Is Separate Ways automatically on Professional? I haven't played in a little while so a bit rusty, but seems like a decent difficulty bump.

Fuck....finally finished Pro mode. When I played Pro mode, I took extra long because my goal was, to play Pro mode ONCE, and then be able to purchase a chicago typewriter without having to sell PRL and all my guns. So I played extra conservative, sold alot of ammo and health, constantly backtracked if my inventory was full to sell things, made sure I got every single treasure so I double checked through areas I cleared incase I forgot something....

Ended up only having to sell the Red9 out of all my weapons and was able to get chicago typewriter and keep the PRL, and keep fully upgraded broken butterfly and semi auto rifle (just not the bonuses for both) and fully upgraded striker with bonus.

All my deaths were due to Fucking QTE + X & A (especially on krauser on the Cutscene before the actual fight And on the last phase of his actual fight...wtf) and the stupid Jet ski at the end. God I hate that thing.
Ironically, I one shot the mine cart...didn't have any QTE issues with that......however there were so many other little QTE things involving X&A that fucked me even tho they apparently fixed it. I swear I pressed that shit. whatever.

Also, I went on record saying this game is fairly easy. That was on Normal. I can't front, there are parts in the latter half of this game that are actually really difficult on PRO. Especially if you are trying kill while using the least amount of ammo because you want to sell the ammo, so mostly knifing. I think on 5-4 I threw knifing out the window finally.

It's funny, you imagine once you unlock everything your gonna have a blast playing around with these items......then once it actually happens, you lose all urge to play.

Well, the PRL costs is free to buy and to sell.

so if u sell the PRL it doesn't give u shit?

I thought you could Sell the PRL to get some money. Either way, I didn't want to have to sell the PRL to get a chicago typewriter, under the assumption that it would give you some pesetas. Goal achieved. Finished the game with like 300k...treasure boosted me to like 870+k, then red9 was like over 100k, then sold some health and some nades, and bam....dat chicago typewriter doe.

Yes.

Chicago typewriter is one of the coolest weapons in gaming, even if the PRL is more powerful.

yea. I actually had a little fun with the PRL though. it occurred to me how hilarious the gun was when I aimed at some villagers and ended up killing the cow too....Just seeing the cow fall over was funny as shit.

Oh...is the helicopter in 5-4 supposed to not help you? This asshole literally just flew around until I cleared out people. Then he would start shooting the turrets. So when there was no one there, he started shooting. like WTF? through that whole base part...he literally only shot when everyone was dead in each section. is that how PRO mode is suppossed to be on that part? or was my game glitched?

when the Dude shot "Mike" down from the sky, this time I thought "whatever"

Is there any upgrading of weapons in Assignment Ada?
Nope. But when the crossbow shows up at the merchant, I'd hold off on buying it until right before the final encounter. It's too much of a space hog. Hang on to any crossbow bolts you find though.

MIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIKE makes me laugh every god damn time.

Yeah, he is of little help in professional.

This is a huge thread so i'm just going to ask rather than searching.
Is the controller aiming better than it was in the 360 and PS3 HD editions. Anyone who has played those and the gamecube version know what i'm talking about.

I found it faster wit the controllers, but I do get confused with the laser and end up shooting somewhere else. But yeah, it's faster but from what I remember the Gamecube's was a bit more precise.
I play it with KB + Mouse and don't have any issues with it and prefer it that way. Now, if only someone did a Keyboard or mouse with force feedback...

Seemed the same as the 360 version to me. I used 360 controllers for both.

360 controller here - seems same as 360 to me. Seemed very touchy when aiming the harpoon at you know who in the lake in particular. I beat the GC version including mercenaries, but could never do well on Mercenaries on 360 due to the slightly less smooth aiming.

I consider it to be hard as professional just because enemies move like they do in professional and not normal mode (fast/run to you) and the saves are very limited.

Nope. But when the crossbow shows up at the merchant, I'd hold off on buying it until right before the final encounter. It's too much of a space hog. Hang on to any crossbow bolts you find though.

I think we are confusing Seperate ways and Assignment Ada

Assignment Ada is just one large level with no saves.

Oh shit.

I was thinking how tough that part would be if he wasn't there. So you were actually happy when he died then?

haha, only cause it was very annoying having to deal with all those enemies, then once they were all dead, to hear Mike go "Get out the way!!!" then seeing him shoot at absolutely nothing.

