PSP Custom Firmware Thread

What kind of 1.5 homebrew that requires eloader is there that's still relevant?
I've got a couple of 1.5-styled apps, but they work just fine in the 3.xx, 4.xx, and 5.xx kernels just by placing them in the GAME150 folder. Or, in the case of this plugin, CAT_XYZ subfolders under GAME150.

Anyone fuck around with the new beta DaedalusX64 beta?
I would KILL to get shit like Zelda 64, Ogre Battle 64, and Perfect Dark running on a portable. I imagine this emulator is still very far from that, however, despite the new activity.

Zelda would be unplayable on PSP :/

Most probably. But it'd be fun to at least tinker around with... if they ever get to the point where framerates are playable and stable.

But... OGRE BATTLE 64!!

I checked the last two pages and didn't see a mention, but PSP Updates mentioned Datel has a new product.

The Lite Blue Tool. It works on both 2000 and 3000 models of the PSP. Includes a switch to toggle Service and Regular mode and an led for how much battery life it has.

Nov. 28th. If this works, I'll grab a PSP-3000.

I repeat: PSP-3000 may possibly be hackable now.

AND Official 5.02 firmware will be out soon. No major features mentioned.

Not wanting to rain on a possible parade but: if this was real, Dark_Alex would have found out already, I'm sure.

I have a feeling that the 2000/3000 compatible sticker simply means it's a thin battery that will fit under the regular battery cover.

That's a real possibility. Only 10 days to find out.

lolz, wow if true. Doesnt Datel run the risk of being sued by Sony?
Nah. They would have with the regular tool battery long ago.

Thanks to college I haven't been able to follow the PSP 'brew scene in months, anyone know if there's a music.prx for 5.00 M33? Basically it lets you play your own music while playing a game. I have no idea who made it originally, but someone else wound up porting it to 4.00 (although with no game sound muting support) after a looong time, and it was what kept me from updating to that 'till then; anyone know if there's a version for 5.00? I'd rather hold on updating until someone ports it if it doesn't work with 5.00 M33.

Haha, isn't it Datel that usually repackages homebrew solutions created and released by better people to be sold commercially? It'd be funny if they actually figured something out this time around.

I doubt it, though. Still, if so, it'd be just around time when the piano black 3000 hits US stores, no? That'd be AAAAAAAAAAAAAACE.

I hope the reason they delayed the black 3000 was to put new screens in them. I'll get one if that battery really works.

Fuck that. If that battery actually works, I'll buy one and send it to Dark-Alex. Let me reverse engineer it and release the tools to make my own.

Well I'm in need of some sort of DAP, primarily for vids while at work(I get bored and hate my coworkers) and with the price of the 8 gig sticks down to around 40 I have been considering a PSP, although I dont really see the benefits of the 3000 series....hmpf.

Anywho, does the M33 firmware recognize the 16 gig sticks?

Datel's Raw Science engineering division have been hard at work to unllock the protected service mode since the PSP 3000 come out in Japan last month.
“Although there were early indications that the PSP3000 had embedded Service Mode capability, it was clear that silicon level investigation would be required to understand the new mechanism” said Datel.
“Once the target IC had been identified, our engineers then de-capsulated the device and prepared it for hi-resolution SEM imaging” he added, explaining the high-tech methods employed in this project.
The engineers then used circuit extraction to reveal the additional service mode only encryption functions which were not present on earlier generation PSPs. In order to be compatible with these encryption functions, Datel created an advanced IC controller which will be put straight into use in their newest service mode battery technology.
Clowns :lol

Basically, they paid DA for first rights. And it was about time.

Reading up on it more it's still useless and without a new pre-IPL and new IPL, you can nothing with this new service battery

alright, right now i've got CFW 3.71 M33-2 installed on my slim PSP.. can i jump straight to CFW 5.00? or do i need to install something in between?

would it be easier to upgrade to whichever version allows for the network update thingy to work for CFW?
halp :(

I THINK you can jump to 5.0. I'm pretty sure 3.8m33 introduced network update, if you wanted to go to that instead.

I did 3.71 M33 to 4.0 to 5.0 just to be safe...but I'm pretty sure going to 5.0 wouldn't be a problem.

If you want one, today is a good day to get one. They're only $94 on Amazon. I'm tempted to get one.

Hi guys. If you want the updated PSP-3000-only backgrounds included in official 5.02 on your PSP (any model), you can decrypt and dump 5.02 using Dark-Alex's newest PSARDumper app.

Basically, you decrypt and dump all 5.02 files using PSARDumper, locate 01-12-3g.bmp (under F0\vsh\resource IIRC), rename it to 01-12.bmp, and flash it to your PSP's F0 (vsh\resource again, if I wasn't mistaken before), and reboot. Voila, better colors. Or something.

