I imagine there is some name linked to that company and that is Christopher Steele but beyond that it's probably not even a person. I think he/she knows the game.

Mostly that MJ claims the contractor was US based and Orbis is UK based, I suppose that could simply be a reporting error or miscommunication or deliberate obfuscation though.

I think MJ said there was a coordinating US firm, which is possible.

Jeb campaign hired a former British spy to get info on Trump but too late. Some rich Dem picked up the tab during the general. The British guy used connections in Russia to find out that Trump may have been involved in hacking the Dems and working with Russia in secret and also that he likes pee parties. British guy hands over research to FBI but they are distracted by Hillary emails. He gives it to journalists but they have trouble confirming his findings and few report about it. After Trump gets elected, McCain finds out, gets the intelligence community to start investigating, they find it credible enough to inform Obama and Trump. BuzzFeed gets the doc and drops it online, Internet goes nuts. Some info is wrong but many sources behind the scenes vouch for other parts and claim there is video evidence. WSJ doxes the British guy.

That's a very good summary.

Also, can we please not refer to the MI6 agent by name?

The British press were barred from reporting his name so it probably is his real name.

Defence and Security Media Advisory Notice guidance on the public disclosure of the names of members of the UK Intelligence Agencies (The Security Service MI5, the Secret Intelligence Service MI6 and GCHQ) asks editors and journalists not to disclose (without first seeking DSMA advice) ‘the identities, whereabouts and tasks of people who are or have been employed by these services or engaged on such work, including details of their families and home addresses, and any other information, including photographs, which could assist terrorist or other hostile organisations to identify a target’.

In view of media stories alleging that a former SIS officer was the source of the information which allegedly compromises President-Elect Donald Trump, would you and your journalists please seek my advice before making public that name.

Irrespective of the whether or not the stories are true, the public disclosure of that name would put the personal security of that individual directly at risk.

Sincerely,

Andrew Vallance

Pretty good summary.

Should be added to OP.

Thanks for the summaries guys, details seem to be coming pretty quickly. The level of ridiculousness here is just insane.

You have to be extremely naive to think that the Christopher Steele's identity wasn't already an open secret in the intelligence world. He runs a public firm that specialises in this stuff. Obviously outing him in the media leaves him open to random wackos but he isn't getting a polonium in his tea because the WSJ reported his name.

This. Also, exposing that Russia owns Trump doesn't exactly disservice Putin. Either Trump is compromised or actively treasonous, or people question this and Western alliances are still destabilized. Maybe Moscow would have preferred different timing, but this is still a foreign policy coup for it.

The random website that reported that story didn't even make internal sense. They *claimed* (uncredibly) that they received the exact same trove of documents as Wikileaks independently in order to verify this single doc was held back by Wikileaks. How could they know that? And what's the alleged scandal anyway? A client state of Russia sends money back to the mothership? It's no secret that Syria gets weapons from Putin (just like Al Nusra gets weapons from Hillary Clinton).

And also *yawn* because the whole rambling article was a word salad with a provocative headline. I doubt you read the whole thing.

Yawn, there's multiple articles discussing it from different angles and if there's nothing too it then why did Wikileaks threaten the reporters?

It's not the first time Wikileaks has edited what they're leaking, they did it with the Collateral Murder video. Remember that?

Then again based on your level of, let's be generous and say arguments, here then there's nothing that will convince you that wikileaks have ever shown bias. You can keep cheering on an organisation that dumped details of afghan citizens that co-operated with the US, leaked details of female voters in Turkey and gay people in Saudi Arabia adn complained that the Panama Papers weren't fair to Russia if you wish but I personally won't champion a partisan organisation that care not one jot for the collateral damage their leaks cause.

This has me thinking. Could there have possibly been a moment where Jeb Bush asks the spy he hired to report, hoping to dig up some dirt that will win him the election, and instead learns that he's being manipulated by Russia and has a urination fetish?

I'd love to be a fly on the wall at that moment.

