PSP Custom Firmware Thread

Running off of Custom Firmware
It's my understanding that this signed HEN is still limited to user mode. Without full kernel mode functionality, you won't be see a feature-rich true-CFW-like experience using it.

It's not limited to user mode, it's based on the same kernel exploit as the Mina Sukkiri-based HEN.

Awesome! Got it working. Thanks =)
now.... What are the best homebrew apps for 6.35?

Homebrew that used to work with HBL works with this HEN too, mostly. Check here for a start.

where? I'm trying to find a cheap one here in Sweden but I can't find it for less than 1500 kr (~150€)

In France, it was at 150e ind ecember, but i didn't realized it would actually come back to 250€ after that -_- Hopfully i found a store (on fnac.com, a french megastore) which had it at 170 and i had a 50€ coupon!

My PSP 2000 was turning off when I tried to load this signed 6.35 HEN. I read somewhere that turning of the UMD Cache could help. I turned it off and it works now. FYI.

And that did it! Odd Setting, but now its working fine. Thank you.

I don't own a PS3 so I can't do it like that.

You can also just go to the official Sony Playstation website, go to product registration and register your PSPgo. HOWEVER, before you do that, make sure to go to your account settings on the webpage and check "OPT IN to Sony email and whatnot". They will send you an email with the code in 3-4 days.

10 free games is for the EU guys. If you buy a brand new system, you get 10 free games for registering your system.

Here in the US, we get 3 games (Ratchet, LBP, and Socom FTB2) for doing the same thing.

Hopefully someone in the know can answer this...

With this ability to sign code, is it likely we'll ever be able to play PS1 rips on the PSPgo? I mean rips from the PS1 original games, not the PS1 releases on PSN. Actually it doesn't even need to be on the PSPgo, because I have a PSP-2000 and PSP-3000 as well.

I really want to play through my Final Fantasy collection on PS1 (FF Origins through to FF9) on my PSP. I don't want to use my PS2 or PS3 because I'm afraid the discs will get damaged. Preferably that would be the PSPgo so I can use my Dualshock 3.

So what does this mean?

edit: oh it wasn't true.

I'm not hugely aware of the ins and outs, but what the hackers have been able to sign is getting better and better with each week. This week we had a 'Hello World' app and then a day or two later a signed 6.35 HEN.

It wouldn't surprise me if, eventually, it's worked out how to sign PSone rips. We can already make them into EBOOTS to run on CFW, and these EBOOTS access the Sony's own PSone emulator to play them. Surely once the solution is known the software that turns PSone ISO rips into EBOOTS could also be updated to sign them.

Obviously there's no guarantee of perfect performance. I believe Sony handles PSone emulation on PSP on a game-by-game basis, and those games generally tend to be the ones released on PSN.

This is probably goofy to most but probably one of the main reasons I upgraded to a PSP Go (in addition to playing my UMD games) was the video feature to watch Starcraft videos and analysis.

I know it is supposed to support MP4 but it's been real picky on what types. For example, I like to watch the Day9 Dailies from Blip.TV and you're able to download the video in MP4 format yet it won't work on the PSP Go (my ipod nano recognizes it though). Anyone else have this problem?

Also, anything in particular that I need to look for when downloading MP4 files to make them compatible, or is there anything I can do to the PSP Go to view them, without having to reconvert the whole video? Finally, anyone know of any homebrew to allow the viewing of youtube videos (.flv) as well?

I never really looked into the matter with my PSP fat but now with the smaller size of the PSP Go it's so perfect.

Couple of questions for some of you that have done CFW on your psps...

Basically my Japanese FF psp is on FW 5.03 what do I need to add CFW to it?

Do I need to upgrade?

Also is there a way to add cfw so its permanently on there and I wouldn't have to reboot it ever time the system is turned on, and still be able to run back up isos emulators and new psp games as well as sign on to psn?

It might seem like a lot but i'm honestly just curious as to what I can do with it all at once.

Also is there any other programs or cool things you can do with CFW besides just playing games?

Thanks!!!

I know the ISO loader works with 6.20. I've been ripping my UMDs only to discover I just wanted WipeOut Pulse and Virtua Tennis.

I've just read that 6.20 is the only HEN that has the VSH menu and is the only one that will allow you to run iso loaders. Don't know if this is true but it means I will definitely stick with 6.20 for now.

