I dont trust your opinion. You'll probbaly say RR was better...

What? I haven't even played Ridge Racers, how could I say it's better than that?

Unless you mean Ridge Racer DS.

In which case, no... Asphalt is better than that. Which isn't saying much.

poor nintendo and that pitiful ds. once psp hits the shelves, parents are going to be pissed that they have to buy another handheld so soon after buying the ds.

those pics are horrid.

It depends really. While the PSP will outsell it, their won't be any titles that offer anything particularly unique on the PSP, merely downgraded PS2 style games. They'll both find their place in the market.

This is similarly rolleye worthy

I think it's true.

Downgraded PS2-esque games = PSP

Technically inferior games with the odd flash of quirky inspiration = DS

I'll be buying both. In fact, my DS is already on its way and PSP will follow as soon as Sony bring it over here (provided it's at a decent price) because I wouldn't trust an imported PSP in a million years.

But seriously, what's with forcing these console style games to DS, which is obviously a lot better suitable for minigames, puzzlers and RPGs? I guess they sell.

Ahem. To be fair, EA are not ground breakers.

You changed your comment to "PS2-esque", which could essentially be translated to "console-esque", which is fine for pretty much everything under the sun.

As for downgraded...

Where would you place the PSP on the spectrum of hardware?

Although the PSP CPU power is less than the current generation living room console, we are able to achieve visuals that are on par with second or third generation PS2 titles.

Expect this to start being very apparent once the launch titles are out of the way and people start taking advantage of 100% of what the PSP can offer.

If you want to be "technical", then Mercury and Lumines offer just about as much "odd, flashy, quirky inspirational gameplay" as anything comparable on DS. The same can and will likely be said about many DS games over PSp games.

My point is they both have the potential to offer unique and innovative experiences. Just because the interface is a little different does not mean PSP will therefore be devoid of originality.

I agree with you here. I wouldn't import a PSP ever. I need to put my hands on it via a kiosk to throw my support behind it. Need to know how it feels, etc...

...plus I want a two year warranty that can actually be upheld :P

It's all about the games. So far, neither handheld has proven they warrant my dollars. Just a bunch of lazy ports and 'lite' versions of existing console franchises.

Stuff like video encoding and hax manga viewing, which seems to get a lot of attention here isn't really worthwhile for me to own a PSP, not to mention the massive capital outlays I need just get get the unit plus all the unmentioned extras, like memory sticks that cost as much as the unit itself and coming from a person who uses SD card.

As for the DS, the games, well most of them, are just plain boring and uninspiring. There's a few niche touchy type games that's going to get the hardcore Nintendo/otaku/quirky crowd excited, but nothing like what Mario 64 or Ocarina was for the N64 and looking ahead, there's not much yet known about the line-up to really get me excited. Animal Crossing might do it for me, but that's if it's not another revision of the same game Nintendo has peddled so far and it actually offers new stuff to do and maybe on-line play. A lot of ifs.

1GB Sandisk Memory Stick Pro Duo = ~120.

Oh understood. You mean my comment about unmentioned add-ons that costs as much as the unit. I stand corrected. It was an offhand comment on my part, but $120 is still $120.

Oh, I agree. They are rapidly dropping in price now, though. I expect them to be 99.99 at some point in the near future, which would make it negligibly more expensive than the comparible 1GB SD card. Cheapest 1GB SD Card (that's actually quality) cost 79.99, so 20 dollar difference.

Anyway, my main point was just that it didn't cost as much as the unit... so carry on :)

You don't HAVE to buy a 1GB stick. You can get a 32mb stick duo for around $30 or so.

I use SD cards as well. I bought a 1gb stick duo for the same reason I have two 512mb SD cards. They pay for themselves with the amount of space you get for putting movies and music on them.
