PSP Custom Firmware Thread

Just upgraded from 5.00 M33-6 to 5.50 GEN-D with no problems. Does GEN-D support getting future updates through the network update feature in XMB ? :D

Just to confirm: I can never access my PSN account (for example Remote Play) with my PSP if it has CFW, correct?

But I -can- transfer downloaded PSP material from Ps3 with no issues to CFW (ie I know my remote play on local network works fine).

Popping in to say I updated from m33-3 to GEN D with no problems.

Got a question though, what program do you guys use to convert video (like .avi) into psp playable format?

PJM: D already worked perfectly on 5.50B.

No online though - does that change with 5.50D?

PJM:D wouldn't work for me after installed GEN-D, game would start and then return to XMB with 80010013 error code.
A quick search said to disable the GAME plugin in Recovery Menu/Advanced and its worked perfect since.

Bump for the new page.
Sounds amazing. Will try when I get home.

Now I have one remaining issue - since PS Store apparently still doesn't work for the PSP, can I redeem a code from Media Go, or preferably, my PS3 to get DLC? Specifically, I got that preorder code for Gran Turismo and the instructions specifically state it must be redeemed using the PSP itself, but I want to redeem it before it expires.

That said, anyone know exactly how the DRM works with PSP PSN content? With the PS3 it seems trivial, it's locked to the PSN account, but how does it work on PSP? Is it locked to the PSP, the Memory Stick, the PSN account, or a combination? Since there's no user profiles on PSP...

So I can go from M33-6 to 5.50 Gen-D right away or do I have to go from Gen A to B to C to D?
I think it should be safe to go from M33-6 to Gen-D since it does a full system flash. I went from M33-6 to Gen-C with no problems (except the Gen-C bugs, of course).

If you upgrade to CFW 5.50 Gen-D, you'll be able to enjoy a new work around that at least allows you to download PSN content to your PSP using the MediaGo PC app. It's not as comfortable as direct PSN access, but at least we're not totally cock-blocked.

I believe using a PS3 as a proxy is another avenue, but I suspect more folks have PCs than PS3s around here.

Yesterday night I tried to install MediaGO on my PC but that thing required me to install Quicktime, I absolutely *hate* those all-in-1 software packets. Anyway, I can't seem to connect to PSN using MediaGO: "connecting server please wait" after entering user+pass forever. Argh.
So you can buy games through MediaGO and upload them to your PSP? Or am I wrong here?

I don't have a PS3 and have no intention to buy one so can't buy stuff through there...

I downloaded MediaGO last night and purchased PJM: Delxe from the MediaGO PSN store on my 5.50 GEN-D PSP.

Not exactly CF related, but can someone explain how the PSP game sharing works? I downloaded some review copies from the store into my PSP. Taking the memstick out and putting it into another PSP is a no go. How do I "share", PS3-like the games on the 5 PSPs allowed?

AFAIK, PSP PSN purchases, demos, etc are authenticated to that specific PSP via a license file that is stored in the PSP flash memory (could be flash2).
Not sure sharing works like PS3 does, you can associate a number of PSP with a PS3 system but only 1 PSP can be currently authenticated and active at any time??

Not sure how much use this is to you but I download all of my PSP games on my PS3 and I have no problems transferring them to both of my PSPs, provided I'm signed in on the PS3 when I copy them over.

Cool, thanks, I'll have to retry that.
In case anyone is interested: ScummVM PSP 1.0rc1 runs flawlessly. Download it here: http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/scummvm/scummvm-1.0.0rc1-psp.zip?download - So far I've tried Beneath a steel sky (works great) and Goblin's Quest 3 (awesome!)
The only problems I've encountered so far are getting used to the mouse emulation controls.

not working here :o

I have GEN-B and downloaded GEN-D

after starting the update the screen goes black and after a while the PSP just turns off :\

and I can't switch it on normally, it keeps being black, only after once getting in the recovery menu without doing anything it boots up again

You need Gen-B2.