There is PSP Filer on 6.35 that allows you to rip your UMDs. I think iso loader works fine on it too.

Is this doable on the PSPgo or is this only for the older PSP slims?

you can use 5.03 or upgrade to 6.35.

in addition to the 6.35 PRO Signed HEN, there's also a 5.03 Signed KXploit!

signed kxploit 2000v3: http://u.115.com/file/f330bc931a

signed kxploit 3000: http://u.115.com/file/f3bb4196f2

I just installed 6.35HenPro and Prometheus ISO loader works fine.

What was this about a PSP Go being 100 dollars? Was this some sort of black friday or cyber monday thing?
Its that price used at gamestop.

To get it new at that price, people were using a coupon from Carl jrs for $50 off and price matching radioshacks sale price of 150.

Guys, I'm having trouble updating to *OFW* 6.35 on my Go. When I try to run the update, it tells me that it cannot be started and I need update data that is compatible with the model in use.

I'm baffled...running the U.S. OFW update on a U.S. Go.

Do I need to delete the Minna No Sukkiri exploit first?

EDIT: Missed that the Go has a separate update EBOOT. Was downloading the 1000/2000/3000 series version, lol.

PSP Filer Ver.6.6 works on 6.35 signed/unsigned HEN. This allows you to rip your UMDs.
Prometheus ISO Loader version 0.1 by liquidzigong also works on both signed and unsigned 6.35 HEN. This allows you to play your ripped UMDs.

Have been using these for a little over a week and haven't had any problems.

6.20 lets you switch to 333mhz which I'd love to have on 6.35 but we can't right now. Also, no PS1 rips.

Since I don't use my psp go for anything I decided I should throw a cfw on it and try it out.

Is there a step by step tutorial for how to get it the cfw on it? I downloaded the signed 6.35 HEN linked a couple pages back.

Actually, Light VSH menu works on 6.35 which will allow you to switch to 333mhz mode.

I just bought a PSP Go. Is a lovely little device but i have a question. Should I upgrade it to 6.20 or 6.35? I want to use homebrew on it and i'd love to play backups on it from my library that I have with my psp2000. How are the iso loaders on the firmwares? Any discrepancies between the firmwares.

*edit. Also,is firmware 6.20 able to connect to the PSN store, or is that only the latest firmware?

Only the latest firmware can connect to PSN unless using PSNfucker/lover.

People on the Go recommend staying at 6.20 since you can just download PSP/PSX games through MediaGo last I checked. But HEN 6.35 is supposed to be getting improved daily.

Sweet thanks!

Do I need a Pandora battery in order to make these work or no?!
all you need is a memory stick.

if you have a PSP 1000/2000 that lets you use a pandora battery, you should be using CFW instead of one of these signed loaders!

Right I forgot to mention that now that I look at it. I have a Japanese psp 2000 at OFW 5.03

I'm guessing a pandora battery is probably the best route but i'm not very tech savvy so I don't know which would be better to be able to run both ISOs and new UMDs..

EDIT - How do I know what the motherboard type on this psp is, and also any more links you might have to help me get this going on my own would be amazing..
Thanks again

With all the stuff that's coming out now, is there a way to downgrade the firmware on a PSP-2000 or 3000 yet? Mine are at too high of a firmware to use as UMD rippers.

the most reliable way to find out for sure is to use the signed KXploit, then run PSPIdent.

if it's a TA-088v3 motherboard, it can't use CFW.

I just updated my new PSP Go to firmware 6.35 so I could go online with it an claim my 10 free games but now when I connect to the PSN store it asks me to download firmware 6.37 which has literally just come out!

Is there a way I can access the store without updating? I suspect I will lose homebrew if I update, but I want my free games and also want to buy a few today so I have something to play. Any help? Can I redeem my 10 free games with the Media Go software?

Alright wait, do I need to update my psp in order to run ChickHen on it in order to find out what motherboard I have? Won't that ruin my psp since it's better to be at a lower OFW?

As you can tell i'm a bit confused.
Appreciate the help

well, you're on 5.03, so you use the signed 5.03 kxploit, no firmware updating necessary.

Don't know if it work on hen 6.35, you should have go with de hen 6.20 though.
You can't redeem the 10 free games with media go, you need to download the thing with your psp.
