Everybody is making good points; especially Eznark about dumping it. I would always take getting reset over a clusterfuck.
And to Bob's point about pushing it up, yes he is right, and here are two situations when a defenseman should take it up:
1)if you see the forwards are too crowded and you have a clear opening lane in (in this case, that forward will need to act as a temporary D to make up for this)
2) if you ever see its too crowded, dump it to the side that has the least people
and in general on offense, the wingers need to make a triangle. have one person behind the net or on the boards, one person on the wing, one by the net. this is so we can cycle around, move the defense, and get a clear shot. or if there's a loose puck our chances of getting it are increased because we spaced the ice and our team covers more ground. I think we often have too many people waiting for passes by the net so that leaves boards/other sides of the ice ope