Trump needs this issue to go away, and he can easily make that happen by releasing his tax returns and financial records for the last couple decades, thereby demonstrating that he has no dark Kremlin secrets. However, in his presser today, the president-elect stated that nobody but journalists care about his tax returns, which he reiterated he has no intention of releasing to the public.

This continued stalling is a grave mistake, and things will only get nastier as more of Trump’s secrets are leaked to the media. Having repeatedly warned the president-elect to avoid needless fights with our spies, since they know things, let me add that it only will get worse from here if Trump doesn’t come clean soon.

So, does that mean Trump is stupid, guilty of something but not necessarily the big things or he really is lying about very serious things?

Reading that again...it reads as a threat. No wishy washy 'maybe' of 'if' to be found.

I really hope the writers of Game Change haven't finished their book on this election yet. The epilogue must mention that by inauguration day all of one side's voters and representatives were exposed for (at least accidentally) endorsing treason

So if Trump gets impeached for this, this surely begs to question what'll happen to his cabinet appointments and his Vice President?

There's no way they'll allow Pence to reign after this lol

With fake news being such a hot topic right now and everyone saying the other person's news is fake on social media, maybe this will wake a lot of people up to who is trustworthy and who isn't.

I thought it was Jeb but now I can't find where I read that. Maybe I was wrong? Does anyone else remember seeing that?

It was definitely a rival GOP campaign.

The FBI New York office did the investigation on the emails. They are the ones with ties to Giuliani.

The info from McCain went to the FBI counter intelligence division based out Washington DC. They are very secretive as they should be.

Unless the FBI director ran interference or something the two investigations shouldn't be related.

As someone actually named "Wade Steel", I have been asked:

(a) is that your spy name?
(b) is that your porn name?
(c) is that your stage name?

And I'm reminded of Max Steel.

Hearing Jeb was involved is a surprise. Adding McCain to the list at least announces that there are voices not willing to sit idly to watch Trump run rampant.

"Oi, sir, I have the information on Trump you wanted."
"Oh good, partner, what is?"
"Well uh...it turns out that Trump might be manipulated by Russia and that he likes to be pissed on"
*Jeb stands there with this look*

In last week's intelligence briefing there was an addendum that outlined several pieces of intel that heavily pointed to Trump being compromised by Russia.

CNN reported on this but did not publish the report, because the report does not substantiate the claims.

Buzzfeed published the report.

The report has several extremely eyebrow-raising accusations, including collusion between Trump and Russia for ~5 years, Russia possessing tapes and recordings of Trump in compromising sexual situations (including him hiring several hookers to urinate in a hotel bed that he knew the Obamas previously slept on, purely out of spite), and other materials that are pointing to Russia essentially blackmailing Trump.

Trump has called it "fake news" and a "witch hunt". Since he projects in the most obvious ways possible, and since he even wrote his tweet in all-caps, he's basically confirming what these allegations are saying.

A few reporters are saying that this has been going around the journalism circles for several months, but none published because the report was classified and its contents unsubstantiated. Mother Jones reported it a week before the election but failed to get traction (see: Comey's fuckery).

It is believed that a former British intelligence official found most of the information that comprises the report.

The Wall Street Journal just publically identified him by name, because they're fucking jackasses (although it's the next step in verifying whether the report is true or not).

I could believe everything that goes on that report but this goes a bit over the top, which makes it smell like crazy talk.

I mean, Im sure the guy has done tremendous orgy parties in the US already, it fits his ego character, I would expect those to surface before believing that he hired prostitutes to pee on him on a bed that obama has slept. In russia. Like irl lol.

I think it's best for him and his family if he stayed completely anonymous no matter what, unless they came forward themselves.

It would have been completely impossible for this dude to stay anonymous. He was the CEO of a private intelligence gathering firm that worked with multiple US political campaigns. You could probably out him from looking at public linked-in profiles.

6. BBC says former British intelligence officer was working first for a SuperPac supporting Jeb Bush and then an anonymous Democrat donors.

No shit. Also the reason CNN and the news jumped on this now.

Before they couldn't get anyone to confirm it. Intelligence briefing two presidents on it makes it legitimate and raised huge red flags.

They don't bring forum posts from randos to the president's desk.
