PSP Custom Firmware Thread

I'm very close to now getting a Go. I have a existing BBS save as well from a pal copy, if i rip it to a go will it work?

Can i use HEN on my psp 2k to rip UMDs or do i need to install CFW to do that?

How is the HEN's in terms of PSone stuff?

I haven't done anything with PSONE, I soft modded mine strictly to play psp games I couldn't otherwise play on the go. I prefer playing my psp go connected to my tv and sync'd with the ds3 controller.

The only games I've ripped so far have been crisis core, star ocean (been waiting forever and a day to play those games) and birth by sleep. All the games run perfectly and the BBS in-game install worked too.

I don't have the HEN signed code on my psp go. I have to run a save game exploit to get the iso loader to boot, but I think (correct me if I'm wrong) that the signed code just makes it so you don't have to load the save game exploit. I haven't tried the signed HEN yet because the save game exploit is working fine for me and takes all of 5 minutes to do.

edit-
sorry, I misread your BBS question.

The save should work just fine. Just copy the BBS save folder it to your SAVE folder on the psp memory stick/go hdd. I've done it tons of times with other games, never had any problems.

I am so tempted to buy a PSPGo, but my senses got to me and I think I should be OK with a PSP Slim. I'll just save that money for a 3DS or PSP2.

You don't have to use Patapon to do it. Just install the HEN eboot as a game, run it on OFW, and bam, HEN is active.

Got it. so when you turn off psp, you will have to run the HEN eboot again?

Guess it's time to upgrade my psp-3000 to HEN now.

Precisely. Remember this is for Firmware 6.35.

I haven't found out how to run ISOs yet (do I need some sort of ISO loader?), but I've got ScummVM working. The Curse of Monkey Island looks splendid on my Go.

Yes, you need iso loader. Not sure what it is called though

So theres no point to have 6.20 anymore? I remember the unsigned 6.35 HEN had some problems that made the 6.20 HEN better. I'm assuming the signed 6.35 HEN still has those problems?

currently i'd stay on 6.20. 6.35 doesn't have the VSH menu (so no overclocking) and less stuff works on it currently.

i'm sure soon that won't be the case anymore though.

how is curse running? i haven't tried it on my GO yet. was a tiny bit slow on the PSP 2000 when i had one of those.

Thanks.

And Curse is running fine. ScummVM has come a long way since I last used it back in 2006 on my PSP 1000.

Edit: Prometheus ISO Loader runs perfectly. Just booted my Metal Gear AC!D 2 rip on my PSP Go without any trouble. Thanks again!

For those of us who don't speak squiggle, how do you download it from the linked page?

Assuming your computer displays Chinese characters, you want to click the link that says 联通1下载 (it's next to the little icon of the green arrow pointing downwards), about two thirds of the way down the page.

Quite frankly I never understood the point of upgrading CFW? What's the point? Why fix it if it works the first time?

CFW still only works up to the version it has modified, ie: 5.50 Prometheus will not run games that require 5.51+ and will not work with PSN once 5.51+ firmware is out. HEN is nice but people do want to run recent retail products.

Signed 6.35 HEN is a pretty big deal. Now the question is what they had to do to make this happen; is this something other 'brewers can use (ie: for Prometheus, which would cut out another middleman) or for users (signing your own games, which cuts out all of the middlemen, but is also the worst case scenario for Sony)?

Holy balls... so a couple of questions:

1. If I buy a new PSP GO, is there any chance it comes with a firmware that can't run HEN? Does such a firmware even exist?

2. Does the "10 free games with a new PSP GO" offer really expire on Jan 31? They won't be extending it?

3. Related to the above, If I get the 10 free games, do I have to upgrade the PSP to the latest firmware in order to register the machine and get them? If yes, will this make my PSP unable to run HEN?

Question about game saves: I've got MHFU and MGSPW saves from a PSP I owned previously, these won't work if transferred to a new system? :|

As crazymoogle stated, newer games don't work with older firmwares (unless they've been patched, but that requires them to be converted to ISO).

