.50 GEN is also actively being worked on. m33 is pretty much a dead project.
It is, but there are just as many patches coming out for m33. GEN hasn't seen a significant update in a year now too.

5.00 M33-6 works with ISOs that have been patched with Prometheus - I've been playing Peace Walker and Persona 3 Portable on it without a problem. I rolled back to it because I had some problems with corrupted saves on 5.50 GEN-D3 - thankfully they were fixable, but it was a pain in the ass to do - and it all works fine. I'm going to stick with this until there's a game that I absolutely can't play on it or there's a 6.xx CFW.

I use my PSP for an mp3 player for my long-ass drive to work, I always pause the mp3, then put the PSP into sleep mode (without backing out of the mp3 player). When I turn it back on and select the podcast, it'll resume from where I left off. I know that starting a different audio file will reset the resume point, but I don't know what you can do with the PSP that won't reset it (games? videos?). I'm pretty sure that I can save new podcasts through the RSS reader, but again, be careful not to accidentally start playing one.

Im pissed I cant patch the Gladiator US demo to run on my CFW 5.50Gen. Fack.

Hex edit didnt work and the pbp unpacker tool didnt help. Can these new game demos run if patched correctly or they cant?(Demos w/ FW 6.0+)

Try ISO Tool v1.60. Eboot decrypt and then replace eboot. The program is self-explanatory. Doesn't even need prometheus prx anymore.

The program is run on the PSP itself.

Guys, I'm terribly afraid I may have just bricked my PSP-3000.

I was on 5.03 GEN-C, activated through MHUspeed, and I was experimenting a bit with Resident Evil 3 on Popsloader.
After trying to load the game to no avail on pops 3.52 and receiving yet another black screen after the introduction sequence, I turned off the system.

Now when I turn it back on, the memory stick icon blinks for 1-2 seconds and the power led stays on, but the screen remains completely dark.
I suspect that it's simply stuck in Sleep Mode, given that it's almost impossible that anything in flash0 was touched or compromised in the process. Still, I attempted to hold the power button, but the situation doesn't change.

I'm really clueless in regards to what to do now. Should I take out the battery and check if it reboots properly?

Any advice would be really appreciated at the moment.

Yeah, I'd leave the battery out for a bit and then put it back in, remove your memory stick (leave it out) and try again. It seems odd that it could even potentially brick your system since nothing should be touching your flash0.

You've got me scared to use my 3000 now. :lol

Thanks for the prompt and reassuring reply!

Indeed that's what I thought too.
I've NEVER heard reports about Popsloader or PS1 emulation ever bricking a PSP system in such circumstances, and I certainly avoided any personal contact with the flash memory whatsoever.

Let's see if taking out the battery solves this frightening matter. I'll keep you updated.

EDIT: To my utmost relief, the PSP rebooted absolutely fine.

As I hoped, it was simply stuck in Sleep Mode and the black screen was just the result of Resident Evil 3 hanging.
Thanks for your help, hikarutilmitt!
