Anyone try lemon juice on their hair/body? http://www.buzzle.com/articles/benefits-of-lemon-juice-for-hair.html I stopped using shampoo and now mix in lemon juice with my conditioner. Too soon to tell any benefits but I'm sure there will be in the long run.

But adding lemon juice to a facial cleansing routine has already worked wonders for sure! Blemishes fade faster (especially the irritating red blemishes) and I get a lot more compliments on how clear my skin is and how I retain my pregnant glow even after not being pregnant and not giving birth for so long since I'm a dude.

I don't use soap :-/

Also i only use shampoo like every 3 days, i shower everyday but if i shampoo every day my hair gets flaky so i just use it once every 2-3 days. Same with soap, if i use soap my skin gets flaky and yes i have tried all that bullshit "for flaky skin" or "for dry skin" trash and it never works.

And i (according to my boyfriend) smell delicious but he's biased.

I quit using shampoo about 3 weeks ago. I do wash my hair with water every day, but no more shampoo. My hair doesn't look greasy at all now and it's much easier to handle. My hair is very thin, neither gel or wax helped me to get my hair the way I wanted. It's always been a frustrating mess. Now I don't need to use any gel at all anymore to get some volume.

Less maintaining + much better look is a win-win situation for me.

I've been doing no soap and shampoo during shower since July, no real noticeable differences other than my hair itching a lot less. I don't stink either.

yea I only use soap to wash my arm pits, balls and ass crack. But my hair or scalp is so fucking oily...the T area on my face also gets very oily by the end of the day.

Been doing the no shampoo thing for two months or so.

About a week in, my hair started to stabilize and it looks, feels and smells better than it ever had. It doesn't itch anymore and I don't have problems with dandruff either.

One day I used shampoo again and it made my hair itch terribly and look terrible for a few days. So yeah, the no shampoo thing worked well for me. Just keep in mind that when you should wash your hair with water daily and be extra vigorous in massaging it.

I did it for a couple months. Hair looked great but I got horrible dandruff. Back to shampooing for me.

I think you need to follow EVOL's advice.

so did anyone try this for a few months? How did it go? I don't like shampoo, it ruins my hair :/

I've been doing no shampoo since March (about six months + so far) and it's fantastic. It's the real deal. I keep my hair relatively short (no longer than 1.5 inches, often shorter) so that helps things I'm sure. I just wash it in warm or hot water.

I tried the no soap thing, and I didn't really like how I felt. I tried it for a month or so, my skin (on my face in particular) ended up kind of weathered-looking, for lack of a better term. I use Dove (1/4 moisturizing cream) so I was probably missing that moisturizer.

I have terrible oily dandruff and use 2 special shampoos (cost like $40) to manage it. They work great. I tried this no shampoo stuff for maybe 1 month and a half, and forget it. It felt like termites were digging in my scalp.

you mean the ground breaking advice of washing my hair with water vigorously every day? Yea I did that. Still got dandruff.

should have run a comb through you hair while showering, that might have helped. Anyway thanks for the update guys, keep it coming!

I think it varies depending on the person. I had dandruff exactly because I used shampoo, so when I stopped using it my scalp became a lot healthier.

It doesn't hurt to try, but yeah don't force it if it doesn't work out for you, especially if your hair is fine as it is. I tried the no shampoo thing as a last resort, since I was sick and tired of my hair itching and smelling by the end of the day all the time, even when I was washing it with shampoo daily.

I think it takes time, probably a month or so right?

For me my hair stopped itching around the 6th day people wouldn't notice that I stopped using shampoo. It only took me a bit over a week for my hair to completly adapt over the change.

Again, it seems to vary though. And those first few days were fucking painful, prepare yourself lol

Been doing the no soap/shampoo thing over a year now. It's been awesome, never going back. I even had one woman I used to sleep with ask me what I did to my skin because it's the best she's felt.

Will share my story with this since the topic was bumped. Before I cut it I had long wavy/semi curly hair. Using shampoo always made it a nightmare to manage and looked bad/frizzy so I tried this out to see what it would do without shampoo. I googled around beforehand and read a lot of people have been doing it in order to preserve hair and that it wasn't a 'dirty' thing. I had 3 inches hair when I started and 9 inches when I cut it, so I went about a year with no shampoo and for me it was way better than with.

The first month was awful though, the first 2 weeks are really REALLY oily, it looks and feels gross even if you wash your hair every day it's still going to be like that while the body regulates. By the 3rd week it started to feel better and then 4th it looks/feels normal. It wasn't frizzy but it wasn't gross oily either it was just right.

I've heard its different for some people but that's my take. But you have to wash your hair every day to keep it regulated, at least I did. If I went one day without washing it within the next 12-24 hours it would feel gross and very oily. And make sure water gets to the scalp and you massage enough, no quick rinses otherwise you'll get dandruff.