Thanks for the clarification. Sounds like i'll use the KB+M

I tried playing this game based on the awesome feedback it gets.

But damn I couldn't get used to the tank controls.
I tried for 30-45 mins and decided this game is not for me.

is there any mod I can download to force normal controls? A and D strafing and normal mouse look?

naw, not that I know of, and this game was balanced around those tank controls.

No, and probably such mod will never be made.

Did you try it with a controller?

Can anyone give me a quick update on the texture mod project?

Assignment Ada is perfect if you just want a quick RE fix.
Never put much time into Mercs back on the PS2, god damn at Krauser's special attack taking out the big guy with the chainsaw in a single hit.

Sounds like this is more your speed which is a shame because the tank controls only take two minutes to understand. "I want the character to turn left, I press left. I want the character to turn right, I press right. I need to GTFO I quick turn/down+run and then forward while run."

Gears of Evil dumbs the Biohazard series down considerably.

Well, I asked more friends and it seems there's no escaping that, but I'll give it another shot with a controller.

I have to admit to my shame RE6 was the first Resident Evil I played, so I might have started on the wrong foot there (was on discount on PSN and to play with my GF)

I'll reinstall tonight and give it another go.

It should make more sense with a controller. Just give it time, you'll probably get used to it. It might seem like a weird to restrict the player in movement in that way but the game was designed with those controls in mind.

It's fine. It's perfectly understandable to struggle with the controls. If it makes you feel better, I'm so used to RE4's controls, I could only play RE5 with them set the same way, and couldn't get used to RE6's whatsoever.

I still think the gamecube version is the best. It looks great in hd, but as soon as I started moving I could tell I was in for the same jerky movements that plagued the other pc port. Am I right in assuming the gamecube version had analog camera stick movements and this is digital?

The reason the wonky tank controls worked for me was because they were perfectly designed around the strengths and weaknesses of that one controller. Usually when I'm playing a console shooter it's a challenge to get headshots, but in RE4 I could shoot zombies in the knees, shoot a machete out of the air, or land headshots with near perfect consistency. You needed to stop walking to aim, the enemies move slowly, and you have super precise control of the camera and your aim. It all works together. In this version I don't switch my tactics up nearly as much because part of my brain is always dealing with the camera. I'm constantly nudging the stick slightly, only to have nothing happen. Then I move it slightly more and it moves faster and further than I expect it to.

Mouse and keyboard is just a frankenstein mess. It technically works, but it butchers the difficulty, which is unacceptable when we're talking about one of the most tightly designed games of all time. See also: Wii controls. Plus, and I can't believe I'm saying this, rumble is awesome in this game and sorely missed. At this point I use the starting pistol or the rifle the majority of the time because they are rad, and I try to use few shots, so I don't get rumble fatigue the way I do with most shooters where the thing is just buzzing the entire time I'm playing.

Don't get me wrong, Capcom did a great job with this port, to the extent that I am willing to forgive them for forgetting the lighting engine and menu controls last time around. BUT, the next time I want to play RE4 I'm going to pull out the gamecube I still own to play RE4 on, and I'm going to plug it into the tube tv that sits unused in my room all year waiting for me to play RE4 for the zillionth time.

Also, when I get to hell Satan is going to tell me that I get to play RE4 for eternity, but I have to choose between 60fps and a properly animated bolt action rifle.

The controller support in the PC version feels very similar to the Gamecube and Wii release to me. What Ahab's describing is something I noticed in the PC port of Revelations but I just don't see it in RE4.

I'm running with the beta patch, if that makes a difference.

Anybody knows when the 1.04 patch will go up on Steam ? Don't want to tackle on Krauser until it's patched. I hate frustrating QTEs.

I've finished it on the Gamecube and the Wii, and for me the Wii was a lot more fun. So much more immersive than a controller, using a Wiimote to collect headshots and pluck away knives/axes.

Interesting. Maybe my 360 controller is just getting worn out. I recently played through Binary Domain with it and it felt fine, but that is a much faster game. I have a couple of barely used wireless controllers and a transmitter in a box somewhere, if I can find them I'll report back.

Ahab, have you updated to the latest beta patch?

Yeah, beta 1.04

The wii version is fun as hell. It would probably be my favorite if it didn't feel easier to me.
