Mejilan said:I believe you need to be on 5.50 Gen-B2.
I've read reports that a symptom of being on the first version of Gen-B and running the Gen-D updater results in a blank screen.
You do not have to upgrade to the buggy Gen-C first, though.
navanman said:100% correct as always Mejilan. I was on 5.50 GEN-B and the update resulted in a blank screen when running the updater.
Updated to GEN-B2 and it worked first time after that.

When I updated to GEN-D, it formatted all the flash partitions which was a bit of a pain, had to enter all my saved wireless APs again.
RurouniZel said:Question. Does anyone know how to take a demo I downloaded and patch it? I downloaded the new Lunar demo and it has a Eboot.PBP, Document, and DocInfo.edat. I'm trying to get it work and convert it to an ISO so I can patch it, but no luck.
Any help would be great, I REALLY don't want to go official to play the demo. >>

Mejilan said:Did you try NPDecryptor? Not to be confused with Yoshihiro's recent Game Decryptor and the like, which are for UMD ISOs.
Mejilan said:DISABLE ALL CUSTOM THEMES BEFORE UPGRADING YOUR CFW!
Only install CFWs from the default theme (color doesn't matter).
You should be able to continue using custom themes afterwards.
I hear that the existing 5.50 patched CXMB still worked with Gen-C, so I imagine Gen-D will be fine as well.

Mejilan said:Updated to 5.50 Gen-D, restored my plugins and custom themes, and no compatibility issues so far.
The newest SNES emu (Euphoria R2.1) works a treat. Old games work fine. No homebrew issues yet. Ripping ISOs works the same as always. Now, to the meat of the testing:
I took the UNHACKED versions of my 5.55+ games, and here are the results:
-Ys VII (JP) works without a problem.
-Disgaea 2 (US) works without a problem.
-Persona (US) works without a problem if you switch to the Sony No UMD driver. It still fails with the M33 No UMD driver, just like the hacked version of the older Yoshihiro decrypters.
-Soul Calibur (US) works without a problem. It even surprisingly defeats the anti-piracy countermeasures, something that Yoshihiro's decrypters alone could not. No more ripkits needed!
Finally, I tried loading SoulCal straight from the UMD, to see if the on-the-fly decryption would work off disc. It does. Works exactly like the ISO, only slower, as expected.
The only annoyance is that there's a garish screen that displays before the loading of a game that requires on-the-fly decryption. But at least it lets you know that the decryption succeeded.
So far, I'm VERY impressed. Not only is it much easier to use than Yoshihiro's game dectrypter, but it seems to work better as well (no need for further SoulCal hacking, for example).
Well done team Gen. I hear that their boosted video playback compatibility as well, and that updated and speedier memory stick drivers are next on the agenda. 5.00 M33 is getting more and more obsolete by the second, IMHO.
Edit - For some odd reason, this CFW update is a total flash. So you'll need to redo your settings, time/date, networking info, console ID, and PSN account info. Etc.

Mejilan said:It was, until the recent Gen update.

DarkJC said:I think when you're upgrading from 1.5 you need to make a stop at 3.51 though, I forget the reasons why but if you skip it it has potential to muck things up.
SmokyDave said:Are you guys aware that you can make a Pandora battery from a 2000 battery easily? It's a risky process but I managed it pissed at 3 in the morning. You just cut one trace on the PCB and then when you wish to revert to normal battery, draw the trace back in with a graphite pencil. I did this about 2 years ago and my battery has been fine ever since.
The trace is illustrated below. I absolutely would not advise doing this unless A; you know what you're doing or B; you have a spare battery lying around. Make a fairly deep but narrow cut through that trace line (Pandora'd) and then scribble a graphite pencil into that groove and blow off the excess after (Normal'd).
