My account is now officially £529 lighter. Has anybody ordered anything direct from Sony before? Should I expect to receive it on 22/02, or am I being naive? 😂
You should receive it on launch day , my edge was a day late but I think they charged my account a day later than everyone else.

Interestingly I haven’t been charged yet for my headset.

When did you pre order and when was the money taken? My friends came out around midnight!

Is there a media player coming? With sbs support? A browser? I’m hoping for deovr but probly no :(

I’d love to have plex on this baby (with 3d)… I wouldn’t need my tv anymore.
The old one supported it, but they ended up forcing you to have a subscription for it to work after a couple of years

It needs 10-15 killer apps - must play games that can absorb you for 15 plus hours and make you want to come back to replay. I don't think it has any yet. ..and the form needs to advance to allow more freedom and fewer or softer linear handrails.

I'm aiming for a PSVR2 purchase in a couple of years once the exclusive killer apps are there in sufficient volume.
Yeah I’m kinda in the same boat.
I hope they unlock it for PC, that would get me to jump in faster.

I think I pre-ordered early December and the money was taken today. They did email me a week or so ago to confirm they would collect the cash from 17/02 onwards, so they are true to their word in that respect.

Yeah I'm gonna stop you right there. I said it was a non-starter for me. I don't need a pseudo-economics lecture about the profit woes of a multibillion dollar multinational corporation. I have no idea, clue or care about the "PC VR market" - I simply am not interested in something, as good as it is, that is only for use on a console that is getting less and less use now that I have a decent PC rig.
Is your rig really that decent if it doesn't have top of the line VR for under $1500?

Some peeps are struggling to pay their rent and their bills right now and a lot have lost their jobs due to the current economic crisis, don't be tone deaf on millions of people in western countries that can't afford to heat their house. It's a tough time to launch any piece of tech, but the psvr2 at £560 with horizon in the U.K. is a no to for 99% of the population right now. PSVR was expensive on launch but it was nowhere near the unpalatable price psvr2 is right now, the preorder numbers are a crap fest and they reduced production quotas by half for the year. I cancelled my preorder a few weeks after being "invited" to preorder in the 1st wave because it's not going to sell and much as I love the latest tech gadget I'm actually PLAYING a lot more of my games for the first time in decades and still have quite a backlog of games from the original PSVR if I'm honest, I stretch my wallet here and there for a new game around launch (hogwarts most recently) right now the balance proposition of buying a whole new eco system of games for the headset is too big an investment. I'm happy for those that can afford it but this isn't comparable to any gaming console launch either as both ps5 and series x pushed the limits there and their launch price was a good deal less than this headset
It's a shame the Microsoft / oculus deal that was in play at one point never came to fruition as allowing another manufacturers headset to work with Xbox would have made the market more competitive and also encouraged developers to expand the software selection.
I'm not quite in the vr is doomed category yet, but one of these companies needs to launch a headset at a consumer friendly point.
Apple could still jump in with their headset and it will be huge no doubt when it arrives and could reignite the market, I think we are in the same space that pc vr was when rift and Vive launched, expensive tech new to market that needs to be cheaper for mass adoption
Good luck to Sony, but the actual 1st party software support they gave PSVR when you look at it was probably less than they put into Vita ..
And then some of us have plenty of money in the bank paying bills with ease. Sure nkt everyone can afford this, but hopefully 'enough' can.

That's absolutely true but... so? That's Sony's problem and obviously they have taken that into account. For those who want high end VR and don't want to spend three times more on PC VR, PSVR2 will be a source of delight for several years to come. Are you concerned that if it will not make enough success they will not make PSVR3? Well, it's possible. Should they do not even try, then? Would be better not even having it now?
That doesn't make any sense. Reality is that the tech is here, now, and we will enjoy it much more than the VR that we already experienced, and probably for much more time (if PSVR1 is still receiving games now, with its old and cluncky tech, and with all the difficulties linked to its limited controls, you can easily imagine how much easier will be for developers to develop proper PSVR2 versions of their games).
If it does not sell well Sony will abandon it like they did with their failed handhelds. Also it will not get much 3rd party support if the install base is low. But at the end of the day we just have to wait and see how this plays out. I agree that at least Sony is trying to go all out with the tech and made this a better all around headset than the PS VR1.

Lol wut? Are you literally playing in a completely different room?

LOL!!! No same room. My PS5 is in my theater room. So the PS5 is in a server rack in the back of the room. It's only 6 feet away from where I sit, but I want to be able to move more than 2 steps before the cord runs out length. If I could get 6 more feet it'll be perfect. But even 3 more feet would be good.

