Rare Replay |OT| Jetpacks and Googly Eyes, Here We Come

If I'm planning on trying out Viva Pinata for the first time, do I simply skip to Trouble in Paradise? Sorry if this has been asked.

I beat both, but yes. The first is largely redundant if you have access to the second, it's just the same game with changes and added content more or less.

Anyone else tried to upload their saves the cloud? Success stories? It seems half of my sutff can't be copied but some can be moved :/

I'm on the verge of starting Perfect Dark next, but I have a question about difficulty. I was prepared to start it on Special Agent (normal mode), but I've since read a couple comments about how it's recommended that newcomers start on Agent (easy mode) to learn the ropes, as the game is based on replay value and getting better over time as you grasp and master some of the mechanics.

Is there any merit to this line of thinking? Realistically, with so many other games in the collection I want to play, it's unlikely I'll play through PD two times in a row anyway, so I'd like to just do a run through on Normal if it isn't going to be too difficult. Lack of level checkpoints scare me a heck of a lot though.

You should probably start on Agent if this is your first time playing the game. It's very different compared to modern shooters, and it can be quite hard if you don't know what you're doing. Plus, as the difficulty increases, the enemies do more damage to you, so you should probably try Agent first.

I'm digging the Jetpac challenges but the one where you have no gun is killing me. Granted I'm not usually very good at challenges like this. I just want to finish one game's challenges!

I have Perfect Dark HD, Perfect Dark Zero and Nuts and Bolts on my 360. Do the Rare Replay games share the achievements lists with those?

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this, but if you hold down the left trigger all the time while playing Jet Force Gemini with the new control scheme, it works pretty well.

Yes they do.
When you boot the chosen game via Rare Replay you'll automatically get all the stamps associated with those 360 games achievements, if you have any.

The Spooky chapter is Conker was shorter than I recall, I think I must've gotten stuck at the key part when I was younger. Up to War now and don't remember this one too much aside from the boss.

This is basically what I do, yeah. Letting go of the trigger still has the weird strafe but holding LT lets you essentially freely move the camera, though it started to hurt my hand after playing it for awhile.

Battletoads is pure evil. Can't imagine trying to beat this with no rewinds, save states, extra lives, or warps.

Really loving this collection. Even the really old games which I don't care for. It's cool to have them just for posteritys sake on how far they have come.

I've been playing Atic Atac far too much, I can complete it pretty much every time now. Also, had to laugh at that alternate ending.

I'm enjoying this collection so much. Going back in time to re-play old favorites and also discover games that I missed the first time around has been a blast.

I purchased this today and played a bit of battletoads and a lot of perfect dark, although the aiming is a bit dodgy it holds up pretty well. I see it says 2010 at the bottom when you launch and the XBLA branding so its not a true n64 port is it? (Not that it matters, just curious)

Got into some Banjo today. Just as good as I remember it. I'm still kinda sad we've not had another proper Banjo game. Nuts and Bolts may be a good game, but it's not the same. It's just making me more hyped for Yooka-Laylee.

So a little, shitty verdict with my thoughts on each game.

Jetpac - Still great
The rest of the Spectrum games - bad to terrible. There are cool ideas and bits in each one but they are let down by weird controls, awkward perspectives or stupid ideas (yeah, make a platformer where you're a ping pong ball...)
Slalom - Good fun.
RC Pro AM - Great game
Cobra Triangle - GREAT GAME. How did I never hear of this until this collection!?
Snake Rattle and Roll - SO BAD. SO SO BAD
Digger T Rock - Interesting game. I like it.
Solar Jetman - IT's ok. cool how there are so many different gameplay bits in it.
Battletoads - Eh, it's not bad. Not great though.
RC Pro Am 2 - I don't like it as much as the first. There is less of a viewing distance so it's harder to see upcoming turns and the like.
Battletoads Arcade - Eh, another side scroller beat 'em up designed to suck money from your soul.
KI Gold - I actually quite like this. I really like playing Spinal (when he was the free character for a bit in KI on Xbone I liked using him). Actually making me think about throwing down some money on Spinal so I guess it's done it's job here.
Blast corps - Still great.
Banjo Kazooie - STILL GREAT!!!
Jet Force Gemini - I remember really liking this as a kid and finishing it. The controls are hella weird, even with the "modern" setting. Not sure if IO'll actually finish this.
Perfect Dark - Never played on the N64 but I like this 360 version. Looks nice, controls well. It's fun.
Banjo-Tooie - Didn't actually play this on the N64 but I'm glad I can now.
Conker - Not really played this yet. I hope I like it as I've always wanted to play it.
Grabbed by the ghoulies - It's a good game! It's always been a good game! Never understood why so many hated it back on the Xbox.
Perfect Dark Zero - Not touched this yet. Not looking forward to it.
Kameo - Barely played but looking forward to digging deeper.
Viva Pinata - Fantastic game. Shame it wouldn't let me upload and carry over my 360 save ;_;
Jetpac refuelled - It's Jetpac but a bit different. I'm ok with this.
Nuts and bolts - eh, it's an ok game but not the Banjo I wanted and sadly that will forever be attached to this game in my memories.
Viva Pinata: toruble in paradise - Not played yet but it it's half as good as the first one then it's gonna be fun.

