PSP Custom Firmware Thread

OK, I just preordered the new Tales game coming out tomorrow. I do have a second CFW psp, so I don't have to rely on the broken one, but I haven't bought a new PSP game since Castlevania. Can CFW play the newest games, or do I have to patch the game or something?

The PSP is on 5.50 GEN-D3

Why are all of you guys still using antiquated firmware? Upgrade to Prometheus already.

No need for a guide. Download the correct Prometheus v4 CFW patch (5.50 Gen or 5.03 Gen) -NOT to be confused with the separate Prometheus v6 ISO patching module.-
Extract it and copy the folder with the eboot into /PSP/GAME, then run the patch from your PSP's XMB. the patch will take about 2 seconds to finish.

What is this Prometheus? Also is there a way to recover savefiles that are corrupted due to have a newer firmware? I still had the damn MGS5 fix on when I was playing Persona 3 and I went back to D-3 now my Persona save doesn't work

So yeah, anyway to get a PSN digital release to run on CFW?

I'm running 5.50 GEN-D3 on my PSP2000. Wanna play my copy of Peace Walker on it. Getting sick of my PSPGO =/

EDIT: Nevermind, got it working :D

Yeah, I did it on my corrupted Persona 3 save when I went from 5.50 GEN-D3 back to 5.00 M33-6. I used this tutorial and it worked perfectly.

Finally hitting the big time, folks. I should own a mint-condition PSP 1000 by the end of this weekend. Firmware is pretty old, somewhere in the 3.xx range. So what all do I need? Is a Pandora battery required for 1000-series models, or can they be soft-modded? Any thorough tutorials online I should follow?

Sorry for all the questions, total noob here.

Hi GAF,

I recently started playing my PSP again, and bought a bunch of new games. I'm not really interested in CFW anymore, and am currently running 5.00 M33 How would I go about removing it? Just run the firmware updater?

Get the latest OFW 6.31.

just wanted to give my 2 cents:

i recently installed opera mini 5.1 via pspkvm
really awesome, do some micro browsing in the bed before i sleep or when i wake up
it can display full webpages really well
the GUI is somewhat laggy, testing with opera mini 4.2, the GUI/UI experience is much faster/snappier but 5.1 is just better (tabs, though it's not entirely useful on mobile device but still good)

must have if you carry your psp around with you with free wifi around unless you got wifi-enable phone

sadly, i cant use it down at my university, it just wouldnt connect but the original browser works, but it is heavy outdated and just shit after you use opera mini

i'm surprised how well it works, it's sad that the psp browser never got any update/love, sony needs to just have a native opera browser for a future update, the files to get 5.1 running are like 400kb total

can i use two 16gb micro sd hc cards with it because i've read it doesn't support them or you can only use it with one card inserted. whats the deal?
I use it with 2 8GB cards and I'm pretty sure Mejilan uses it with 2 16GB cards. Shoot him a PM and ask him.

Can you use the QUERTY keyboard from the PSP? I remember it not showing up when you clicked on the web serach tab so I went back to 4.x.

And yes its sad a fucking java browser(old tech, we talkin a jar file) is better then Sony's PSP browser BS.

PS: even apps like twitter work on PSP via the Java emulator since you can use your wifi connection. This is old.

you can choose what kind of kb in the same menu where u install the apps, vm settings or something, there's only 3 options anyways
i changed it to sony psp's kb, it's the fastest
the default one should be faster, but i dont understand how it works/cant get use to it

and no flash

if you are going to using it:
1. cpu -> 333mhz
press the menu button (start) it's in there somewhere
2. switch the analog and the dpad controls around
again, it's in the menu options before launching the files

Hey guys, I've got a question. I'm about to buy a Slim on crraigslist. I think it's on the latest OFW, but I'm not 100% sure. Is it possible to get any Slim to CFW regardless of what OFW its running? Also, is it possible to do this WITHOUT a Pandora Battery? I remember a long time ago when I had one of the 1000 series I was able to hack a Slim using my own PSP (which was running CFW) It might have been the other way around (hacked Slim used to get a Phat to CFW) but I know it's possible cause I did it. I just don't know if it's still possible. I haven't been keeping up with the PSP scene at all, so I don't know if there's any new developments and whatnot.

Slim cannot be a late model 2000 or a 3000. If the PSP in question CAN be hacked, if it's on the latest OFW you will need a pandora since there's no exploit that will let you downgrade a PSP without one, yet.

This isn't really a about custom firmware, but I have a problem and maybe someone can help.

I recently bought a new memory stick for my PSP, and ever since I got the new stick, any songs I put on it only play for about 30 seconds, then get corrupted. Anyone know of any way to fix this? The memory stick isn't fake, or the wrong one, I've checked :\

can you check with another memory stick if it do the same?

Works fine with the 1GB stick it came with, just not the new 4 gig

Make sure you do a full restart on the PSP when you switch between MSs. It has a tendency to act erratically if you don't.

Have you tried formatting it with the PSP?

What brand is it? Where did you buy it from?

Also, the files aren't actually corrupt. I can transfer them back to my PC and they play perfectly fine, all the way through.

EDIT: Okay..I downloaded some homebrew media player, and everything plays perfectly fine. But the music player built into the PSP doesn't work? What..?

