With all these Alan Wake references, they'd better have clearance to make a sequel. I can't fucking take it if they don't.

It's not a range weapon. That's what the Assault Rifle is for, right? Also, throw a time stop grenade, then fill with lead.

No I get that. I just found it amusing that the actual hit detection animations and bullet impact had not been amended to reflect the lack of impact or damage.

I'd be surprised if the next entry into the Alan Wake series was not already in full-blown production/development and released within the next 18 months.

Just started the game...ermm why does everything look like a badly tracked VHS tape? Is this fuzzyness a design choice? It looks awful?

I don't really want to post the gif a third time.

Grain. Breathe it, embrace it. This is a cinematic game after all.

With all these references to Wake you'd sure expect that, but on the other hand maybe this is just Remedy showing how fond they still are about Wake. For all we know they haven't yet made a deal with MS for another AW.

Oh OK. Makes sense now.

They could pop out an Alan Wake game quickly if they don't make a lot of changes to the core gameplay and release it in episodes. That's what I want.

I don't think Remedy could push out a game in that timeframe, but I hope you're right about them working on it. Phil Spencer greenlighted Halo Wars 2, after all.

Hold on, you can always do this? Because the game never explained this to me at all.

Also isn't there supposed to be a way to sprint?

Oh hold on. I don't have time dash yet.

Yeah you get Time Dash in Act 3 which is necessary to perform the sprint you are talking about and this is also when you can do melee takedowns with B sprinting towards an enemy with Time Dash.

Could you explain this any further ?
It's probably a case of low accuracy lighting at a distance or sometimes the game can get confused regarding whether you should be lit by the sunlight or the interior light whether if you are too close to a wall inside a building.

I will make a picture in the next hour.
I have never seen something like this in a game lol.

Edit: Ok damn, looks like i had a bug my whole first playthrough. Light sources shining through walls and characters all the time. Even far away lights, which you do not even see usually, because they are far away in the background. Crazy :) Started my second playthrough on hard now, and the bug is gone.

Aiming feels completely off. It's not input lag like Rise of the Tomb Raider. It's probably a deadzone issue as the main problem is fine aiming. Tried tweaking it with my Elite Controller, but no dice. I'll try again later and try to alleviate the problem as best as possible.

Sorry, I've only seen screenshots and some GIFs, what is this TV show business you speak if you don't mind elaborating hah?

It just boils down to the fact that I truly don't care about stories and 'woooaahhh' shit in games, I just want to actually play my videogames. If this game provides that, I'm all in because it looks killer in action.

THanks for the impressions.

This is a narrative heavy game with the narrative affecting the flow and amount of gameplay. I don't know if you will like it

I have to say, there are a lot of little hidden things that can be easily missed or people being unaware of. Aside from the collectibles, which the menu screens tells you how you are doing there are a lot of extra dialog that can be easily missed. This is some non-spoiler stuff, but there are some things even in Act 1 that walking up to windows etc. causes your character to say things that add to the Story. For example, there is a security guard that you come across early in the game and you can talk with him and if you stand in front of him an additional "X" prompt to engage in conversation. Later in the same act, you are following "someone" and most people would just continue to follow, but there was a window that I had previously just walked pass (I had replayed the first Act), this time I walked up to the window just out of curiosity and low and behold my character started talking about stuff and the guard guy shows up, there is also some things that happen that I would of normally would have not scene.

In another part of the beginning of the game, which again, not spoilers, is that you run into the taxi cab driver again and also the security guard again, I missed this the first time, and once again, your character had some more narrative to say when I walked up to them. There are a lot of things like that hidden in the game that go beyond collectibles.

I hope that makes some sense, if you want the most out of the game, take your times and look around "smell the flowers" to say. A co-worker completely bypassed almost all of these moments and missed some other stuff because he was rushing to get to the next act/level. Remedy seems to have put a ton of extra little content that can be easily missed and taking your time and exploring and looking at things pays off for the full experience.

Yeah as said above, you can do it before you get the Time Dash.
The game does tell you but it was just a really quick pop up. Would have been very easy to miss. It is also one of the tips during the loading screens.

I also encountered my first bug. I was fighting a specific enemy and the game for whatever reason put a pop up in the top middle of the screen telling me how to fight the enemy. After I killed the enemy the pop up never went away. So I was not getting any of the pop ups saying I got a collectible. I had to check the menu screen for my collectible progress. It stayed the entire rest of the Act and even stayed at the next act. I had to quit to the main menu. Not game breaking by any means just a slight annoyance and definitely was not supposed to happen.

Is time rush b? I'll use it to melee someone and then hold the trigger to aim at the next person and Jack just spins about or stares at the ground. Disabled aim assist.

no B is shield
LB hold time rush
LB press dodge then B for melee when close to enemies
RB press stop time, hold is that time bomb

The game looks amazing most of the time, which makes the little flaws stick out even more. In particular, texture pop-in and the that ridiculous motion blur on Jack are hard to ignore:

Constant pop-in

Move the camera fast and you get ghosting

Move it slow and you get weird artifacting

Now, you could dismiss these as intentional effects in a game full of crazy visual effects. But the latter one is present at the very beginning of the game, when Jack doesn't even have time powers yet.

