PSP Custom Firmware Thread

I have a PSP Go and I'm using two PSN accounts (one for the US store and one for the Euro store).

Is it possible with the CFW to play my games from both accounts without having to activate the account each time I switch! (it's such a hassle!!)

You can't CFW a Go.
But with CFW, you can't play the newest digital releases anyway.
If a digital release (full game or demo) has the newest PSN encryption applied, it won't run on CFW.

However, if you buy a Go, you do have a few options.
Currently, the best HEN runs only on 6.20, which may lock you out of some of the newest PSN releases. I heard rumors than the upcoming 6.20 HEN-C might solve that, but I'm skeptical and expect, at best, PSNLover-like functionality.

That said, a Go also has lesser HENs available at 6.35 and 6.36.
So you can always upgrade to those (the newest OFWs) to run your PSN downloads legitimately, and use the lesser 6.3x HENs to play ISOs and some homebrew. Just keep in mind that those 6.3x HENs offer less compatibility and fewer features than the 6.20 HEN. At least for now.

There's hope that with the release of the private keys, all of these HENs and CFWs will become a thing of the past. But for now, that's not the case.
 
Hum I recently bought Tomb Raider off the PSN store and I'd like to play it on my m33 PSP. It's got 6.30 encryption on it though, is there any way to extract the iso and repack it with popstation, or is that too much to ask? Or just a change something on the PSP to make it think it's a later firmware?

I had a quick question for everyone. Would it be better with HEN to run games in their uncompressed ISO format? I have all of most of my PSP library on my HD as CSOs, but I can easily uncompress them if needed.

I'm running 6.35 HEN on a PSPgo so I know I can't up the clock speed yet, so I'm thinking uncompressing any games I want to play is the way to go....

Have you tried reripping the disk? That's one of the easiest things to trouble shoot.

Unless you used a really shitty CSO compressor I wouldn't think it would make a difference. It shouldn't have degraded the quality to make a difference. I'm not positive but I haven't heard any problems. Someone else might have better info though.

Some games have framerate problems and other issues when played from CSOs, so it's probably better to stick with ISO.

Likely in general, but those framerate problems tend to me more related to the game streaming data. compressing it makes it take long to load and can even drain the battery a bit more (so I used to notice when I used CSO for every game I owned).

Honestly, if you have the space, I'd stick with ISO in general since it helps the battery and loads a good bit faster.

I've tried ~20 sRPG/RPGs so far on CFW with max compression and no issues here except for a teeny bit of skipping in FFT in the FMVs which account for less than .5% of the game. Even KH:BBS works perfectly.

CSOs let me fit all the PSP games i want to own on 32GB (which ended up being roughly 40 titles), if I went to ISO I'd need another 10GB or so - which would mean another memory card.

I have an extended battery so that's definitely not a concern either.

I know I could have issues, but so far they've been great saving me 20-40% per game on average. Seems far better to just keep everything CSO to me, and if I ever do run in to an issue with a particular title, just switch that one to ISO on a per game basis, since so far nothing has come up.
 
Ya, I've never had trouble with CSO either. If he's already got CSOs there's no reason to switch unless he notices a problem with a specific game. It happens so rarely in my experience.
 
So I picked up a PSP3000, and it has firmware 6.30 on it. Does it matter if I update to 6.31 or 6.35 if I want to run HEN on it? I know there are different versions of HEN depending on if it's 31 or 35, but is there any difference between them?
 
Opened up my brand new PSPgo and noticed something weird. Although it has the little piece of paper saying that the Patapon 2 demo was preinstalled, when I turned on the system I couldn't find it. Under the video section is a GT prologue trailer. Under the game section was an ESRB rating program and Pixeljunk Monsters (don't know if this is a demo or full game). The system had 6.20 on it. This was a brand new console from Target.

Has anyone gotten a new system with those things preloaded?

Sorry, but I have no idea what you're referring to when you say that you received a game code on a CD, or took the main file from that CD.

I just picked up a Go last week, brand new, and it came with 6.20 as well.
Nothing was preloaded, however.

They should be just the same. There are a lot of threads in the wololo forums for each version of HEN and their compatibilities with homebrew.

There wasn't any actual "ripping" involved. Game came on a DVD, supposed to be booted from a debug unit. It's actually pretty rare to get one of those nowadays, but happens.