Did you buy it online or from a store? If online it may be a fake you can check to see if magicgate is enabled under the psp memory settings

Guys, I'm terribly afraid I may have just bricked my PSP-3000.

I was on 5.03 GEN-C, activated through MHUspeed, and I was experimenting a bit with Resident Evil 3 on Popsloader.
After trying to load the game to no avail on pops 3.52 and receiving yet another black screen after the introduction sequence, I turned off the system.

Now when I turn it back on, the memory stick icon blinks for 1-2 seconds and the power led stays on, but the screen remains completely dark.
I suspect that it's simply stuck in Sleep Mode, given that it's almost impossible that anything in flash0 was touched or compromised in the process. Still, I attempted to hold the power button, but the situation doesn't change.

I'm really clueless in regards to what to do now. Should I take out the battery and check if it reboots properly?

Any advice would be really appreciated at the moment.

Arren said:
Thanks for the prompt and reassuring reply!

Indeed that's what I thought too.
I've NEVER heard reports about Popsloader or PS1 emulation ever bricking a PSP system in such circumstances, and I certainly avoided any personal contact with the flash memory whatsoever.

Let's see if taking out the battery solves this frightening matter. I'll keep you updated.

EDIT: To my utmost relief, the PSP rebooted absolutely fine.

As I hoped, it was simply stuck in Sleep Mode and the black screen was just the result of Resident Evil 3 hanging.
Thanks for your help, hikarutilmitt!

Something [apparently] like this just happened to me.

For how long did you take out the battery?

I was playing Castlevania Chronicles yesterday. Today when I tried to play again, the console didn't turn on, only the green power led stays on.
The only difference [I guess] is that the memory stick light doesn't blink.
I removed the battery, waited 10 min., tried again and only the green light stays on.

Is my PSP bricked? I can't comprehend why it would be since I wasn't updating or anything =\

It's a PSP-2000 with GEN-D2, BTW...

I was so freaking excited about getting Ys and I finally got P3P, this frustrates me >_<

Well, after removing the battery for 2.5hrs, I put it back on and the green power light still stays on (and continues that way) and it doesn't seem the console is switching on...

Any ideas?

Worst comes to worst just get a pandora battery and reflash it.

I put the memory stick back [without switching off the console first]

- Pictures = OK
- Videos = OK
- Save files = OK
- Games = corrupted data, and it's only showing 3 files, (I'm using the plug-in to organize data by folders)

Do I have to rip my games again?

Edit: re-starting the console fixed that, I'm going put the battery again to check if it works...

Edit 2:

- If I use the battery+AC, the console wont turn on [only the green LED]

- If I use AC, then put battery and remove AC, it works fine until I try to turn it on again

I have no idea what's going on and what has caused this... =\

Need some advice guys, I just updated from m33-6 to Gen D3 and my PSP turns off after the white PSP screen. When I disable that from the recovery menu, some times it will load the xmb, other times the psp will just turn off after being turned on.

When I can actually get to the xmb, I can chose a game but then the psp turns off. Any ideas? This is on a PSP 1000 (phat) with a fully charged battery.

Edit: disabling some plug-ins seems to help, testing everything out now.

I've got PSP-3000 and I use ChickHENR2 and Custom Firmware enabler 3.70 to hack ach time I boot up. How do I go about running GBA ROMs and what is the ebst software to use with my setup?

Any ideas about what could be wrong with the battery or what's causing the problem? :(

I'm not sure how, but from what you've described, the battery is acting like a pandora battery? Do you have the means to make it a normal battery again? Not entirely sure if you can via a PSP3000

That's what I'm thinking too. Your battery is acting like a pandora's battery. Do you have another battery to use? Or a friend's psp and try using his battery?

I'm not sure if I want to start a thread for this and this might be the closest fit threadwise.....

My 2000's casing is really looking long in the tooth, and I finally dinged it up enough to want to replace the shell with a new OEM from ebay. But I notice that the much nicer 3000 shells are for sale too. Is placing my 2000 system into a 3000 OEM shell an impossibility dimensions-wise? If i recall the edges on the 3000 were much more rounded so I'm not sure if the 2000 would fit in that spot at least.

I've got it setup where my battery is a pandora battery but my magic memory stick has an IPL loader so it loads up my NAND firmware.

But I want to get a new memory stick. How do I keep this solution with a new stick?

what's the best/easiest way of getting CFW to run on a 3000? all i know is that the system can't be above 5.03 OFW.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

makes good threads.
So I went and preorder the limited edition Ys VII today knowing well that it won't play on my ancient CFW. I've been cautious about upgrading my CFW recently because I don't want to ruin my system or lose the ability to play my old school emus. Since I'm too lazy to scan through this 100 page thread for the solution I'll just ask it here and hope someone answers.

What's the best basic path for me to take to get from 5.00 M33-6 CFW (PSP 2000) to the more up to date 5.50 one so I can play Ys VII? Also will it hurt the ability to play with all my old emus (NES, SNES, GEN, etc)?

Get XGEN Updater v5 to update to 5.50 GEN D3, and then find the Prometheus addon to update to 5.50 Prometheus, and then most current games (hopefully including Ys 7) will work.

Through 3 models of PSP's I have never, once, restarted my PSP after sticking in a different stick. Are you sure about that? No problems personally.

I'd expect that his stick is a knock-off from Hong Kong or something.