Also, you don't get the newer playstation emulator, so some games (like FF8) don't work on CFW very well (not that it works on OFW either).

Just bought a psp go for 130 euros.
I hope all this ps3 hack story makes everything more simple in the next days!

I got it for the emus basically

1. 6.35 is the latest OFW firmware release and it would probably come with an old firmware anyway. "New" PSP GOs are still ones that were made months ago and are sitting in stores/warehouses.

2. As of today, they haven't said they'll extend again.

3. You will need the latest OFW to connect to the store but as I said, the latest OFW is 6.35 so it will be fine. Pretty sure the keys and whatnot now available mean FW versions won't be a limiting factor in the future anyway.

Oh my fuck, this is happening.

Gonna get me a PSP go pronto.

Now, if there was only a way to get at the PSP down to the metal again - I'd love to see these emulators updated and written with the full potential of the PSP in mind. I'd like an updated PS1 emulator again too. I can use my PSP 1K to rip my UMDs, so I've no issues with games...but that big brick ran perfect emulators too <3

Thanks (to both) for the enlightenment.

Can't you just transfer your save file between PSP's?

Save game corruption between different firmwares. Sometimes it just happens. There was a fix for older CFW, but they dont fix anything on this.

where? I'm trying to find a cheap one here in Sweden but I can't find it for less than 1500 kr (~150€)

Try the signed HEN 6.35, it shows up. Tries to load. Blank screen and nothing after, tried retransfering it.

I've tried the eboot in a /Game/HEN folder as well as /Game root. No Luck. Not quite sure whats been going on. Tried different mem sticks and formatting too. Nothing.

Guess i can wait a few days for updates on the scene, but this seems to be something that should work now but doesnt, oh well

Are you on OFW 6.35?

It's working for me. I have mine in PSP/GAME/635PROHEN/EBOOT.PBP

just an addendum to 3, if you use the PSNlover plugin on OFW 6.2 with Hen B you can get in the store just fine, just no playing games online. 6.2 Hen C is meant to fix that though.

at the moment i'd recommend sticking with 6.2 anyways.

I was on 6.2 with used pspgo and was able to get the 3 free games from NA. All I did was link it to PS3 and transfer over some games/minis. Could never get online since I was on hen and always said maintenance. But maybe EU version of collecting the games is different?

I don't own a PS3 so I can't do it like that.

How long was it before they showed up? That was one of the first things I did with my go, but I have yet to see anything.

It takes quite a while before it returns to the XMB. Doesn't the PSP access the memory stick during the blank screen? Which is indicated by the flashing orange light.

Umm like a week I think. I randomly saw it in my email box. Wasnt expecting it since it was a used PSPgo.

Well, if HEN is signed... does this mean someone can update the firmware like GeoHot did on the PS3 to enable package signing/modified OFW? :D? :D? :D? :D? :D? D:?

I want my CWCheat, which doesn't work on HEN + I don't really want to have to redo HEN/lose recovery access just to get an updated PSXP emulator. :|

i've been out of the loop since the dark alex days, is there any sort of noob source for getting up to date on the psp cfw scene?

My PSP 2000 was turning off when I tried to load this signed 6.35 HEN. I read somewhere that turning of the UMD Cache could help. I turned it off and it works now. FYI.

I wonder how hard it would be to edit a PSP firmware to add HEN support natively.

Can PSP firmware eboots be signed like a PS3 firmware eboot can?

I have a psp go with official firmware at 6.30... Do they have the signed HEN thing for my psp? How do I go about it? (Thanks in advance... Having alot of problems finding info online...)

I have a PSP 2000 with 5.50 GEN-D3 CFW, has there been any new CFW's or developments for my system?

I really want to be able to sign into PSN on my PSP and I would update to an official FW but I don't want to lose my over-clocking ability.

Nope, this signed HEN is pretty much the same as before and still uses a kernel exploit. The difference is that instead of running the exploit from the Mina Sukkiri demo you're now launching it from a signed custom app.

You need to update to 6.35 to use the "PRO" HEN. I recommend reading http://www.wololo.net/wagic.