I have short hair, I'm black just to make this understandable. My hair, basically just has a stale faint hair smell, there's basically no real smell to it, there is also no visible dandruff and I rarely scratch my head anymore. It rarely itches, it lacks dandruff and moisturization but it seems to be taking care of itself.

I also noticed that I'm rarely ashy now. Whenever I use to take showers using soap, after I dried off, I would get pretty ashy, now that never happens. I do use deodorant. Everything else, hot water, vigorous massaging of hair with hot water.

Same, plus feet. I use a scrubby washcloth-thing on my face, but only with water. My hair gets a diluted vinegar rinse daily, and occasionally a dissolved-baking soda wash. No smell, no oil, no dandruff. I also use that rock Crystal deodorant.

...No soap, huh? Not sure that's a road I want to travel, but I am interested in not using shampoo for a while. My hair is usually an oily mess hours after drying. So what the hell, I've got time to kill.

Been doing the no shampoo thing for a week or so now. I don't have much hair anyway, but it's been a lot less greasy in the mornings and feels better.

I have really fine hair, its naturally silky upon exiting the shower (seriously, it freaking shines). I also get oily faster than the average person. If I don't shower my hair becomes DISGUSTING, lol. It looks bad, feels really greasy, and whatever else.

Still, this idea is interesting. Anyone with really silky hair pull this off??

I have curly hair and this just doesn't work for me. I tried it and when my body was getting used to it, my hair would stick together too much, so it looked like random ball patches around my curls. It got too oily and unmanageable. It was actually harder to deal with while not shampooing. It is already hard to do any kind of styling with to begin with.

I keep it to once or twice a week of shampooing it now. It seems to be working, at least better than every day or not at all. I was doing the no soap on the face thing, too, until I started working out hard again daily and that didn't really work anymore. I have that weird dry and oily skin (how does that even work?) and began having some horrific outbreaks. But while I wasn't soaping my face, it was both less dry and less oily.

I don't use shampoo but I cannot imagine not using soap. It makes me smell good. I suppose my skin would be less dry though

We may be related, genetically.

Okay, I'm giving this a shot. I'll try it for a month and will keep at it depending on the results. I've always had dry, flaky skin on my face so let's see how this works out.

As for the shampooing, I'm bald and shave my head so that's not an issue either way.

Been doing this since July and it's going great. I switched to using lukewarm water instead of hot for my hair, I think it's a bit better. Also I really let my hair get soaked a lot so it has ample opportunity to gain moisture.

so did anyone try this for a few months? How did it go? I don't like shampoo, it ruins my hair :/

I've been doing the no shampoo and no soap thing for over a year now, and it's worked out awesome. I do use soap when washing my hands and occasionally when I get greasy working on my car or bike, but I'd say 90% of the time it's no soap for me. As for shampoo, I have 100% stopped using it. I've battled with dry scalp and dandruff my entire life, until I stopped using shampoo that is. It took about a month for my hair to "stabilize", but today my hair is by FAR the most healthy it's ever been. Absolutely no dandruff or dry scalp at all, I mean zero. My hair is softer, and more full, and more manageable, than it has ever been. The transformation has been nothing short of amazing.

I know that everyone's first instinct is to think that I must smell bad by not using soap or shampoo, but in fact just the opposite has happened. I smell better, naturally, somehow, for not using them. My gf has noticed it, friends have noticed it and asked me what cologne I'm using that's new. Strangers have noticed it and commented how I smell good. I find it amusing when it happens, but I always keep the truth to myself for fear of the "no soap" reaction that most of society is educated to respond with.

I'll never go back to using soap and shampoo. It's worked so incredibly well for me, why the hell would I? I don't know if it's for everyone or not, but for me, it's been a huge incredible revelation.

this show is not Breaking Bad why is it not Breaking Bad? it should be Breaking Bad dammit Breaking Bad
You can just use baking soda as deodorant. No need to go all natural.

no-shampoo people, do you rinse your hair with hot, lukewarm or cold water?

I use hot water. Like really hot. So hot that I have to bend forward a little so it doesn't run down my body because it burns my torso. Ok that's a bit of an exaggeration. But yeah really hot. And I really get into the hair with my hands. You can't just stroke your hair like you would if you used shampoo. You need to be a little rough and dig into it. Well, at least I do.

Getting by without soap is one (questionable) thing, but you guys saying you smell like cologne by not using soap: come on, nobody is gonna believe that.

You might not believe it, but it is true. Maybe not like cologne, but it's a good smell, definitely not bad like most people would automatically believe. Just because you've never tried it or can't believe it yourself does not make it untrue. Most of society today has just been raised to think that you NEED soap and shampoo, and most people can't give up those beliefs. Kind of a shame really. Makes one wonder if the daily use of soap and shampoo is just some big marketing scheme...
