PSP Custom Firmware Thread

Wait, does that mean that as of right now I can have CFW on my PSP Go and play ripped PSP games off MS the same way I'm doing it now with my PSP-2000?
no. that was just for Lando Jones. he has a PSP that can use CFW. PSP-3000, PSP Go and one motherboard revision of the PSP-2000 models do not have the ability to use CFW.

I didn't think there was a working SNES emu for the Go at this point??

The one I have boots up, you get the legal notice, scroll down and accept, then it gives you the message "exit to XMB? X-yes Circle-No" or something and no matter what you press it either closes and reopens the error message or shuts down the system.

Is there a working SNES emu for gos using HEN? could someone point it out?

So sad my PSP had 6.30 on it when I bought it.

I hope they sign a 6.31/6.35 version soon that has the improvements. Everything's working okay but it'd be nice to have the 6.20 features.

Actually, TN-D is the moment I'm waiting for (PSX compatibility) but thanks for the heads-up, for sure. I just got TN-B in tonight and an hour later this pops up... I'll skip it and wait for the Policenauts edition.

I don't know what version it is but the one I have runs perfectly on 6.20 TN HEN. I pulled it off the memory stick of my PSP 2000.

Hey all, sticking my head back in here. So after the PSP keys were alleged to have been found, I set my sights on getting back my Spirited Green PSP 3000, which I had sold in favor of a hackable PSP 2000. I found another one in great shape and bought it today, so now I just wanted to ask what is available on 6.31, the OFW my new PSP currently runs.

When TN-D is released the PSPgo will be my favorite handheld of all time. I never ever thought I would be saying that having been an avid PSPgo hater from the beginning. I've owned every major handheld since the original Gameboy.

I have a psp 3000 3g version 6.20 that can be downgraded to 5.03. Is it worth it though? My UMD backups work fine with prometheus, genesis/gba/snes emulators work fine, and now thanks to to TN-C I can play games online again. So what advantage do I gain by downgrading?

What is a latest CFW for PSP 1000 ?
I think I have Prometheus 2 v4 I believe or something like that. Is there anything better around?

I'm running 5.55 GEN-D3 on a fat and I was wondering the same. Is it worth updating to another cfw?

I'm running OFW 6.31 on my PSP 2000 and was wondering if there was a CFW I could use yet to play my ripped UMDs? I'm assumimg not but would like to be sure.

this is a BIG deal if I understand it correctly. essentially means no need to use the patapon exploit on a PSP Go in order to run homebrew, correct? All you'll need to do is extract 6.20 TN-C and run direct. is this accurate? if so, woooooooohoooo.

Should be accurate, because 6.35 HEN can be launched from the XMB without doing anything else. I guess it works the same way for 6.20 TN.

Have they come out with simpler methods of going from OFW to CFW with the new ability to sign stuff?

Not yet and I don't know if they can do it because signed HB run in user mode.

Anyway, concerning my previous post, I used ISO Tool to dump my UMD and it worked fine. It's not signed so I had to used HEN to load it.
I will try my ISO with the loader now.

Is there a way to dump UMDs on 6.35 PRO (PSP-1000) ? I tried Umd_dump but it doesn't seem to work.

PSP Filer is the program you want.

Insert the UMD, hit triangle, and then the R button. It will allow you to name the file and output it to an ISO folder on the root of your memory stick.

would you care to take a look at the version? everything i've seen posted online indicated no SNES emus worked on the go with HEN at this time.

Yup, just like an app directly from Sony. No more ear piercing "Pata Pata Pata Pong". Praise the lord.

n addition to the TN-C update, Total_Noob also announced a few features he plans on adding to the next update 6.20 TN-D, including POPS support (aka the PS1 playback everyone has been wanting) and improved NAND protection.

Sweet!

Excuse my ignorance but why do we even need this anymore if the homebrew apps are getting signed directly?

none, 5.00 m33-6 has the best homebrew compatibility and any game can be patched to work on it

Really? So how do I patch this 6.20+ only PS1 game I bought off the PSN store?

You can do that on official firmware, you just have to convert them first.

Also there is no CFW for Go (but can run some homebrew).

similar question to onken's, but i'm still on 3.99 m33, and i don't know what to upgrade to or how. obviously i'm not exactly keeping up with psp releases, but i guess my priority is just being able to run emulators, and preferably run new psp games without having to patch them. thanks

Kernel mode homebrews can't be launched on OFW without HEN, even signed.

