Respect my ass. They knew all along that he knocked her out. Did they need to see the video evidence to get a conscience?Holy shit.
Massive respect earned by the Ravens
Ravens aint shit. Them trying to save their own ass after this video was released changes nothing.
They knew what happened and didn't give a damn until it made them look bad. The NFL included. Absolutely disgusting league.
Holy shit.

Let's take this to it's logical conclusion and nuke the entire AFC North just to be sure.
Has anyone seen of the the tweets from the players that ESPN has been talking about? They're saying that there were quite a few players tweeting about how they didn't want to have this (domestic violence) in their league. I haven't ran across any, so i'm curious about who was speaking out about it.
It's just a business decision. Having him on the team when the public (including their fans) has seen this video is bad for business. They weighed the public response against his value on the field and releasing him was clearly the right business move.
Hey now... none of the rest of us (other AFCN teams) had anything to do with this...
it'll be interesting to see what happens with Ray McDonald. A 6 game ban in the aftermath of all this looks fucking lenientNot sure if this has been asked, but if the entire altercation had happened today, wouldn't he have been suspended 6 games under their new policy? The NFL is a complete shit show when it comes to discipline, not that I disagree with suspending/cutting him at this time I would like to add.
Big Ben's a rapist, the existence of the Browns brings us all down as a nation and the Bengals are boring.
Do the Cowboys have a decent running back this year? If not, Jerry Jones loves headlines.

Ray Rice to WWE when?
See this is the part I guess I'm trying to get at. There needs to be some change in the NFL that states that if you are terminated for certain reasons (domestic abuse, rape, murder, etc.....) that you immediately forfeit all money regardless of the contract. If you are cut just because you suck and can't play anymore then yes, you should still get paid what's on your contract.
What this sounds like to me is that if Rice had not been suspended, and then this video shows up today and the Ravens cut him, he would still be entitled to his 2014 Salary. And that is absolutely disgusting if that is the case.
Ravens just deleted the victim blaming tweet LULZ.
Welp, that will make people forget about it and...oh wait...here it is:

It's like with Sterling in the NBA, knowing what he did is one thing, something you can safely ignore without harm to the business, having an actual tape/video that the public can see/hear and associate with the league is another.
....why? They knew all along what happened, they just cut him when the PR got too hot. They were totally cool with it when it was blowing over.
FIRE GOODELL
1. The Ravens have fired Ray Rice, only after they were presented with *iconic* visual evidence that he punched Janay Palmer unconsious.
2. This is "the right decision" yes, but why did anyone need the actual video to prove his guilt? HE ADMITTED AND APOLOGIZED.
3. The fact that only iconic visual evidence of an actual crime led to his firing, and not the indexical evidence of *dragging a limp body*
4. Says a lot about how we regard domestic abuse. Dragging a limp body not enough. WE NEED TO SEE THE PUNCH LANDING, via TMZ. Then: justice.
5. Everyone loses. Janay Palmer most of all, for being pressured by her husband's fame and the Ravens/NFL into being the Good Wife.
6. The only "victors" here are the PR teams of Baltimore and the NFL, for ridding their organizations of a corrupt element.
7. It sickens me that people need to see the actual punch to get viciously angry at Rice. Titillation should not be a prerequisite for anger
8. The implications carry over to ESPN's coverage of this mess. They're framing it as "did the NFL see this tape before 2 game suspension"?
9. This implies that ESPN agrees that smoke (limp body, ACTUAL CONFESSION) isn't enough for the NFL, that they need the actual flames.
10. Guys like Schefter are out here being angriest that they NFL *lied to them*, think about what that's saying to young women right now.
All that's needed is proof that they saw the video previously and are lying about it today.
That's what makes this interesting. The video gave the NFL a chance to correct itself for only hitting him with the two game suspension. The commish even said he had dropped the ball on the issue. It kind of grandfathered him into the new rule by bringing the public new evidence of the abuse. However, the video is SO incriminating that they almost have no choice but to inflict a very, very harsh punishment just to save face from the entire situation. This way they can look back and say, "See! See! We did the right thing."
Baltimore PD isn't going to just stay quiet if Goodell is lying, and using them as the scapegoat. The truth will come out quickly, if the BPD issues a statement.
Happened in Atlantic City ....
There is no reason he shouldn't have served jail time for that.

This, from Eric Harvey, Assistant Professor of Communication at Weber State University, popped up in my Twitter feed. Pretty much agree on all counts. In part:
obviously. That's what sunk Rice, but this diabolical has changed the way these crimes are punishedThey don't have a video in that case. The video here is what sealed Ray Rice's fate.
The NFL and Ravens are freakin gutless. The guy was already punished (albeit lightly). How can you let public outrage with zero new information lead to this? What did folks think a knockout punch would look like?
Nice precedent set here. Why shouldn't DUIs now lead to players being cut too? It's just as bad if not worse than hitting a woman IMO.
They don't get paid at all once cut. The salary cap money that the Ravens are held accountable is just dead space they can't use. It's to deter teams from offering ridiculous contracts they never plan on seeing the end of. Any NFL player can be cut at any time and, unless their contract specifies guaranteed money, their salary is no longer paid at that point. A portion of it still counts for the team's salary cap though, as though they were still paying him. But they aren't. Usually dead cap money isn't even money that was still to be paid, it's prorated based on the signing bonus already paid and the amount of time on the contract.
Basically it discourages a team from signing somebody to a "25 year, $250 million contract" when they plan on cutting the player after two seasons. The vested veteran stuff is a different subject though, and is also generally meant to prevent teams from taking advantage of players or keeping them on the roster long enough to negatively impact their future earning ability.
(edited because I saw an earlier reply and missed something in between where the subject shifted)

DUI's make no sense in the league as all teams have people ready to pick players up around the clock if they're drunk.
I believe they disbanded that under the last cba. Edit: well they did but the nflpa picked it up. Costs $85 a ride now. Dumb, but still cheap for a nfler.DUI's make no sense in the league as all teams have people ready to pick players up around the clock if they're drunk.

I know, and I'm not saying for years or anything, but he should face some punishment outside of the NFL, which he probably will.Well let the legal system decide that, and remember to keep these issues separate. "Throw him out of the league" and "throw him in jail" are two VERY different things. Beef with the NFL and beef with RR and beef with the legal system should be addressed separately.