Thanks buddy! I'm three missions in on agent - I can already tell Special Agent would be overwhelming for me the first go through.

Unsure of how I feel about PD so far - the music and atmosphere are excellent, but the gunplay is a bit twitchy (even after adjusting the sensitivity settings) and there isn't always clear guidance on where to go for some of the mission objectives (I can't imagine how frustrating some of that must get on the hardest difficulty setting with all of those extra objectives.)

The music from level 3 (which kicks in at about 1:10 in this video) sounds like it could have been ripped straight out of a final Gruntilda fight in a Banjo-Kazooie game. It's awesome.

Yeah, the majority of the soundtrack was by Grant Kirkhope, so you'll find some similarities between PD and Banjo. It's almost eerie at times. :p

Nuts and bolts is so good, my kids are obsessed with it. The vehicle creator is amazing and has a shit ton of variety. There's no other game like it. I honestly wouldn't mind a sequel.

I seriously doubt there will ever be a Nuts & Bolts sequel. Unless Rare wants its headquarters bombed by fans or something. :p

I am god awful at RC pro am. Pretty much just comes down to me spamming rockets and fucking over one other person to keep them at my pace. Then hoping the other 2 hurry up and finish the race so I can get 3rd place and continue on to the next track. I guess I dont really understand how it works. I can keep rewinding to do turns perfectly, but the other cars just feel like they are waaay faster than me for some reason.

The ending to N&B sets them up perfectly to please both fans.

For anyone unaware,
LOG restores all of Banjo and Kazooie's abilities but lets Kazooie keep the wrench too.
It's the perfect way to expand on the vehicle creation but return to the varied platforming with crazy powers that the series is known for.

Same here. I suck at RC Pro Am. :( For me it's probably the fact that it's an isometric racer that hinders me the most. I don't think it's a good angle to use in racing games (though I completely understand that things were different back then).

You are factually a terrible human being. Or a Snake.
Has anyone here beaten snapshot 5 of R.C Pro Am? It seems impossible.

You have to be super good with your turning so as not to hit any walls, get the N on the very first lap as soon as you can, miss it you should just restart, try and hit the lead car with your bomb as you pass him to put him just a tad behind.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. You need to bomb the car who always win (yellow? I don't remember). I managed to beat him with like 1/10 of a second or so, heh. It's not easy, but it's definitely possible.

Yeah it's just my cornering. I can have say 7 perfect laps then I start flapping and start messing up.

I wish Rare would make it a stand-alone IP. Just give people a ton of parts, a variety of test rooms and props (stuff to knock over, carry, destroy), and let them engineer any machines and challenges they can dream up.

Could you imagine what the modding community would do with it?

I've yet to play nuts and bolts but plan to once I get rare replay. Is there anyway to play it without going in to customize vehicles? I feel like all of that would keep me from playing but if there's preset cars I can use then I'd be fine with that.

It's one of those snapshots that's hard until you figure out the gimmick.

First, there's a money bag down and to the left from your starting position, grab it so you can refill your bullets once you get to the outlaw. From there you go back where you started and head right through the building, keep going right through a second building, and then head straight up. The outlaw is right through the door, once you've beaten him you'll get more than enough cash to complete the challenge.

I misunderstood this I thought you basically had to collect 5 money bags

If you press start and scroll to one of the other screens, it gives you more information on your objectives, which may help point you in the right direction.

IIRC, you do get blueprints that can fit the challenge(s) and LOG provides a default vehicle for every challenge. However, I don't remember them being all that great. Part of the problem solving (and fun) is in modding the blue print, or creating your own solution.

Give the vehicle building a shot a few times and see if you warm up to it. I spent more time building things to just play around with than I did on the challenges.

I thought I was doing great with the cell doors on SS Anubis but I still missed 3 :/

Do you need every single Tribal in this game or no? I can't remember.

Oh man - apparently you can't cheaply get the multiplayer achievements in PD with bots (which is what I did in Conker). This sucks - not only do I not have an extra Xbone controller to boost myself, but I also don't have Live. Curse these Rare Revealed features being so compelling!

This game seems pretty short, too - according to this guide I've glanced at, I'm already about halfway through the single player campaign.

Finally received my copy in the mail from Amazon.

Unlocked my first Rare video by just sampling the first few games. Already stuck on Battletoads Stage 3.

The creator is so easy to use and you can build a vehicle quick. give it a chance and you will see the brilliance behind this game. you can build some crazy shit in a few minutes. And can test it in seconds within the garage before a challenge. There's hardly any loading and doesn't really slow down the game.

PD is fairly short but one of the key aspects is the higher difficulties REALLY impact the game, they add entirely new mission objectives which change the approach a lot.

I finally beat R.C Pro Am snapshot 5! My biggest problem was getting too nervous after finally reaching third place, and that kept messing me up.