I just did it without any issues.

I also grabbed 5.02's version.txt (F0\vsh\etc) and flashed it to my PSP, to see if I could regain access to the PSN using my PSP. I'm still getting an error message, but Googling seems to suggest that it's a temporary PSN server issue. *shrugs*

Got a question.

I got a Pandora Battery and a Magic Stick. But I have no other battery (i fucked it up). Do I need a regular battery in order to create a custom firmware on my psp?

no.... you need a regular battery to boot into the actual firmware
right now, it will only boot into service mode, so your psp is still useless without a regular batter

If you have the Pandora and the Stick, you're good to go once you have custom firmware on the PSP. Once that's taken care of, most Pandora/MMS making apps have an option to turn the battery back to normal. At the very least, I know UPMS does. Right now I have a dedicated memory stick with that on it, and all I need is the stick to shove custom firmware on someone's PSP.

Thanks for the help fellas. I guess I will be needing a regular Sony brand battery then. Anybody know where is the cheapest place to get one?

Read the OP and am still trying to figure out how to get POPSLoader working correctly. I dumped all the files for 401.PBP, but do I have to do that for 303.PBP and 330.PBP to get every current version of POPSLoader? I don't really get it.

There's only one current version of POPSLoader (which is the plugin). I've linked to it in my tutorial.

POPSLoader is capable of loading a dozen or so different versions of POPS (the Sony-developed PSOne emulator for the PSP). You'll have to manually extract every single version of POPS that you want, separately. You can follow my tutorial for that. Allow me to quote myself.

Actually, scratch that. I've got a question. Every version of POPS that I've chose to run Vagrant Story with freezes my PSP except for the "Original from flash" option. I followed the OP to a tee and still no luck. What's up?

1) If it works with 5.00, keep on using 5.00.
2) There might be something wrong with your setup. Have you tried running other PSOne games? If all games fail using the non-flash POPS versions, then you might have grabbed the wrong POPS files when you dumped 'em, missed some, or didn't decrypt them when you dumped them. (I don't know if encrypted versions of the POPS files work, but I think not.)

Well, the only one I dumped was 4.01. I wasn't aware you had to actually dump each and every CFW version to get the files for each POPSLoader version. I'm downloading 3.02 right now since one of the compatibility lists you posted said it ran well on 3.02. I'll edit this and let you know if it works right. Thanks for the help so far dude!

Ah, two things.
1) You need to download the relevant OFWs, not the homebrew CFWs.
2) POPSLoader is a homebrew plugin. POPS is the Sony-developed PSOne emulator. The files you're looking to dump from the OFWs pertain to POPS, not POPSLoader. POPSLoader = Dark-Alex. POPS = Sony. One version of POPSLoader runs all (compatible) versions of POPS.

It really doesn't help when you use the wrong terms to explain your issues.

That said, you're welcome. And good luck! Do pay special attention that there are three different "generations" of POPS out there, each with their own set of files. Make sure you find and copy over ALL files pertaining to the POPS you're decrypting, dumping, and looking to set up.

Ohh, okay. Sorry, I'm pretty new to the homebrew scene so to speak. Am I correct to assume that I would need 3.03, 3.30, and 4.01 (for now, at least) to be able dump everything needed to run any version of POPS with POPSLoader? (Hope I explained that right)

I see no reason to stay at 4.01 M33 over 5.00 M33.

Look 7 posts above this one, where I (re-)list exactly which OFWs you should be taking POPS from, if you want POPSLoader to be at its utmost.

Ah, thanks. Quick question (sorry for so many, lol): I dumped and threw in the files needed for 3.02, but when loading Vagrant Story with 3.02 nothing ever loads. Any idea what I could be doing wrong? From the looks of it I did everything in the OP correctly.

My copy of DJ Max Clazziquai Edition SE came in the mail today, and immediately dumped the disc to my MS. But it will not boot. I just goes back to the XMB like nothing happened. Heck, even the UMD won't play. I was dead set on enjoying some Clazziquai tunes during slow periods at work today too! TT_TT

Is there a way to rectify this?

Edit: To clarify, I'm using 5.00m33-3 if that helps.

Hey guys, quick question. I want to update to 5.0 from 3.52 m33-4. Now, don't I need to do an extra step to get 1.5 kernel functionality? (the homebrew I use is for 1.5, and I have a PSP1000)

thanks!

Mejilan

You might need to install at least 3.80 M33 before moving up to 5.00 M33. I forget, exactly.

The 1.50 kernel patch for 5.00 M33 has been out, so you're good to go. Shockingly, you'll find the links in the OP.

Great. Trying to install 3.80 and it's saying i need 3.52 m33-3 or higher...but I have 3.52 m33-4 installed. I don't know what to do :/
