Reddit Compiles Definitive List of All NMS Missing Features/False Marketing +Sources

Ugh, internet went out. Anyway...

Yes, lets not be anal about this. Sony is distributing, marketing and running PR for NMS as a console exclusive. They have control over this product and a huge stake in how it performs. They didn't front this money on blind promises. That's just such a ridiculous defense for any company.
You said they were Publishing and the plain fact is they are not.

I do not care about your general feelings about the relation between Sony and HG on NMS, to be frank.

Has Sean Murray or anyone from Hello Games made a statement about any of this??

They could at least be honest and say that all of these missing things will be updated into the game in the near future and that we will get even more features on top of that.

Something along those lines would be greatly appreciated.

I'm baffled how people really believed that this game would deliver on all promises. Even for a large team it sounded doubtful, let alone with a development team of 12 people.

You will take your bug and crash fix patch and enjoy. Expecting anything else for a game with this many technical issues is crazy. I hope I'm wrong but I see the team being busy for awhile on the many bugs in this game.
My biggest issue right now( besides the crashing) Is the ship will something land on uneven ground and it will not allow you to take off. Yes I know it canbe fixed with a bybass chip calling your ship. Still annoying espically so the millons of cool downs in this game make doing simple task like running a pain.

Meh, it's still a great game imo. What they delivered in the final game is more than enough to keep me busy and entertained for well over a hundred hours. Features are often cut as games approach deadlines. Perhaps they will add some of this stuff in free dlc.

Jones:"It is not exciting for me as a videogame journalist to not get answers about a game."
Man, I'm watching this video, and I've always appreciated Huber's genuine excitement, but he really betrays himself as a part of the enthusiast press over being an actual journalist in that sequence. Ben too a bit, and definitely Ian.

"Sean Murray wouldn't like you."

Get effed dude. Jeez.

Jones is so spot on. "All the things you think I'm not understanding about this game, I understood the second it was announced."

This is tangential, but they mention it, so I've got to say that this whole thing where members of the gaming press talk about going on "media blackout" just seems stupid to me, and in contradiction to actually being journalists. Do your job or forfeit your claim to actually being anything more than fans of a medium like the rest of us.

No, but I wrote a statement for them.

An Update on No Man's Sky from Sean Murray

The launch of No Man's Sky was a moment of tremendous pride for myself and our development team, culminating four years of passionate work. For us, the launch was the culmination of years of work on new technologies, development of various innovations -- including our groundbreaking procedural universe engine -- and a total transformation of who Hello Games is. Even more importantly though, we understand and appreciate that the launch was a highly anticipated moment for many of you as well, as you looked forward to finally taking part in this grand new journey, one of the first truly next-generation space adventures.

Unfortunately, at launch, the overall excitement for the game has been marred by confusion and questions about the implementation of multiplayer in the game. Some discovered that stickers were placed on boxes of their game to cover up the multiplayer designations. We were amazed to see that on the day of launch, two enterprising players realized that they were in the same part of the universe, worked their way to the same planet and attempted to meet each other, but then found they were unable to see one another. I want to sincerely apologize on behalf of the entire No Man's Sky team, and of course on my own behalf. This confusion has taken away from your enjoyment of the game and we should have been more forthcoming about the status of multiplayer in the game.

As of right now, the multiplayer interactivity that I promised in many interviews has been stripped from the game. We are currently hard at work fixing other critical errors that players are experiencing in the game, and the patches we are releasing have managed to solve many of them. We are however still committed to reintroducing the multiplayer interactivity and will continue working on a patch for it.

To show our appreciation for your continued support, we are planning an impromptu piece of DLC called the Founder's Pack, free for everyone who joined us for the launch of No Man's Sky. This Pack will include various customization options for your ship and character model so that when you do meet other players soon, they will know that you were there for the launch of the game and the birth of this grand voyage.

In the meantime, we would appreciate all of you continuing to send us your feedback and impressions of the game. It has been both humbling and incredibly useful to read your thoughts as we continue to work hard to improve No Man's Sky. We are hopeful that with these forthcoming patches, everyone will truly be able to enjoy No Man's Sky in the way that they would like, even with their friends.

We will never stop striving to make the universe of No Man's Sky one of the most ambitious and innovative experiences in the world, and we thank you for all your love and support these past four years and going forward.

Thank you so much for taking the time to play.

Sincerely,
Sean Murray

so all he has to do is say that every feature they ever mentioned during development that has been dug up by the entire internet will be simply and easily "updated into the game in the near future"...

PLUS mysteriously stated "even more features"...

and that this is realistically do-able?....

and you think it would be "honest" for him to commit to all of this?

lol no wonder there is so much hurt. people have insane expectations.

Overall I feel like he's just buying time and trying to get as many sales as possible. "Founders package." Um... The game just came out? Is he now incentivizing people to hurry and buy the game to play it now so they get these rewards just a week after the game's launch and people questioning over the lies and holes in the marketing...?

orthodoxy1095 wrote that for them. lol.

- There is only a handful of planet variations! / Way more than that, specially once you get out of the pre determined paths and explore Blue/ Green/ Red stars system
Haven't seen any evidence of this - anyone got any screenshots?

First, it was 'closer to the centre!' now its 'in different star systems'.
Oh, on my 122th planet today (71 hours into the game) I found something that was being discussed incidently! The beach/shore line. All the interesting planets I've found in the green, blue or red coloured stars on the galaxy map.
Ahh, interesting, thanks. That water.

He literally says in his post that he wrote it haha

Different star systems is the right one. Though I wonder if the amount of red, blue and green stars is much higher near the center. that would mean he wasn't lying. Though I haven't been close enough to observe.

Yeah, that's exactly what would fix this whole situation.