Any of the three ways below:
1) Download the game on multiple PSPs using the same account (the same way you share on PS3)
2) Download with MediaGo to multiple PSPs
3) Download with PS3, and then copy from it to multiple PSPs

As I said, the game already worked fine with Gen-B2 - just couldn't play online (PSN was blocked). Does online work with Gen-D?

Eh, PS3 DLing is not available from the debug PS3 in the office. I'll have to go with the MediaGo->multiple PSP DL route.

One more thing: if I understand correctly, the game is locked to the PSP, not the MStick, right?
As long as one PSP was the unit that downloaded the game from PS3/PSN, I can copy the file from one stick to another and it will work, is that correct?

EDIT: forgot to say "thank you" to all like the little polite person I am ^^

It sucks that it resets all settings; I'm especially pissed off about my network settings being erased because I do a lot of travelling.

Also, there doesn't appear that the 'Enable Flash' option is in the 'System Settings' (at least on mine anyway) so I had to turn it on in the recovery menu.

So I'm a little behind on all of this. Will Gen-D let me play Persona? (I'm guessing older firmware would have already let me play Phantasy Star Portable, Monster Hunter, MGSP and Drac-X but I'm a newbie to this and it sounds amazing that I won't have to swap discs anymore.)

Played a bunch of Persona last night, so I'd say that's a yes :)

Ok I am still sitting on M33-4. Since others have jumped from M33-6 to GEN-D, is it recommended that I upgrade to M33-6 first? Or can I go straight to GEN-D?

Does the application to make a Pandora and magic memory stick work on Gen firmware or should I make it with M33 before I update?

Is there a reason to upgrade to D if I already can play most of my games on B just fine with the Yoshiro hack?

Does Disgaea 2 stop bitching about DLC not being on the stick with D?

I mean I'd upgrade for the PSN stuff (like the Lunar/MGS:Peace/etc. demos) but PSN stuff isn't huge on my list of reasons to upgrade.

NISA already stated that they will release the first DLC for free and it will fix that bug.

I rather have Toro and Kuro make it to Disgaea 3 AND 2 for FREE instead of Plinar for free over this. :|

Ok I went straight from M33-4 to GEN-D. Nearly crapped myself when no games would work, then changed the UMD driver to M33 Driver. Don't know if that is the correct one to use, but it works fine. Persona is playing as well as Crimson Gem Saga I had on here. Still need to finish that too.

Yeesh, bitching over the splash screen now?
It's just a quick white screen with a bit of text letting you know that the on-the-fly decryption worked.
I would imagine that should the decryption fail, you'd get some kind of error message to help you trouble shoot. It's not a big deal, and it's gone in a second.

And fuck, your games work without any extra hoop jumping and tinkering! It's a fantastic development!

Is this guide still accurate? I just found a dirt-cheap PSP phat with official 5.50 on it and I wanna downgrade/put CFW on. Already have a pandora battery. I need to be able to run the UMD of Persona I have here, right away though (or rip it to MS I guess).

Yes but quite outdated. Works with XP, not Vista or W7 AFAIK.
Many great GUI based easy installers now. Can't remember name of any of the top of my head though.

5.50 Gen-D2 coming.
Fixes some online gaming issues with certain games, and apparently changes the on-the-fly decryption splash page in some fashion.

You might as well wait for Gen D2.

No need. 5.50 Gen-D is pretty excellent. Gen-D2 has one or two more bugfixes and tweaks, but it's probably nothing worth waiting for.

I used Total Video convertor when I converted my Spider-man animated series dvds. It was a piece of cake. :D

The memory speed up hacks are in the process of being ported.
Hopefully they'll be in for 5.50 Gen-D2, but if not, they probably won't take too much longer.

I'm pretty sure that the Dark-Alex's experimental save states plugin (newest version) works on Gen CFW, but I haven't personally tested it. I think it's for PSP games only, though.