So I redeemed my Alan Wake + DLC code that came with the game, but when I go to the store page it still says I need to purchase the game, which is odd. I went through download history on 360 and could download the main game from there, but no sign of the DLC? Anyone else with this issue?

I really love this game! The shooting part is average at best, but thankfully time manipulation makes it fun. The story however is awesome, I read like 70% of the collectibles and they add a lot to the game's world! I love how they estabilished the way the time machine works, how they follow the more rational time traveling rules (Novikov self-consistency principle) contrary to other medias in gaming a TV!! The characters are good, there are a few mindf*cks, a few not surprising turns, and some mysteries to explore in QB2. My first playtrough was on normal and 13hrs. I'm on my second on hard, and this far I love the impact of different decisions! I was afraid that the TV show would pull me out of the gamings immersion, but it didn't, however it wasn't as exciting for me as I thought.
For me this game is a 8.5/10
Overall I already want moaar!!

Never realised how subjective gunplay was - some saying it's average others saying it's great. I personally think it's one of the best third person shooters I've played in a while, it feels so good to shoot the guns.

Just finished Act 1. That was fucking amazing. Everything was good, the storytelling, the story, the shooting people in the face. Amazing start.
I've had no issues with the aiming and find shooting people in the face extremely rewarding. Enjoying the shit out of the gunplay in this.

The weird part of this is that so much of it is hidden compared to the intel items (which I guess is a nice bit of not handholding for the audience) but at the same time the NPCs are very vocal about continuing to talk when you run off and bugging you to hurry up. It's a bit of a weird combination.

So have they said when they're sending Alan Wake codes to people who preordered Quantum Break? I've got the American Nightmare code but still not Alan Wake.

Alright I finished my dinner and the work day is done. I'll put in a bit more time into this game now.

I looooove how relaxing the little bit of Act 1 that I've played is. I love exploring this incredibly detailed world, starting from outside the university campus, taking in the campus posters, the protest props, university architecture, drunk college students, etc...
then you go into the physics research center and it's brimming with attention to detail on every desk/shelf.

I'm enjoying myself exploring every little bit of the world so far, reading as many of the narrative collectibles that I can.

Act 5 chapter 2: How do I
get the pass code? I activate the echo with Burke and the guy, he says "let's go see Wade" and then it disappears no matter what I do.

Oh OK. Makes sense now.

Hmmmm releasing it in episodes and not like a full game like QB? That would definitely mean a much sooner release. Whatever Remedy decides to do, i'm sure it will be great. They have proven once again that they know how to make a great game. Tech wise the game looks stellar, minus of course the somewhat ugly stuff, which is unfortunete. But i think that's more due to hardware than to Remedy.

Cool! Well i'm in act 3 now, so i'll get it soon enough then. :)

That's what makes Remedy so awesome. They spend a lot of time on the smallest of details. Things that a lot of players won't even notice, i certainly know a few. I love these kind of details and i'll definitely be on the lookout for them even more. I did just now finished act 1-1 again for collectibles but i did not have the guard showing up again. Where exactly does this happen?

Really cool touches from the developer. At the end of act 2...not really a spoiler, but i'll tag it anyway....
When you get into the swimming pool building. If you examine all items, including the video from Will, before opening the door for Beth and Nick, the dialogue will be different. You can really see that Remedy took these things into account. Cool stuff.

Or you know in most third person games when the character is talking you don't really see realistic facial expressions in real time? Most of the time you just see their mouth moving but that's it, here in QB you see realistic facial expressions. You see the eyebrows move, you see Jack smile and all that. Very nice.

Took a break and recorded an impressions cast of Act 1-3 last night. Meant to get to the remaining acts today but I kind of want to savour the experience- not to mention it is finals season here and I have 7,000 or so words and 30 minutes of footage to crank out prior to next Monday.

What I gleaned from talking for an hour about the game thus far, fairly disappointed with the licenced music, which is a huge surprise for me considering I adored everything licenced they've worked with prior.

There's a reference to Alan Wake approximately every 6 minutes.

Wouldn't have it any other way!

Jeez, only reason I preordered was for Alan Wake and the Win 10 version of QB, neither of which I have received. Bravo, Microsoft - you got my $60 this time, but never again will I preorder from your digital store.

I found that screenplay collectible today but i didn;t read it, was a bit too long for my liking at the time. I read all the things, but not when they are this long. But apparently it's pretty damn awesome.

IGN even has a piece on it and they actually act out the screenplay at 29:20

Finally started and OMG that first television set
in the campus. We better get Alan Wake 2 after that, wow!

Chills man, chills after seeing that.
