Real Racing 3: It's the Sim Racer You've Always Wanted On Your Phone/Tablet

Can someone tell me how this racing ghost time thing work because if it's how I think, then this game is unbalanced garbage. I'm early in the game and now the races are almost impossible to win 1st. If you really racing people ghost time in your game then how in the world can someone who doesn't spend a dollar is suppost to beat someone who buys money gets the best car for the event and upgrades it to the max? 1st place be ahead by like 20 seconds, This is terrible, I deleated this junk. They want f2p players to be grinding? yeah right. This is p2w

There are a limited number of upgrades. Eventually you'll catch the leader, no matter how much money they spent.

Yea but because people can spend real money they can blow by races set there times and move on, while people who don't will lose then have to grind repeatable races a bunch of times then wait hours for repairs and upgrades then try the race again. Terrible experience for the free guy, but i guess that was on purpose to make people spend $$. I'm not gonna spend hours or days just to gold a race.

Game needs some serious optimisation on android, very lazy from EA, as per usual.

Was hoping this sequel would actually have physics and ai, but once again it has neither.

Car models are nice though.

I could be wrong, but it seems to me you 1st have to place 1st vs. a set time, then you race against the "best" times on the server and your friends after you clear the event.

So you can get 1st in 1:15 in an uncleared track, but after you have the trophy you may need under a minute to get 1st again. It basically turns into a leaderboard after you win.

The more I play this, the more I hate it. The AI drivers in this game are absolutely garbage. They stay in their driving line no matter what. If you drive next to them, they will push you right into a wall or onto the grass. And this happens constantly because tracks are so narrow. I would rather just race against ghosts than this garbage AI.

True. Worse is you have to pay a good sum of money to fix your car after the race. Which is problematic in a f2p model.

My initial stats.

PS: I actually like the physics mix between sim and arcade. You can throw me into the camp that wishes the AI was more dynamic verses just never moving from their racing line.

There is no mix between sim and arcade, its pure arcade, the physics and ai are on par with the first ridge racer

Having real cars and tracks does not a sim make

My goodness this game looks and plays great on my iPhone 5. Since I just got this phone two weeks ago, I'm just staggered that I can play something like this on a phone.

This f2p model will probably work out fine for me, since I really won't be playing it that much. I've got sooooooo many other games to play.

I too thought it was mildly entertaining and quite good graphics with a nice arcade handling model..

Now I'm waiting 5 mins for an oil change... sure.. they can repair the damage instantly, but changing the oil is 'realtime'..

Still.. not bad for free..

Looks okay on the iPhone 4S but looks grainy?

I'll play it a little more before making any judgement but seems okay at the moment.

So what's the best upgrade path? Is it worth upgrading your car or just saving up for a new car?

I've basically maxed out my initial car. I'm just rolling with that until I can't win any more races. I've got like over 50k just stashed to get a new car once I really need to. Not sure if that is they way to go or not.

That's a good way to go. You can buy a Street Spec car (the next car class which opens up a lot of races) for about 60K.

Thanks for the tips. I can't imagine I'll stick with the game very long (same as with GT, the AI is just no fun to drive against), but I'd at least like to see how it plays in some decent cars.

I'm going to write a guide on IGN about how to play for free on Monday. Short version:

Buy the Focus or Silvia, max it out. Race until you can't anymore.

Buy the Nissan 35OZ, max it out. Race the three sets of races that car unlocks until you can't anymore.

Buy the Ford Shelby GT500, Max it out.

Buy the BMW Z4. Max it out.

Buy the Dodge Viper SRT10. Max it out.

After that there's a path that's AS clear. I bought the SRT Viper GTS and the Audi R8 LMS Ultra.

This path will get you ~30 hours of race time for free, without grinding. The key is to find a reasonably-priced car that fulfills three criteria:

1) It opens up at least one (ideally 2-3) new sets of races.
2) It is the BEST car in at least one of those race sets, so you know you can upgrade it and take it all the way to the end. It does no good to buy a cheaper car that will stop being effective halfway through. Save and get the better one.

The Nissan, for example, will take you all the way through Street Spec Skirmish and Road Car International, and halfway through Prime Production Match-up. The Shelby will dominate the two series' it unlocks, too.

I would never spend money on a game like this so its pretty cool they made this one free and I finally got to play an entry in this series. Once you buy a second car you don't have to wait for service or upgrades anymore, just rotate cars.

I don't under stand the hate? People complaining of waiting yet say they would rather pay $15 dollars. Well then Pay 10 dollars and unlock everything.

Me on the other hand have found once you get a second car going you can pretty much play indefinitely if your not wrecking a lot. I would assume as soon as you get a 3rd even more so. Didn't even notice but Im following the above route but bought the Skyline and was already planning to get the GT500.

I don't think there is a problem here. I think its a pretty smart move and a great game available to everyone. Right now I'm playing 2 f2p games. Path of Exile which I just spent 20 bucks on cause I needed the storage and RR3. I probably won't buy anything in this one but I will play it and hope for more manufacturers to be added.

First of all, the game is fucking free. I would cherish a world where all games were free, and we only paid money if we liked them. User choice.

Playing on an iPad 4, and I'm blown away by how awesome this experience is. No money spent so far, but if I get to that point where I need to, I won't feel butthurt about it.

Question: Is there no way to tell how much money you will earn before taking on a race? I want to repeat some races, but I'm sure you get diminished money for placing 1st repeatedly. Help!

After all the negative press, I've started playing and enjoying it a hell of a lot, feel free to add me as a friend on Game Center so I can race some others (Anilones).

I don't think I'd mind it if they designed it this way... but with a $5, $10, even $20 premium upgrade that eliminated a good chunk of the F2P design, IE repairs are instantaneous along with upgrades, you earn money faster, whatever. Basically a F2P version you can just keep chipping in or dealing with if you're impatient, or buying the game and having it treated more or less like a normal paid for game, even if you still can pay for early car unlocks or whatever. I'd say you get the best of both worlds, but to these companies the best of freemium is getting people to pay obscene amounts of money, and a $20 fee to eliminate most crap would definitely pale compared to the few that'll just throw several thousand in casually, or at least blow off the idea of constantly chipping money in.

It's flat out too expensive IMO, £1.49 buys me 10 coins, some car repairs and engine swaps after a medium length race can cost 11 coins, I'm not willing to spend that money on one repair.

wait, youre spending real money to repair your car, or am i not understanding?

So for the hell of it, I switched off wifi and cellular data today and wow what a difference. The game is much easier offline, actually lapping other cars now.

"The game is fucking free" is not an excuse for shitty game design and it shouldn't be used to justify everything. Have you wondered why everyone seems to complain about the AI? because it's designed to deal damage to your car (and hopefully trick you into paying for repairs), not to actually race against you. Here's a basic element of every racing game ruined by a bad implementation of F2P model. I'm all for F2P (I love dota2), but this isn't a good example.

I've read game pulled other gamers telemetry for your opponents' AI. So being offline could help you win.

I might try that. I stopped playing because the garbage AI will ram you any chance they get. And when you start every race behind 15+ drivers like that, the game becomes very frustrating.
