im talkin w/ respect to the playstation brand. No console prior has ever had the same name on it either… nor was the numbers game ever as dominating as has been the case w/ playstation 1 and 2.

Not this again... here's a lesson in marketshare...

...no console has ever dominated retail, publishers, consumers, media and the industry at large like NES did. And none likely ever will again either. Period.

bleh. if sony dumps devil may cry for resident evil, i'll dump sony. (though i doubt they pay for dmc exclusivity anyway)

They paid for DMC1. After that I doubt it though.

No, Resident evil has always sucked for me. RE4 looks really good, hope the PS2 port plays well.

i doubt we'll see anything more than a mention of re 5 at e3, capcom are probably just concentrating on the ps2 port of re 4

It's important now that RE4 has revitalized the series, at least with respect to gameplay. Salewise it hasn't really been a huge draw since Capcom mistakenly thought they could use the series to sway the market to their liking.

well it wasn't that big of a deal, RE sales plummeted and its exclusivity didn't do much to sell GCs, it wasn't like FF7 or DOA3 where moving to a different platform actually increased the fanbase and popularity of those franchises

I don't think there's any confirmation, I think they're just taking the announcement that RE5 is in the works and running with it as being for PS3.

That said, I think after GC, Capcom will be reluctant not to put RE on Playstation next gen. Nintendo's next might get it too, but I think PS3 is a lock.

I think it would cause quite an uproar if they DIDN'T put it on a Nintendo console.

You can't make a series exclusive to one console for that many years and then completely jump ship when the exclusivity deal runs out, can you?

Then again, maybe the same could be said for how they abandoned the series on PS2 and it's solid Playstation fanbase.