And my mysteriously stated "even more features" are things like Moon Rovers and being able to customize our player character - things that weren't promised before, but could be added via updates.

Yeah my respect for Jones really grew with this. He simply managed to stay objective and he was arguably right for not liking how the game was presented and questions unanswered.

has anyone found this trader?

If anyone ever needed an example on how misinformation gets spread on the internet, it's right here in these posts

It's crazy to still see so many people being so nice about all this. These guys lied. In the last few months especially Sean Murray became a legit con artist.

If there's some stuff from a year and a half ago that was in the game and got removed that's one thing (though the amount and scope of those changes does necessitate some sort of comment if you're not trying to be seen as dishonest), but it goes way beyond that. What they were showing in trailers and gameplay previews wasn't the game we got, straight-up. A lot of fans of the game are saying crazy stuff like "well, that stuff wouldn't have added to the game anyway. Besides, I'm having fun..." as if everyone has to have their same low standard for how much it matters that they were lied to.

The media would ask him about multiplayer and his response was always "yes, but the universe is so big that you'll never meet each other," because he KNEW that it was just plausible enough to pacify people without seeming like a total lie. Classic conman tactics. Blatant misdirection from a guy who seems so earnest that you're sure he wouldn't lie to you. To this day you still see people parroting that quote as an argument that there is actually multiplayer in the game. Then when people find out there's no multiplayer they go on Twitter and throw up their "this is a single player experience" bs, and say pretty much nothing else for a week.

"Ho boy! I don't want to jump to conclusions or anything, but there really is something disquieting about their conduct lately!"

You've been had. Advocate for yourself as a consumer instead of acting like these people did you some huge favor in raking in the millions they've earned for this game.

Anyone with eyes can see that they've been shady about things. It's not just "well, things change during development."

Man. I caught soooo much flak before the game came up by the rabid fanboys in any thread by asking "But what the fuck do you do in it?" .... now I see this ... and any stream on twitch of people mindlessly farming resources with a shitty laser and shitty ship combat.

I feel good that I wasn't too far off on my opinion of my game from viewing the trailer ...

But I also feel bad for the people that bought all that hype and ultimately were let down due to the false promises. Really sucks when it happens ... kinda happened to me with Fallout 4.

Seems to me like the game was rushed out the door. They wouldn't, or couldn't afford to delay again. Probably would have released in 2017.

Maybe they thought the universe was so large that they had time to add stuff later?

I dunno, but its not a good look. Most likely they cut everything to hit release and will implement changes via patch down the line.

Remember how everyone was so impressed with that day one patch? Haha.

Sean Murray has some balls talking about paid DLC when we have been sold a game thats not even finished, especially when he previously said everything would be free...

Oh yeah and my game has been crashing quite a bit lately...

Yeah I got this. But why is RIME used as an example here? I thought the game is gonna be good?

Nothing to do with the game being good. They are talking about how Sony tossed money at RIME because it was an exclusive for the system, and now it may not be an exclusive anymore and has been pushed back to 2017.

Different star systems is the right one. Though I wonder if the amount of red, blue and green stars is much higher near the center. that would mean he wasn't lying. Though I haven't been close enough to observe.
Oh I didn't mean he was lying, just people were kind of parroting what he was saying with no evidence. All the screenshots I've seen look just like my yellow systems - but good to hear from more and more people that you might get some more interesting stuff.

Oh I see. I missed the non-exclusive news then. Need to search for the details.

Absolutely. What he said about how the demos looped through similar content each time and how questions kept being left unanswered even after multiple showcases was probably part of the answer to why the game kept getting all those "what do you do?" questions.

In fairness those hype articles aren't usually written by the same person who wrote the review, but it is the same reason why I refuse to buy into FFXV being good just because of a some positive impressions from E3 and Gamescom.

Big whoop. The enthusiast press is overhypejng games constantly.

*insert that Sean mindblown turns into Crakachu gif in here*

So how does that work? hahaha did they just take quotes from impressions? passing by comments?
I think this game proves that some gaming journalist or nothing more then fanboys getting paid.

Ah, an 'expert'. Or not with those kinds of logic leaps and complete misunderstanding of the indie publishing biz. Sony also once upon a time was involved with RIME coming to PS4. Couple of tradeshows, blogs, deals. Ultimately it was revealed to be a scam project and Sony backed out hardcore.

Can anyone give a source for this?

I've only sporadically followed RIME but from what I heard I thought the game did have a deal to release on PS4, then it was shelved for a while and then the dev decided to buy the rights back and now the development is back on track with a multi platform release planned.

The game exists still. Supposedly.

But it's no longer a platform/console exclusive or anything under Sony.

Gray Box and Six Foot are publishing it, supposedly due in 2017: http://m.neogaf.com/showthread.php?t=1260882

Doesn't do much to assuage the rumor that they had nothing to show after years when Sony wanted progress.

I think Bosman and Bloodworth are pretty good actually. But yeah, as much as I love the rest of them, I wish they'd take the investigative part a bit more seriously.

This is why I expect cool things to come from VICE and their new venture into gaming journalism.

Man, it would be awesome if they where doing a piece on NMS right now but I bet they have things planned for a bit.

I didn't post it because it's a big whoop or a big controversy. I posted it because contrast is always interesting (so to speak).

I think the tide of over-hyping games will to a certain extent turn though. "the infamous story of No Man's Sky" might in the end bring us closer, faster, to the goal of raising awareness and transparency. My days of pre-ordering f.ex. is definitely over after this.

I'm done ordering digital unless it is from my favorite developers. And even then, it's gotta be fire. No more lukewarm jumps for me.
I say that after every bad game I buy, but truth be told I love the convince of buying digital, and never want to return to the clutter that comes from buy media( blurays, games) retail.
