The problem is Reeeeee has allowed their video game site to be taken over by every niche group treating it like a safe house.
If Reeeee wants to do that, it's on them. If they want to make it a 50/50 split forum where it's half video games and half interpersonal feelings about sexuality, racism, gender identity and any other political issue that' fine.
But at least moderate the board with people who know what they are doing to moderate.
If that many people are using Reeeeee to sound off on their personal issues, simply appointing a moderator based on the race or sexual preference doesn't mean anything.
That would be like me who likes baseball and hockey giving people tips on how to pitch or power skate just because I watch it on TV.
And if Reeee doesn't want to hire trained pros (who cost money) to help moderate a board with actual trained skills to deal with broken hearted people, then get rid of all the political crap and make the board focus on games where people aren't jumping off a bridge because Shenmue III got grilled in review. You don't need trained people to deal with people talking video games.
It's really up to Reeeee. Carry on with tearful posters and unprepared mods, or change their stance on what to focus on as a forum.

I've checked various sites and majority say they're crazy SJWs with a side of pedophilia and a dash of terrible moderation. I mean why do they continue creating their own version that they're okay (aside from questioning the moderation)? Old GAF was hated upon, nowadays not so much, just a few people grouping NeoGAF with ResetEra.

I remember neogaf having moderation on par to what exists on resetera...well maybe not as uptight but close to it. was it just the moderators (who are now mostly gone?) or was there a culture about creating an echo chamber?

I think it had to do with several moderators fostering communities that turned against each other and encouraging to rise up or something. Basically people were divided by subcultures that were pushing agendas that not all will follow or believe in.

It's the illusion of legitimacy that I've talked about before. "Big industry names" posting there combined with a very active community (despite being smaller than it seems) for a forum in the age of Twitter and Reddit allows them to buy into the facade that they're in the right because they aren't alone. Finale Fireworker commenting that "the outside internet is scary" is said without a hint of self-awareness because there's enough people to validate their extremely limited worldview. But it's more than that because a lot of them don't even realize just how much nearly every place outside their bubble absolutely loathes them for both justified and unjustified reasons.
You actually saw what happens when that bubble pops 2 years ago. Gaf refugees were legitimately shocked to see other places wanting nothing to do with them, including progressive outlets like Giant Bomb and Waypoint forums. I'm curious to see what will happen when that scenario repeats itself

Basically the Resetera culture began on GAF in probably 2015, the runup to the election. At least that's how I remember it. Before that it was very chill.
I've lurked both sites for a long time, and my favorite "era" of GAF was the late 2000s/early 2010s. It was open to diversity of thought like it is now, and it was very active. So active that I felt like I couldn't even keep up enough to participate myself, but it sure was fun to F5.

Yeah, it was in the years after 2014 or so that it started to build up here. As dumb as he and his post is, I think the one Finale Fireworker post actually encapsulates "what went wrong" in 2016-17 here and continued on over there if it's not intentionally realizing so.
What he's perceiving is a change in "Twitter" is actually a change in his social circle's focus. Same with how everyone is "angry" and "sad" now instead of funny.
Whenever you have threads about "where do you get your news/where else do you visit/etc." it's always like "I followed Party Approved Twitter accounts, watch Party Approved YouTube channels, read only appropriate Party Approved documents, etc." Look at how often the same 30 minute video of some dumbass ranting is posted in reply to subjects.
In the community threads/hangouts people all follow and post the same Twitter accounts. Now, there is some validity to this as obviously same interests and all, but if you look at the "type" or "inner community" it's near lockstep. Whether it's PoliGAF/ERA all following the same safe Democratic Party line media types, or the Star Wars obsessives all following and discussing the same small sect of other Star Wars obsessives, etc. Even in gaming the view is narrow to a select few sites/channels, like when they talk about game journalists they know Scherier and Klepek and... um... someone Austin Walker retweeted once definitely and then the Nintendo cultists of course.
"All the same faces, all the same accounts" as FF says. But as has been indicated here that becomes more than just say Twitter, it becomes beyond literal. Where do they go outside of those places to get topics to discuss, ResetERA.com. And that's it, it's the only discussion place they attend to. Lots of people used to admit they treated NeoGAF.com the same way. One stop shop for all your discussion needs. But you don't even have to read the threads, you can read the titles and look as FF puts it at the "same faces, same accounts" (or avatars) and instantly know how the "discussion" is going without reading a word.
I've never been able to stand that kind of restrictiveness, one reason I did come to post so much outside games on NeoGAF.com was because I ran so perpendicular to everyone here on lots of things. For a long time, everyone just realized I'm a philosophical anarchist/libertarian with very clear moral codes who actually doesn't take this shit too seriously and likes to make fun of all types. Then during the rise of what became the ResetERA.com prominent members I was now a "troll" because surely nobody could believe the things I say. It was "trolling" and "derailing threads" to, for example, respond to people demanding people be imprisoned for speech with an absolutist free speech view based on opposition to central state control of information. As I noted I got the impression from the staff themselves that I was not welcome on ResetERA.com so I never even tried to sign up despite their claims.
I didn't particularly mean to wander into that digression about myself and my experiences, no matter how valid they are (thanks Kyuuji) but the main point is that the reason I was active here is because it was different and actually diverse. It's the same reason I read comments on articles and go all over the internet reading weird forums, wikis and so on and so on. "Why would you want to construct and experience only a truly safe space?" is my general disposition.
ResetERA.com's members existing in a bubble isn't really all that much of a problem, we all can get into these from time to time and accidentally keep reinforcing it for quite a while. The problem is that their end goal is seemingly to construct that bubble, only without knowing what that bubble is supposed to look like. Not in a year. Hell, not in six months. Accusations of acephobia triggered the latest triggers before they even had the "smoking gun" post. Royalan has long been a legitimate social justice warrior, as in he truly believes that viewpoint and I'm not meaning it as an insult. And he's the one who had to resign over a post "on the Old Site" that basically said that black gays probably have had a rougher time historically than any asexual ever. He's been so BTFO he deleted his avatar on ResetERA.com.

Like mentioned above by somebody, forums should be fun, that should be a large part of why you come to them after maybe seeking information. Doesn't mean you can't get into a serious topic or a serious discussion or even an extended one.
They've almost inverted their pleasure system. It's about going on ResetERA.com to see stuff that sucks, whether it's Trump tweets, racist incidents, media they don't like/people not liking media they like, other people's mental issues, or just bad posts. They don't actually wind up talking about serious topics or having serious discussion because it becomes a Sensitive Thread™ and STAFF POST which instantly indicates "WARNING" to even posters who would agree with the dominant viewpoint. They actually quietly joke about STAFF POSTS over there now.
Then they step away for a while, feel better and for some reason, some of them come back all "the forum is to blame! It needs more warnings and moderators!"

Yeah, sensory bombardment is kinda like building up a strong psychological immune system, if you aren't exposed to people, things or comments that could potentially upset you or whom you disagree with, then you aren't going to be able to function properly in normal society where folks don't tread lightly at all. Working in an environment where younger adults are the main clientele I come across people in their early 20's who take things like simple disagreements as personal attacks on their well-being, and the cushioned echo-chamber that is ERA and their anus-clenchingly authoritarian staff is like seeing a digital manifestation of that. Difference being that without a physical presence online, it's so much fucking easier to silence and ignore anyone who even remotely disagrees with you or might have an edgy/spicy sense of humour, it's tragic.
And when you're so isolated that you don't have a tolerance for anything, are never challenged mentally and your brain is starved of conflict? That's when they eat their own. The KetKat/Staff incident being a perfect example of that.
