I believe you need to be on 5.50 Gen-B2.
I've read reports that a symptom of being on the first version of Gen-B and running the Gen-D updater results in a blank screen.
You do not have to upgrade to the buggy Gen-C first, though.

100% correct as always Mejilan. I was on 5.50 GEN-B and the update resulted in a blank screen when running the updater.
Updated to GEN-B2 and it worked first time after that.

Anyone have this problem? I'm on 5.50 Gen-B2 or whatever the one before GEN-C was and I was trying to use the internet browser on my PSP since my internet was down and I was seeing if it was just my computer. When I tried to use the browser, it gave me that blue screen saying your settings are corrupted, press circle button to restart. I did it and it shut off, tried loading the browser again and it did the same thing.

Your probably going to need to format flash1 and reset all your settings.
When I updated to GEN-D, it formatted all the flash partitions which was a bit of a pain, had to enter all my saved wireless APs again.

I never used GEN-B, I went straight from 5.00M33 CFW to GEN-C, so I'm guessing it's OK to now go from GEN-C to GEN-D yeah ?

Yeah, it's not that unusual to need to reformat your flash after installing or updating a CFW. It can be done easily via the recovery console (hold R while booting up from a hard shutdown). I've had to do it on occasion both with Dark-Alex M33 CFWs and Team Gen's CFWs.

If you're already on Gen-C, then yeah, I imagine you should be able to update to Gen-D without too much trouble.

Cool, that worked. Thanks

Question. Does anyone know how to take a demo I downloaded and patch it? I downloaded the new Lunar demo and it has a Eboot.PBP, Document, and DocInfo.edat. I'm trying to get it work and convert it to an ISO so I can patch it, but no luck.

Any help would be great, I REALLY don't want to go official to play the demo. >>

I'm not sure if anyone will know this seeing as how GEN-D is fresh......but if I have some .ctf custom themes working on my PSP right now (I'm on 5.50 GEN-B2) will it affect their compatibility with this new GEN-D firmware?

Did you try NPDecryptor? Not to be confused with Yoshihiro's recent Game Decryptor and the like, which are for UMD ISOs.

DISABLE ALL CUSTOM THEMES BEFORE UPGRADING YOUR CFW!
Only install CFWs from the default theme (color doesn't matter).
You should be able to continue using custom themes afterwards.
I hear that the existing 5.50 patched CXMB still worked with Gen-C, so I imagine Gen-D will be fine as well.

I believe that I read from earlier Gen-C updaters that the games would even work off UMD.
I find that very impressive, personally.

I'll be able to test it with Gen-D shortly.

Ah, I have the other one, I'll try that.

good looking out there. I would have never even thought about that since I haven't upgraded since I started using custom themes. Thanks a bunch...

It can cause a semi-brick. Not irreversible if you have a Pandora battery, but still.

When did sony block CFW from PSP store? I was going to buy PJD but now I can't wtf.

A week or two. It's not so such that they're blocking CFW users, as they're blocking ALL users with older FWs. Since the current newest CFW is based on an older OFW, we're shit out of luck.

If you upgrade to CFW 5.50 Gen-D, you'll be able to enjoy a new work around that at least allows you to download PSN content to your PSP using the MediaGo PC app. It's not as comfortable as direct PSN access, but at least we're not totally cock-blocked.

I believe using a PS3 as a proxy is another avenue, but I suspect more folks have PCs than PS3s around here.

That didn't seem to work, I just got an error and it exited me out of NPDecryptor. Granted, it said it didn't necessarily work after 3.9 so... :(

More detail: This morning when I was on 5.50 GEN-B, it said I needed to update the firmware. Now that I've updated to 5.50 Gen-D, it starts like it's going to boot, but then says "Error 80020148".

Thoughts?

EDIT: Nevermind, I didn't use NPDecryptor correctly, lemme try this again (it's writing an ISO now).

EDIT EDIT: IT WORKS!!! THANK YOU!!!

