Sound like a good move. Rares output over the last 15 years has been awesome.
Besides SoT which was a desaster at release and Everwild, which seems to be a development catastrophe so far......they´ve not put out anything noteworthy since 2008...

edit: sorry missed the sarcasm there

He added: "In his new role, Craig will continue to focus on helping our studios deliver high-quality, differentiated game experiences that can grow into successful franchises and reach more players by investing in new IP."

Hmmm. Sea of thieves probably really helped him get this job. So is he middle management? Probably not but Matty booty is above him so I'm confused exactly what he does.

Isn't Booty head of XGS?
He's head of all studios. Bethesda and Activision are basically large independent companies and he's over all of that and XGS.

To be fair, Sea of Thieves is doing rather well. Everwild, just needs more time, it went into full-time development in 2019, even then it was in an early state. So while 5 years is a long time, I don't think it's that long especially if it is going to be similar in scale to Sea of Thieves.

At least something is changing. Even if we don't know how it will pan out, being unsure is slightly better than I felt before.

Yes, they have not put out anything noteworthy since 2008 besides, by far, their most successful game ever...
one would think that people should be capable to at least read and understand a single sentence before replying.....

Is this good or bad?
Depends on why Alan retired imo. Could be any reason

Odd for Alan to have only had the role for a year.
It's not usual to retire 1 year after a promotion. His LinkedIn message doesn't make it sound like a health issue either.

Also Booty's statement is interesting, he talks about Alan's tenure as XGS boss contributing to "critically-acclaimed titles", but there's no mention of financial performance (which tracks, of the ones I remember shipping during his tenure: Forza Motorsport was a major flop, Pentiment was a critical darling but wasn't a sales monster, and Avowed got delayed).

Rare, who is responsible for this impossible race?
Can you refund the money, wasted on the game and antidepressants?

Duncan has always been super passionate about games in the videos I have seen him in. Seems like the right guy for the job. And Sea of Thieves is awesome - one of the most unique games on the market.

One would think that people should be capable to at least realize that dismissing or downplaying their best selling game ever followed by a claim that they haven't made anything noteworthy since before that game's release contradicats the claim itself.

Sea of Thieves is the most popular game they've ever released, so their transition into a GaaS studio was very successful. We'll see how Everwild goes, though.
Like i said in my post i dont care how successful its been its shit. Also the only thing they have put out in ages.

They used to be one of the best on a par with the likes of peak Bungie and Bioware

At least he doesn’t have purple or blue hair……..seriously though, very curious to see what if anything will transpire with him at the helm.
