For the sake of argument, it's specific books and specific writers. The Star Wars EU is pretty damn big and you get enough people putting their own spin on characters into the market, you're going to see some characterization conflicts. For them to claim that the EU made Luke look like god on high Jedi would be a major stretch. To say the EU did make him out to be vastly more powerful, trained and collected, with no further training from a master and within the year following Palpatine taking the L (and if you followed any of the comics from the time, also several years before said L taking), that would be true.

I'm positive these people couldn't even be able to give an in-depth history of the food of their culture, since vast vast majority of people can't regardless of what food they are cooking.