Damn, I wish I would have known that upgrading from 5.00 M33-6 to Gen 5.50 B2.

Can I upgrade from 5.00 M33-6 to Gen 5.50 D straight away?

Also, is there an easy installer that does the upgrade automatically?

THanks.

Updated to 5.50 Gen-D, restored my plugins and custom themes, and no compatibility issues so far.
The newest SNES emu (Euphoria R2.1) works a treat. Old games work fine. No homebrew issues yet. Ripping ISOs works the same as always. Now, to the meat of the testing:

I took the UNHACKED versions of my 5.55+ games, and here are the results:
-Ys VII (JP) works without a problem.
-Disgaea 2 (US) works without a problem.
-Persona (US) works without a problem if you switch to the Sony No UMD driver. It still fails with the M33 No UMD driver, just like the hacked version of the older Yoshihiro decrypters.
-Soul Calibur (US) works without a problem. It even surprisingly defeats the anti-piracy countermeasures, something that Yoshihiro's decrypters alone could not. No more ripkits needed!

Finally, I tried loading SoulCal straight from the UMD, to see if the on-the-fly decryption would work off disc. It does. Works exactly like the ISO, only slower, as expected.

The only annoyance is that there's a garish screen that displays before the loading of a game that requires on-the-fly decryption. But at least it lets you know that the decryption succeeded.

So far, I'm VERY impressed. Not only is it much easier to use than Yoshihiro's game dectrypter, but it seems to work better as well (no need for further SoulCal hacking, for example).

Well done team Gen. I hear that their boosted video playback compatibility as well, and that updated and speedier memory stick drivers are next on the agenda. 5.00 M33 is getting more and more obsolete by the second, IMHO.

Edit - For some odd reason, this CFW update is a total flash. So you'll need to redo your settings, time/date, networking info, console ID, and PSN account info. Etc.

So.. Any good, simple tutorials, that have been updated for this new release?

I know I've asked this many many times, but I still haven't found one

It's been ages since I've dealt with 1.50, but here's a potentially viable upgrade path for you:
1.50 -> 3.51 M33
3.51 M33 -> 3.51 M33-4
3.51 M33-4 -> 5.50 Gen-A
5.50 Gen-A -> 5.50 Gen-B2
5.50 Gen-B2 -> 5.50 Gen-D

Another option:
Upgrade to 5.03 OFFICIAL.
Run ChickHen Exploit R2 in order to...
Launch Hellcat's Recovery Flasher in order to...
Upgrade to 5.00 M33.
From there, upgrade to 5.50 Gen-A, patch up to 5.50 Gen-B2, and
finally run the 5.50 Gen-D installer.

I went from M33-6 to Gen-D in one shot without issues. I don't think there's a problem going from a previous release (non-Gen, at least), really.

I think when you're upgrading from 1.5 you need to make a stop at 3.51 though, I forget the reasons why but if you skip it it has potential to muck things up.

If you're at 1.5, though, you could use the xgen updater to pandora the battery, install xgen to the stick and just flash it that way, then turn your battery back to normal.

Hrm, I've been using Dark Alex's still but I just picked up Disgaea 2, looks like I'm going Gen-D to get it to work. :D

Are you guys aware that you can make a Pandora battery from a 2000 battery easily? It's a risky process but I managed it pissed at 3 in the morning. You just cut one trace on the PCB and then when you wish to revert to normal battery, draw the trace back in with a graphite pencil. I did this about 2 years ago and my battery has been fine ever since.

The trace is illustrated below. I absolutely would not advise doing this unless A; you know what you're doing or B; you have a spare battery lying around. Make a fairly deep but narrow cut through that trace line (Pandora'd) and then scribble a graphite pencil into that groove and blow off the excess after (Normal'd).

That's what I did when I first got my psp. I used the stock battery it came with and cut the tracing and picked up a stamina battery for after since I had no concern for the stock battery.
