Jap has been a completely normal abbreviation of Japan and Japanese in the UK until recently when people started to assume that you are actually not using it in the common sense abbreviation meaning but in a derogatory slur meaning. It’s like banning ’smoking a fag’ because the word also has derogatory meaning. Check any old CVG or Mean Machines to see the abbreviation used a plenty in import gaming.