I bought a used PSP Go on 6.35. I'm very disappointed with the system's buttons, but am happy with the homebrew. I just need to find a good SNES emulator...

My favorite thing about signed homebrew is that the PSP's Pause/Resume function works with it, even emulators.

onken said:

I'm pretty sure the way it works is this:
Signing homebrew will let you run homebrew code. However, it won't give you kernel access, which is needed for homebrew such as ISO loaders (to load backups), flash writers (for downgrading and custom firmware), and .prx plugins (custom services that run on top of every game, such as a screenshot app, a cheat app, or an overclocking app).

The function of the HEN is to run some homebrew code that exploits a security hole in the PSP's kernel and allow for kernel access.

Sadly, Sony patched the kernel's security hole in the new 6.37, so there's currently no kernel access on that firmware. However, signed homebrew will still work, as long as the homebrew doesn't need kernel access (and most don't). To regain kernel access, a new HEN will have to be made. However, to make a new HEN, a new kernel exploit will need to be found.

Edit: Beaten. I really need to post faster instead of proofreading 100 times...

I read that some ISO Tool features can brick a PSP. So far, I only did rip a game and made an XMB shortcut. I think that only CFW features would brick my PSP (but I have no use for them) so basically I will avoid using them :p

Hey guys, I'm having a huge problem with my PSP-2000. It's not realted to 6.35 or any of that HEN crap, so I'm giving you a break from all those questions, haha.

So anyway, here's the deal. My PSP had been working just fine up until recently. I played it a lot during winter break and had no problems. Then classes started again and I had no time for it. Yesterday, I tried to add an .iso to my ISO folder and I got some error about there not being enough space. This was very strange considering I have a 16GB memory stick and I'm only using up about 10GB or so. The iso was only like 600MB, so there was definitely enough room for it in there (no, I don't have pictures, videos, or anything like that. Trust me, there was more than enough room for the .iso) I tried using my friend's PC (I have a Mac) and I got the same error. So I copied all my files over to my Mac, formatted the memory stick on the PSP, and moved my stuff back. I didn't have any problems loading my stuff on there, but when I went to Games on the XMB, it says there are no games! It also doesn't see my save files :( I'm freaking out right now because I don't wanna lose my stuff. I checked the system info and it says I'm still on Prome-4, so I really dunno...
You probably already know this, but just in case: On a Mac, when you mount something as removable storage (like a USB drive or a PSP) and you delete something from that external volume, you have to empty the trash before you remove it. If not, it leaves invisible Mac-specific files on there that will occupy room. Is it possible that you deleted several ISOs, didn't empty the trash, and now have the "ghost files" still there? An easy way to check is to plug it into a Windows PC and inspect it with the "View Hidden Files and Folders" option in Windows Explorer.

So i should stay put then??

Unless you need the PSX emulator update: Yeah, stay at M33. You aren't missing anything from GEN.

Has there been work on getting CWCheat to run in HBL? Honestly, that's the thing I really want if we can't get a full CFW. I want to update my PSX emulator/Sony's emulator from 5.50 for Biohazard/Resident Evil 2 and the like to run without issues, but losing CWCheat/Gameshark ability for PSP/PSX games really is the dealbreaker for me.

I think that plugin needs kernel mode.

I just wanted a screenshot plugin on 6.36, wondering why Sony can't implement it on OFWs.

*siiigh* I wish someone would find a way to update the firmware already.

Or give us the updated PSX emulation files/method. Because frankly that's the only annoyance for me on the PSP. Outside of Tactics Ogre/Third Birthday/Last Ranker, I can't care about any of the other new PSP titles past 5.50. :/

The ISO to XMB is just a front end to an ISO loader so nothing can go wrong there. Works great btw. Not that annoying to use an ISO loader but I would maybe consider buying a few games in UMD now rather than only PSN (every game I own is from PSN - I only use ISO to play undubs).

Alright this hacked psp project is almost complete just have a few more questions.

My psp is still at 4.01 m33-2
I hear that 5.00 m33-6 is where I need to be and to also have prometheus 4 installed..
Not sure how to do that.
Any help would be appreciated

Also any links to making isos or back ups of current game I own would help too

So I've found a great list of signed homebrew apps, including picodrive, and DaedalusX64 Alpha 630, but no word on a signed and working SNES emulator. if anyone can confirm, I'd appeciate the link.
