GymWolf is Italian. Now, a lot of Italians are racist to a degree. The N word is still used a lot in Italy, and most Italians will tag someone as Chinese regardless of nuance if that person has slant eyes and Asian features.
But Italy holds virtually no racism against the Japanese. Stereotypes, yes; prejudice and hostility, basically none.
“Jap” has been used in Italian video game discourse since the dawn of Nintendo. It’s an abbreviation; literally never been used as a slur. That’s why GymWolf used it liberally.
Of course, Reee doesn’t allow for ignorance and their thought police methods mean that if you wrote it, you meant it - in the worst possible way. But GymWolf was savvy enough to go back and correct the word as soon as he was notified of it. Unfortunately he apparently forgot to correct a second occurrence of the word. Anyway, a permaban for that is beyond ridiculous, as is the accusation of previous severe instances of racism, which were completely fabricated (you’d call someone racist because he pointed out that James Earl Jones dubbed Darth Vader? Come on now).

My ban ended but I just haven't felt compelled to go back. Not missing being unable to share anything remotely conservative leaning or seeing "On this day 13.5 years ago X game was released" every other thread. Reddit's better for breaking news and oddly somehow more tolerant? I’ll just add (as a developer) that 99% of sites never see your card details, as it’s nearly always handled by a third party such as worldpay, stripe, etc, and I like it that way as I don’t want the risk that goes with storing credit card data. Additionally, even sites that let you save your card typically request a token from the card provider which is used behind the scenes instead of your actual card details - that token is unique to that site and your card and can readily be revoked.

I think that people who have really absolute opinion on these kind of thing are the same kind of people who never go outside their city. When you see other culture and you travel a little you can't hold those little opinion as absolute truth because you've seen some other shit.
I was on hardcore gaming 101 discord a while back and those people there are really woke and never went anywhere in their lives. I meant I was asking interesting place to visit in their country and some just never went outside their state. To me there are two parts to racism:
A. Is it a blanket racially driven claim
B. Does the claim create uproars, negative stereotypes and oppression?
Here's two claims. Even though they are similar, I bet claim #1 leads to less people caring. In fact, I bet there's a higher chance of people in #1 agreeing and having fun with it. Here goes.
1. Italians eat lots of pasta
2. Chinese eat lots of rice

when i was a kid, in the 80s, i heard about electric cars. it sounded like a futuristic thing. i never saw one until after 2000. now, this guy is making them, and i see Teslas on the road all the friggin' time. HE IS HELPING THE CLIMATE. i thought this was the apocalyptic basis of their entire morally righteous worldview, the Extinction Rebellion, and this guy is spending millions developing electric batteries and thing that will help drive the future of sustainable energy. how is he not at least trying to put his money where his mouth is?

I think racism is a mentality more than anything. It's why comics can make racial jokes and not be racist. They say discriminatory things, but it isn't rooted in hatred, it's rooted in trying to make people laugh and they don't actual mean it.
You can be not racist at all and say things that might be construed as racist. The difference is the person who doesn't think lesser of other people because of their race won't hate, discriminate, or oppress an individual based on their race because they don't have that prejudice in their mind. The ones who do have that mentality may do it even subconsciously because they believe others are inferior and they matter less.
Claims are just that, claims. They can, but don't necessarily mean someone has a racist mentality. You can make statistical observations about certain demographics that are factually true and it not be because you have a bias against any demographic, it's just relaying information.
Mentalities are what makes a person dangerous. The most dangerous racial crusades in history were all driven by deep-seeded mentalities. If you don't have a deep belief in something, you aren't going to go to great lengths to promote it.
