I think this is a problem with the overall religion. They don't teach that they were not White and all their art features White people. I had no clue and I went to church twice weekly until High School and didn't learn that until then. If the Christian leadership in America made it a point to teach that Jesus and others in the Bible were middle eastern, it would go at least some way into stemming racism. Of course they won't though. If you can believe all that is in the bible you can believe that God and Jesus were White.

As a Catholic, I'd expect to want to give the school the benefit of the doubt for allowing this essay to be posted.

Just to buck the trend, try using it in casual conversation:
"I'm not racist, but I had real trouble finding parking today."
"I'm not racist, but I'm going to go grab a Snickers."
"I'm not racist, but if you think about it Mozart was the Justin Bieber of his time."
I don't think this is the takeaway. 30 years ago no one would have given a shit about this essay and the school wouldn't have sent out apologies about it.

No, because you never need to specify that you're not racist in any regular conversation that has nothing to do with race.
"I'm not racist but can you hand me a tissue?"
And the constant self-affirmation that racist folks believe themselves to be not racist perfectly exemplifies the idea that the worst thing you can accuse a white person of is of being racist. Even if they talk, walk, behave, and have the life outlook of a bona-fide racist, if you call them racist you've just offended them in the worst way possible.
Same with "Think about it though.." but with statements that actually don't have logical thought.

It will strengthen her racism because her parents will defend her. She's got no real chance here and its her parents to blame.
Eventually, she'll be old enough to take the blame, but Nothing of what she says is anything other than dumb arguments that lack empathy or an understanding of black history. She thinks shes being smart or even critical of what she considers bad people in society but shes not understanding the fault of what she says. Partly because shes too young yet too exposed to heavy racism
Partly, I think BHM needs to be taught differently. Its not enough to celebrate history or say "america WAS racist"
But its an incredibly heavy topic and mentally, kids arent all there

Yeah you're right. High School Black History is pretty shit. It doesn't cover anything besides the basics and need at least something more so this shit doesn't happen.
The real problem is people who think "Well slavery ended so everything's cool now! We did enough."
