New Re:view, for Escape from New York.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ff2YU6XtZ9o

Interesting that Mike didn't really like the movie much, but in some ways I can see why. I am with Jay on this one, I absolutely love Escape from New York, and it is not really nostalgia talking either since I didn't see this movie until my mid 20's. But I love the tone on Escape from NY, the character of Snake Pliskin, the score, Isaac Hayes as the Duke and the area they filmed in was just amazing.

I was not a fan of the sequel either, as it was just a retread of the first movie with optical effects that have dated really badly. Though it still did have a great score from Shirley Walker. Shirley Walker did take the original John Carpenter score and pump it up. She also added a lot of her own style to it as well by giving Snake Pliskin and other characters their own theme music in the same way that she gave theme music to the characters in Batman TAS. But oddly, Mike might actually like the schlockiness of the second one more. What he described that he would have liked to see from the first movie was present in the second one.

Mike started working out or something?

He does look a bit better doesn't he? Not sure if it's his clothes, if he lost some weight, got some sun or a combo of all 3.

Someone made a comment about mike seeming 'optimistic' again in a video recently. Wonder if he goes through seasonal depression? Wouldn't surprise me with the kind of winters Wisconsin can get.

There's a comment in the Escape From New York video that says 'Mike would love Metal Gear solid' and it's kinda like, 'no he'd rip it to shreds for being a lame, poorly written rip-off of a famous movie and character'

nobody but video game fans think mgs is well written

And
John Carpenter is trash except for Halloween and Thing

JC's The Thing is soo good. Saw it for the first time last October on a horror genre kick and wondered why I had never seen it before. It's up there with Alien IMO.

It actually struck me how much better Escape from NY's story and execution was when I first saw it, since I played MGS first. It's sort of deflating to realize something cool is just a bad cover song of an actual classic, like watching Kill Bill as a martial arts movie fan and just seeing lots of ideas that were better done in the source material.

I'm a bit late to talking about this. But I had to admit, they were pretty spot on with the Mike and Jay cadence and comic timing. Even if they were English and Scottish.

Lies! Big Trouble in Little China is a cinematic masterpiece.

I think one of my favorite HITB moments is Mike summarizing John Carter using all the very specific jargon from it. I love that movie, but even I can't tell at what point he just starts making up words.

Even then it's dodgy. MGS is schlock, but it's really fun schlock

Predicting what Mike will like is impossible. You have better odds winning the lottery, I think.

I finally got around to watching the X-Men HitB last night because I finally saw the movie. Mike completely gushing at length about various parts of the movie then concluding it with "...it was so bad" was hilarious.

Serious Sam is a wicked gahbidge series for chowdaheads.
Mike's problem with Escape from New York is that it isn't shlocky enough. He'd probably love MGS.

BTiLC is cult-overrated baloney sauce. I really wanted to like it, but I couldn't.

I'm kind of in the middle. Big Trouble in Little China is fun and I think it's a perfectly fine movie, but the cult-following does overrate it a tad. If Halloween, The Thing, and Escape from New York are Carpenter's A-tier, then BTiLC is B-tier.

when i watched it i thought it was a little dull, but i liked it still. but i think that was only in the last 5 years i saw it. never saw it in high school or as a kid -- may have had a different reaction.

It's like Goonies, really enjoyable if you watched it as a kid, but otherwise it's super dated and kinda lame.

I never saw this when I was younger, either, so that might be it. I only saw it a few years back. I thought Kurt Russell and Kim Cattrall were engaging, but I did not enjoy most of it. I didn't laugh, or really feel much.

I saw it for the first time a couple years ago and loved it. Kurt Russel despite being the main character pretty much taking himself out for a bit in the big final fight was hilarious

Two loading screens to start.
"Is this fun?" "I do believe people find this to be fun, yes."
Fake tension sucks. (Basically jump scares)
Rich is bored and plays one-handed
Nicely animated, looks great
Weak combat has really weighty punches
Beer or cola? But my wife asked me to grab the food.
Rich is napping while Drake and the wife chat on the couch
Too many cutscenes... "Let me do something in your gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaameeeee....."
Rich is now playing blind with hints from Jack
They hate it so much

Ding ding ding.

im fine with them shitting on a game if they dont like it. i think the reason why it doesnt come off as funny and more like pretension is because they arent using campy/weird production valued things. also for whatever reason they tend to have videos about things they both hate or both love, and rarely is it split.

like ya'll said, i think ive already watched the episode before i even clicked it.

I think it achieved cult status for not failling. It's such a weird movie that could random shit to be laughed at, and yet it is... Actually all right. So time passes and being perfectly fine gets adored because hindsight say this movie should be just bad.

Why? They have their (old-fashioned) taste, which is fine. If they don't have fun, that's what they should talk about. I much prefer that over reviewers that try really hard to pretend that they are "critics".

I just feel as though they should avoid cinematic games, as they clearly don't like them. I don't like them either, but knowing this, I never bothered to play Uncharted 4 or The Order despite their graphical appeal. I just hate games that constantly take control away from the player.

I realize they have to review the most popular games to appeal to the masses, but their opinion is marred by the fact that the fans of the show can accurately predict their review just from the genre of the game.

See, that's how I feel about Buckaroo Banzai. BTiLC is actually clever and funny, Whereas Buckaroo Banzai merely thinks it is.
I feel more strongly against Buckaroo Bonzai, mostly because I blind bought the DVD having heard it was great. It is no bueno as well.

Buckaroo Bonzai is a movie that I watched with an open mind, expecting it to be another hidden gem from the '80s. But I felt so indifferent towards it after watching it. I get what it was going for, but it just didn't hit the right chords with me. I'm still not really sure what to think about it.
