There are no words to explain how immersive VR is. You just have to try it. Next year is going to be absolutely massive for gaming.
the london pub in vr worlds blew my mind. shit looked so real that tricked my brain i could smell it it. honestly. and it was that day i knew i want the next gen VR.

This part isn't accurate; AirLink and Virtual Desktop give a very high fidelity, extremely low latency experience when connecting a Q2 to a PC (granted, your router and the headset need to be in the same room, but that's usually the case). I personally know a lot of Q2 users who are PC gamers, and none of them used the wired option once they tried the wireless one and saw how well it works.
You misinterpreted what I said. Meta isn't gong to be pushing VR gaming forward. They'll be concentrating on the metaverse and vr experiences. The fact that Quest 2 can connect to PC is great, but irrelevant to that point.

As for the wire, of course if you have the option to not use it you would.

Who said they were obligated? Not I. You're literally saying the same thing I said.

That was premise of the quote chain you responded to. People took issue with the fact I said Valve shouldn't port Alyx as long as Sony is paying Capcom to keep all the RE VR's off Steam.

But that would not be the reason why Valve would do that. The reason would be that Valve either has no interest, or no deal was ever proposed.

You miss the point where these VR modes would not exist, if Sony (or now Meta) did not offer them money to make them, and more than likely send staff to help develop for their shiny new toy. They are not "paying them to keep it off," they are literally funding that mode of the game for their respected devices.

I play the VR sat down and wired, have down since the ORDK2. Jumping around and flailing my arms doesn't add much more to the experience. The immersion from the headset is better than a flat screen.
Yeah, I play standing up in a small area. Sometimes i'll play in the garage in a huge play space, sometimes I play sitting down, sometimes I play in my bed. I think it's silly to say VR can only be played one way. It will never have mass adoption if the only way you can play is standing up.

Agree. I have Quest 2 for 1.5 years and never ever played standing up. It's very good that no game forcing me play ether way.

I think there are a couple of competitive shooting games that force you to stand up. I think both Contractors and Onward force you to stand since you can't crouch with a button. Most games have great sitting options though or just allow you to adjust your height and have a crouch button. Resident evil 4 in particular has a great sitting option that has a floating circle around you to grab your weapons. I was able to play that game in bed.

I was bale to play that game in bed.

I was looking at vr chat for about a week. Not playing it... even if I had a pc headset, i dont got that kinda time.

But I saw a video about how people SLEEP in there. With their headsets on! I am morbidly fascinated by this and kind of want to try.

I didn't know that was a thing... Vr headsets are definitely not comfortable enough to sleep with.

You should take a look. A bunch of little anime people all just snoozing in a dark room is paradoxically one of the most hardcore things ive ever seen in gaming.

I think Superhot almost forces you to move.
I'm primarily a "sim" player and it's perfect genre for VR. Just can't stop playing Ultrawings 1/2 - it's my new all time favorite VR game that I didn't know exists. Gran Turismo 7 will be the same. Simply can't wait!

I said they shouldn't for that reason, not why they would or wouldn't. From the Capcom hack and official advertisements surrounding RE7's release, we know Sony paid $5 million for 12 months exclusivity. They clearly re-upped that agreement in perpetuity when they realized it was their only system seller and the only "AAA" VR game on the horizon for damn near half a decade. VR was THE shit during the height of 7's development, so it's very likely Capcom was at the very least experimenting with the mode long before Sony got involved, nevermind paid them $5 million dollars.

Or, Capcom was like "hey Sony, check this shit out for your new device... intere$ted?"

Because that happens far more often than not.

Looks pretty nice, only the controlles seem bit weird, they should have some kind of hand straps in them, so no need to grip all the time. But maybe it is easier than it looks

I got EPIC nausea from psvr 1 that lasted literally for over a week in a minor weird feeling.

So I hope that vr2 is more user friendly for us brain-retards that cant handle the VR, or it is possible to get used to it.

You get used to it but that's a pretty bad case you got there.

One thing that can help a ton is playing without the light shroud. You can't do that on most sets but on psvr2 it works because the shroud does nothing to actually support it.

I for one am very excited. I love my Quest but I sorely miss the graphical fidelity. PSVR2 seems a big step in that direction. Horizon footage looks insane!

Report me if I continue to console war
It's a really efficient and cool running machine where the performance shocks "tech professionals" on the internets who couldn't think outside the box.
Im talking about its shape and needing a stand. Cerny did a bang up job with the silicon and architectural design.

It grew on me, but I also barely look at it. Had to get the DE though for symmetry, so there's that.
Im hoping the inevitable slim version just does away with the stand and is smaller and still have reasonable acoustic levels).
I do fear the slim may have a 1tb SSD and sony may charge a bit more for it.

but I want an honest to goodness game like Skyrim that is built specifically for VR. Like a 100+ hour adventure. This is the shit I was dreaming of as a kid in the 80s and we are so close to it.
You and me both, brother. Kings field remastered in VR or like you say a proper old school adventure of looting, dungeon crawling, puzzle solving and town interacting would be the absolute tits.

I'm hoping PSVR2 is the VR headset that reaches the mainstream, just so we have a better chance of the adventure game. As it stands, Microsoft own most of the best RPG houses and Microsoft don't seem too fussed about VR at the moment.

I couldn’t agree more. This is an area where I’ll miss Bethesda, in making a PSVR2 game. We can only hope another developer steps up to the plate, or MS get involved.

I'm hoping that if PSVR2 knocks it out of the park, Microsoft will Jump In (pun intended) in ~2025, just in time for TES 6 and Fallout 5 VR game. Or failing that, Sony steps up to the plate and makes a good adventure RPG in VR.

Both are highly unlikely

I'm super pumped about the haptics on the controllers for PSVR2. Imagine holding a shield in your left hand and each time its hit you get some kind of physical reaction, or the illusion of weight when holding it plus a sword, etc. I'm trying not to get too hyped because I know that VR could so easily be a flash in the pan, like 3D TV, but man alive if this shit goes mainstream and we get those real honest experiences, I am sold 1000x over.

My hope for MS was that they would at least allow 3rd party VR units but right now it appears that Sony will be the only game in town for high fidelity VR in the console space.

VR is the next step, be it now or in 5 years, it's the next step. It took about 10 years for 3D games to find their feet and VR is approaching the 8 year old mark (this time around), so fingers crossed we start seeing the Gears of War 1 and Mass effects of 3d adventure games.