Anyway, I just copied the main file on the disk and renamed it to .iso. Some game files, like MGS or KH:BbS are two parts that have to be joined (sorta like the LV0 and LV1 in a DVD9), but this is a small game, so it was a single file.

Sorry, but I have no idea what you're referring to when you say that you received a game code on a CD, or took the main file from that CD.

Whoops, sorry for insisting then, I thought it was something common, aside from the media the game came on. Hope I get the UMD code soon.
 
So Prometheus doesn't run on the Go? I just want to play my ripped PS1 collection on the go on the Go. I hear the ISO loader works for new releases, but wasn't sure about the PS1 games.

Prometheus runs on the Go, but you can only load PSP games.
 
So, has there been any sign (pun not intented) of signing tools for PSP based on the leaked keys yet? Or is everyone keeping a low profile while Sony gets all litigious?

I had the GT trailer and PJ Monsters demo as well. I'm at 6.30 btw. Bought it last week at Radio Shack.

My PSP is still on 5.50 GEN-B. I'm thinking of buying Ys 7 USA, does it work if I update to 5.50 Prometheus 4?

I don't want to waste money if I can't get the game working.

What's the upgrade path? GEN-B --> ????? Also, what's with the savegame backup when moving to Prometheus?
 
Humm so if the KIRK keys are out, how come there's no sign of a PSP package signer? Surely the whole process should be even quicker than PS3 since we already have a way of putting the files directly in to the system, or is there more to it than that?

I haven't seen any movement on this. More effort seems to be going towards finding new exploits and creating new Beta CFW (everyone, be careful when using this - it only works on hackable PSP 2000s right now) than releasing signing tools, which in my view would be more useful.

My understanding (which, admittedly is very limited) is that any homebrew which uses Kernel mode (like ISO loaders) won't work if signed and run on OFW, since it only allows signed programs to run in user mode.

Edit: There seems to be a thread about signing PSP homebrew here. They're making progress by the looks of it, and we may have a "Hello World" app soon.

Why would you think it wouldn't work? Is Xseed famous for being overly aggressive on their games not running on CFW? It does work fine for me though, no problems on 5.5 GEN-D Prom 4 or whatever was linked to earlier in this thread.

I haven't followed the "scene" for some time, but I know newer games didn't work on the GEN-B that I was on.

Managed to install to Prometheus-4, but looks like I can't install the Fatmsmod.prx from 3.71 anymore. My PSP-1004 is way faster with it. :(

Now to search for a decent-priced Ys 7.

guess i still have the superior psp, the psp 2000
ask i thought, this isnt going to get the psp anywhere, there wont be a whole slew of new homebrew content
 
Well in the meantime atleast HEN has the functionality of most everything, even if it is a little rough around the edges (crashes im looking at you).

I have a 1000,2000,3000, the first two with CFW, but I never use them because they pale to the improvements of the 3000.

I actually got the 3000 just so I wouldn't have to worry about firmware when buying stuff from PSN and newer games. But once I got used to it, I couldn't really go back. (Even though the 3000's screen is defective in a couple of ways, the lines and a slight border around the edges)

I've already got a PSP 2000. Until they can actually get CFW or a better way of running things, I still think the 2000 will be superior. Plus the 2000 can play PS1 games unlike the Go. The keys were supposed to make the Go awesome but what a bust that turned out to be.

Yep that works using the current HEN exploit, bear in mind you will need another CFW PSP in order to make the backups in the first place, though.

Hen 5.03 could do everything CFW did, and it could be run on PSPs that have a half decent screen unlike the 1k/2k. With a bit of time, 6+ Hen will get there too (it pretty much only lacks a working Popsloader at this point).

Last I heard, compatibility even on PSP stuff was hit and miss on the Go. Is that no longer the case?

Homebrew or other stuff? The stuff I was using on 3k runs fine (a lot of it has been updated for 6.2 already).
If you mean ISO loaders - those have only been out for 3 weeks or so - so I'd give it time (though my games seem to work fine). For me it's been a step up, as a lot of PSN titles refuse to work on any of the 5.03/5.50 CFWs (like Gravity Crash, for example).
 
So no OFW HB eh ?
I tried 6.31 HEN just to see if it worked well, but I guess I won't be trying anything else. I'm keeping OFW.