I was hoping the standard cable was going to be 20 feet\6.6 meters.

Sony needs to keep working with 3rd parties to get full games working in VR like GT7, RE8, and No Mans Sky. This way those devs can spend a million dollars to implement VR into their game and not feel terrible if the install base is under 5 million headsets.

But this is a HUGE reason as to why I want PCVR to start doing better also. This install base needs to grow.

With over 100 PSVR2 games in development.... I think they've got that covered...

To me this only makes sense if it somehow becomes compatible with PC's.

Spending that money to be locked into such a small ecosystem is just not worth it, though the tech seems really really good and the price for the quality of the hardware seems more then fine. But my experience with VR was that its fun for a while and then you drop of if there is nothing new coming out, since a lot of VR experiences are a bit on the short side for good reason.

I might rent this for a month or two and get what I need. Again, on PC this would be a different story, I trust developers to support that platform for a longer time and I am not just limited to games. There is all kind of cool tools for VR that simply aren't accessible on the PS ecosystem (and I know most of you think that I am talking about porn, but never mind that).

Quest is a terrible pcvr. Even wired it’s still sending compressed video. It looks terrible. Try playing dirt in vr or any darker game.
It’s low hz, compressed, heavy as fuck, clunky with oculus software and steam vr combined. And it’s lcd.
Even rift S was much better for pc.

Big disagree. I've owned both as you know. Sold my Rift S maybe a year ago.

Anybody with a brain should be able to look at the psvr1 controllers and psvr2 controllers and instantly understand the price difference. That's not even considering the new headset is a 2 full generations ahead of the psvr1.

We have videos showing what's inside the headset and controllers, soon some media site or someone working in that area will have a BoM estimate and we'll know if it's expensive or not.

I'm shocked we don't have a BOM already lol. That tear down was perfect!

The bolded is such a weird request to me. Like what if they have 12 must have games that last on average 8-10 hours? How is that not good enough?

It was just an approximation ...8-10 maybe enough for VR. Issue though is that whether we like it or not VR competes against traditional games. So VR experiences have to be able to pull people away from Elden Ring and other deep open worlds you can get lost in for weeks without end. If VR games are too short, too ergonomically displeasing and not very repayable then they won't.

False and false

1. Sony didn’t abandon PSVR1, and PSVR2 can be both profitable and have low sales volumes. You don’t need 20M+ sales to be successful for an emergent market

2. Third party VR devs know you must support the vast majority of niche VR platforms, of which PSVR2 will be near the top. It is not difficult to port to PSVR2

There were like 2 million people that played RE7 in VR(some surely already owned it). Alyx sold over 2 million with very limited install base. Superhot VR outsold the non VR versions. The software sales can excel if the title is good.

Someone mentioned that yiu can get a 2 meters extension. But he said bigger than that didn't work. But bare in mind different cables and sorts. So by launch you'll get your answer

Baby steps. We've already seen that VR is not going to explode all at once in to a mass market thing. The tech is good enough now but as everyone notes, the software pipeline projection is shaky.

Right now there is basically just alyx. On the 22nd there will be Alyx, resident evil, and gt7, tripling the VR aaa must haves. We're getting two more Alyx's. That's a great step after going almost 3 years without another Alyx.

Even getting ONE more Alyx a year is a vast improvement. That's still not going to be enough to make a VR break out and explode. The way forward right now is to add VR mode to existing AAA games. Who knows what the number has to be. Maybe three or four a year for things to hit critical mass and snowball. At the rate we're going right now, you'll be waiting 5+ years to get your 10 aaa games.

If you're more in the crew that is going to wait for that pipeline to mature, you're in with the vast majority of people. Same people lol. This thing is going to sell probably between 5 and 10 million lifetime. VR will be an enthusiast thing for a while yet.

The bottom line is you're right. It's going to take a bunch of those games for this to make VR attractive to a bigger audience that is more careful with their money.

People whose set shipped: when did you order and where are you located?

I pre-ordered this. Never touched vr before, so I hope I didn't make a mistake. :)

Payment has been taken but not yet shipped. I’m in the UK and I don’t think they’ll ship until Monday at the earliest.

If you’ve never played VR, you’re in for a treat. I thought Quest was amazing when I first played that, this will likely blow you away.

I ordered it the day it was available on the direct via invite only. So middle of November.

My card was charged yesterday and today I got the email that it shipped.

Midwest US (Illinois) with delivery estimate of Feb 22nd via UPS.
