It's about Darth Sidious. He remains largely mysterious since the movies concentrate of the Skywalkers. He seems to be from Naboo if the Phantom Menace is anything to go by, but where does he get his dark forces powers from (and training)? Is he self-taught or did something from the past Siths somehow get all the way to him?

Just wondering.

No one 'officially' knows yet. Lucas forbid the novelists to write anything regarding the past histories of the characters from the OT that would conflict with the PT. (Although some blatantly ignored his warnings, and the results were disastrous).

The most basic explanation would of course stem from Sidious stumbeling upon ancient teachings of Exar Kun, or something of that nature.

All the Expanded Universe written (or drawn) before the release of the prequels (chronologically within the story) are all thrown into apocryphal, alternate universes, not to mention plenty of material after the prequels.
