Agreed. Was literally mindblown by the quick look. This is definitely id's best work in terms of art direction, I'm so fucking proud to see them try out huge environmental areas in this game.SalsaShark said:

So vt_singleStep is set to -1 by default, on 1 or 0 it seems to like kill the texture streaming. Thing is that means anything that is currently LOD down out of view stays that way, and if you load a save game it crashes.
I probably won't mess with it much more tonight since I'm tired but the entire vt_ subsection in cvars seems to be megatexture cvars.

Fucking RAGE, indeed. I'm not going to let this ruin my night anymore. I'll go read a book before bed instead of dealing with this bullshit texture pop-in, muddy textures, poor performance, and random crashing. The game seems like fun, but id certainly didn't give enough of a fuck to ensure I could enjoy it. I'm most angry that I actually went against my normal policy of generally never paying over $50 for a PC game, because, like Blizzard, I was willing to make an exception for id.

The game was somewhat playable and sounds good. Sadly, I have that Metal Gear Solid 2 style glitching going on when I walk about and the occasional slide show screen tearing. Fortunately, I did not experience the N64 styled texture load issues yet one time I was autostraffing during a gunfight. Thankfully, I think the solid state drive and the 8gigs of RAM helped out in making the game somewhat playable. Please AMD/iD, fix this game!

No point in paying console prices for a broken piece of software. Might as well wait for a few patches and pick the game up for a price that is discounted by $20 or more during a sale in the next few months.
It does, on the other hand, make sense to wait until they're actually patched and likely have a bigger discount on them. Why pay $60 when it'll be $30 by the time I'll be confident to play it?Demigod Mac said:

I got a little farther into the game just to see. Tons of flickering, including people that just disappear entirely at times. Texture loading in the absolute first area was the worst I've seen but after that it comes and goes. Got far enough to run directly into the green shadows mess and my framerate is still crap. So yeah, not really playable.
Yep, no v-synch allowed. Even Bethesda support recommends forcing it through the video card. I tired and couldnt get it to work. Or, maybe it is but my game can't get to 60fps anyway.kitch9 said:
