Ray Rice (football player) cut by Baltimore Ravens, suspended indefinitely by NFL

The NFL and Ravens are freakin gutless. The guy was already punished (albeit lightly). How can you let public outrage with zero new information lead to this? What did folks think a knockout punch would look like?

Nice precedent set here. Why shouldn't DUIs now lead to players being cut too? It's just as bad if not worse than hitting a woman IMO.

It's called covering their own asses, Both and the NFL and Ravens org saw that video....

Good. NFL should've suspended him for a year for the bs he did but at least the Ravens got rid of him. Hopefully no one picks him up.

If Ray Rice doesn't get picked up by another team - and frankly, nobody other than the Redskins would dare, he's so toxic - I wonder if he says something about both the NFL and Ravens seeing the videotape before handing down his 2-game suspension? Perhaps if they attempt to pull back his guaranteed money, etc. At that point, he's got little left to lose, right? Hooo boy

Watching Peter King trip all over himself to get back in the NFL's good graces today has been highly entertaining, btw.

Tip of the iceberg, here.

My guess is he won't come forward so that the NFL will clear him to play again next season for some other team.

He'll hire a PR firm and become a spokesman for women's issues for the next 12 months until he gets his Nike deal again and then he'll suddenly stop giving talks about the seriousness of the situation.

Where is this occurring at? I'd like to read.

If Goodell's lying he comes off as a complete con man that needs to be fired. If he's not then he comes off as incredibly incompetent that TMZ got the video before he, the head of the most valuable sports league in America, did.

Either way he looks like shit.

I'm really just interested in whether or not the NFL already saw the tape before today. Only interested because if the NFL is caught lying then Goodell is probably toast.

I would be so surprised if they didn't. The NFL organization seems like one that would want to know all.

Toasted by whom? Owners aren't gonna oust the guy who has done nothing but make them even more absurdly rich.

Please. Even if that happened no one will do a goddamned thing to Goodell. He's untouchable.

Fox Host On Alleged Ray Rice Video: Why Won't Obama Lead?

Fox News host Andrea Tantaros wasted no time during Monday's episode of "Outnumbered" directing anger at President Obama and the Democrats over a video reportedly showing NFL star Ray Rice punching his then-fiancee in an elevator.

"I wanna know, where is the President on this one?" Tantaros asked, after a brief throat-clearing about the NFL's obligation to react to the tape.

"My question is — and not to bring it back to politics but — this is a White House that seems to bring up a 'war on women' every other week. A White House that's very concerned about the NFL, concussions, etc., prescription drugs in locker rooms," she said.

Tantaros went on to demand action from Democratic National Committee Chair Debbie Wasserman-Schultz (D-FL). The host also used the chance to blast Wasserman-Schultz for recently saying that Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) has given women "the back of his hand," a remark for which the DNC chair later apologized.

"Debbie Wasserman-Schultz should come out and condemn this, and if she doesn't, she's an apologist for domestic violence," the Fox host said.

Tantaros' fellow panelists appeared to ignore her remarks about the White House and immediately returned to discussing Rice and the NFL.

The video in question, published by TMZ Monday, allegedly shows Rice striking his then-fiancee in an Atlantic City hotel elevator earlier this year.

What the fuck is wrong with these people?

I can see the 49ers picking up Ray Rice. they're scum, too.

It seems like the police would be the only people that would know for sure if he's seen it. So they'd have to step forward and confirm it. But he should be gone even if he didn't see it. The actual description of what happened in that elevator has been available for months. So he knew that she was punched and the her head bounced off a railing which left her unconscious. Did he not think that would look extremely violent?

Hey wait a minute now, Snyder is clearly crazy but he's not that crazy. Mrs. Snyder would probably be the next one with a DV charge if he even acted like he was thinking about it.

I honestly don't think that Ray Rice will ever step foot on another NFL field, even if he was still in his prime. I think sometimes when you hear about a crime it has an entirely different impact than when you actually see it with your own eyes. I'm extra mad at the Ravens/NFL front office now because I believe that they did see this video and if anything it should have immediately made them come down much harder on Rice than what they did.

Inb4 Raiders sign him.

I have a really really hard time believing that no one from the NFL saw the video. If anything, I think they didn't realize any of us would see it.

They're probably in the process now of scrubbing the internet of news stories and tweets because everything we'd heard at the time was that they saw the elevator video and somehow whatever was on it made the situation seem more benign than the dragging video.

Now that the truth is out and we see it's actually the exact opposite they have an even bigger firestorm on their hands than if they'd simply done the right thing from the start and suspended him indefinitely or banned him.

Had some good discussions with coworkers today about this incident. One of them, a female, asked if Rice would've gotten the same punishment and public outcry had he punched a man instead of a woman. I said probably not. She then asked if that isn't just another example of men viewing women as inferior, weaker beings. I was left speechless and didn't know how to respond. I mean, I never though of this as an equality issue. I've always just believed that a man should not beat a woman.

What do you guys think?

If he knocked a man out and dragged him out of an elevator, he would have went to jail.

I think CTE is the big weapon of choice for Rice here.

The media will destroy them and he could easily be sacrificed in that scenario.

That won't happen, and even if it did, NFL is not going to care unless it affects their bottom line.

They'll just say "we punished the parties responsible to the fullest extent of the NFL." Even now, people are congratulating the NFL for "doing what's necessary."

The Redskins have Alfred Morris. They have no need for Ray Rice.

Well, to be fair, TMZ pays the leakers a lot of money for things like this, something I assume the NFL will not do.

No one should take advantage of abusing someone smaller/weaker than they are but there's always been an additional stigma attached to beating the opposite sex.

If a video showed up of Serena Williams knocking out Kevin Hart I wonder what the response would be though.

The police would have seized all of the tapes and the NFL would have had zero issues getting that footage from the police in this case.

You shouldn't beat anybody, really.

I don't know if i can get on board with banning Ray Rice for life because of this if this is a case of losing his temper once and not a pattern of abuse. 8 games, 16 games sure. Everyone feels like Goodell should have suspended him for far more than just 2 games obviously.

Yea, I wonder too. Wasn't there some incident a few months ago where some girl punched Jay-Z in an elevator and was caught on tape? What ever happened with that?

What I wonder is as a society do we believe in rehabilitation and second chances? Can Ray Rice redeem himself or should his career be over for good?

These are the kind of questions we have to ask ourselves and have answers. The punishment is the easy part but what happens afterward? Should anything happen afterwards?

If he knocked a man out and dragged him out of an elevator, he would have went to jail.

Sure, but would he be banned for life from the NFL? I ask because there have been NFL players involved in murder and rape in the past and did not receive a lifetime ban.

Janay needs to divorce him now and ask for that Eddie Murphy HAAAAAF, because he's not making that NFL money now, and loving an abusive ex ball player won't pay the bills.

Of course, I can't make her leave, and a victim of an abusive relationship needs to break out when he/she wants to, not when I want him/her to.

But man, it would be the icing on the cake for Ray Rice to have to deal with a divorce right now.

I would think he should get the same treatment if he did that to a man. I would've asked your co worker if she saw the video. I mean, knocking her unconscious like that and then dragging her unconscious body around the lobby like that? Nah man, unless they are threatening your life, you don't put hands on people like that.

Running backs come and go quick in the NFL. He is past his prime and rapidly approaching 30. The law firm had better stats then Ray Rice did last year. And no one is rushing to sign him. I simply don't think he's good enough for any team to sign him.

No team wants a media circus for their #3 running back.

Nothing legally for Solange but Jay-Z never pursued anything against her legally. Most people agreed that she was wrong though.

Part of me respects that a women feels so strongly about equality between the sexes that even in this case she'd want a woman to be treated like a man but I personally would never apply that to domestic violence. You're always going to have a dominant personality in any relationship and the dominant person shouldn't be taking advantage of that fact to abuse their SO.

Yea, we all saw the video. Her point was that a lot of the outcry is centered around the fact that it was a woman that he beat and not that he beat up someone. Her question is a valid one having thought about it a little bit now. The public will label people like Ray Rice and Chris Brown as women-beaters, and they'll be remembered infamously for a long time, but when it's a man beating up another man, typically they're quickly forgotten and the public outcry isn't as severe from what I've observed.
