RESIDENT EVIL 6 |OT| No Trope Left

Nah, the game pretty much blows. It's like the definition of high-budget mediocrity with no focus or vision.

This game is completely janky, but it's still kind of fun sometimes.

Fuck... Played a few hours... Ya, it pretty much fucking sucks ass.

You're an enabler and you should be ashamed of yourself.

This game has the ugliest textures I've ever seen.

What's the point of the guy and his daughter at the beginning of Leon's campaign. This game is bullshit.

Who thought it was a good idea to have Leon trip over zombie carcasses like a buffoon?

I'm honestly upset because the characterization and writing are fucking embarrassing.

Again dude. We get it. You hate it. Your complete attitude on here shows it. Why are you even in the OT still? Seriously, If I hate something as much as that, I'd say my piece and leave. If you want to do a write up with all the issues to get it out of your system, please do but these one lines here and there are getting ridiculous.

This is the way RE has been since RE5. The checkpoints are your progress in any particular run through a chapter. They aren't saving your progress so much as your equipment/bonuses/stats. You can continually restart from a checkpoint during a chapter, but you cannot turn off the game and come back later. Chapters are made to be done in one sitting.

It's good and bad. Depends.

Pretty much the same as DMC in that regard. Nothing new.

I'm as entitled to post my opinions on my gameplay experience as anyone else.

I'm trying to like this game. I want to like this game. But it won't fucking let me.

Of course you are, but you can go about it in a fairly coherent way. Adding single line messages bitching, when obviously these posts your spreading out could be in one lump post. The question asks... why?
Take a break from the game. Come back to it. Stop analyzing it so much? Get a friend to play co-op, maybe that will help? I don't know.

I find the game puts checkpoints in decent enough places where you can stop the game. Maybe I've been lucky because I haven't run into a problem with having to run through an area all over again.

Also, thanks Dusk Golem for posting that list of the chapters in chronological order. I've completed the first two chapters for Leon, but when I get off work, I'll start with Chris'.

In the demo, I had a hard time seeing rockets being fired. :(

There's nothing incoherent about my impressions. What's wrong with analyzing something as you're experiencing it?

It just sounds like you're in denial about the quality of this game.

If you get hit with a loading screen before a checkpoint, you can continue from there after quitting a session.

So basically, don't quit mid-game until you get a checkpoint immediately after a loading screen.

Thanks for the tip! Very useful actually, some missions are really long.

Some other tips i've gathered from
Gamefaqs
... I know this maybe were discussed here already, but here goes:

- Pressing square and r2 at the same time automatically mixes pills for you. Useful for mercenaries.

- You can do a ground dive and do a 180 aim turn if you hold back while you are diving

- When QTEs ask you to wiggle or rotate an analog stick, do it to both of them. It doubles the input and makes the events far more do-able.

- If you get knocked to the ground and press back + X before you land on the ground, you will roll and get up immediately rather than laying on the ground for a bit.

- Whenever you get tackled or clenched by a baddy, you can tap r1 as you hit the groud and shoot them off you. Thus, eliminating the qte if timed well.

As far as writing goes, after that one part with the
helicopter
, I suggest you stop expecting the equivalent of The Wire as far as writing goes and accept the fact the game is hilariously corny. There's a reason why the OT has the trope caption lol.

Spoiler for chapter 1 Leon:
I died laughing when Leon flipped the car over. Also that random truck that hit the bus sealed the deal for me.

Hey man. I got to chapter 3 on Chris and stopped. I'll be replaying Chris with my online friend since he had to bail out after Jake. I plan on streaming Ada's campaign as well. You following me on twitch.tv? if so keep an eye out later today hopefully :D

There is so much just completely unnecessary shit in this game and you can tell the overall quality suffers for it. Jake's entire campaign has like two genuinely great segments, both involving Ustanak, that could have just been put into Leon or Chris' campaigns. Then you could cut Jake out entirely and lose absolutely nothing, and probably save all of the expense it took to create those disastrous vehicle sequences of his.

Helena is a pointless character too. Should have been Sherry with Leon. Although I like Helena, she literally has no reason to even be there. The reasoning that was actually given was horseshit (like a lot of the plot), for this reason:
Simmons, the National Security Advisor, should have been able to send the alert that would have gave him the opening to kill Benford. There was no need for the elaborate scheme and kidnapping.

Shotaro Suga should generally stop writing for the series. His stories (Degeneration, Damnation, Darkside Chronicles, 6) are the absolute worst in the series, which is quite a feat since the actual standard of storytelling in the series isn't exactly high, but at least the other writers would provide explanations for things and not just throw them in and then not say a word about what they are or where they came from. The dialogue may be much better in 6, but that is more because of Just Cause Productions.

Bloating the game with garbage killed any chance it had. Moving the release date forward also did it no favors, and neither did the "lets imitate every other game" mantra. What originality BH6 has, it lost integrity over since focus was put on dramatic and massive set-pieces rather than solid gameplay.

I said GAWT DAMN!

The game takes itself too seriously for me to be able to enjoy its "corniness".

Now you've made Chris sad.

Haha yeah even Leon was getting impatient, which no doubt mirrored many a gamer (including me) where that was concerned.

Yeah, there was a lot of the characters saying "Why do we have to do this?" and "This again?" Pretty sure it's an unwritten rule of game development that you shouldn't have your characters point out how shitty the game is.

There are parts of this I'm liking, but the game is doing everything it can to make sure I don't enjoy it for too long.

Oh, and even on maximum brightness I still can't see shit. And I've reached the point in the game where zombies start grabbing you as you stomp on them. So that'll be fun.

Holy fucking tits mcgee at the Chris campaign finale.

Piers you fucking boss. First time we've seen a good guy step up to the plate with a virus in order to help even the odds. God damn I wish he didn't die though. Great character.

So good.

Now for Jake's campaign.

Btw is there more on Jake's thoughts regarding Albert Wesker?
I didn't get much satisfaction as I was hoping we'd see more of a discussion between Jake and Chris on daddy.

I think someone said it best earlier in this thread. It's like someone was drunk and came up with some of the scenes in this game. I've only started Leon's chapter, but there's five instances where I'm awestruck by the randomness of what I'm seeing.

Chapter 1 and 2 spoilers for Leon

1)
Leon tips the car over somehow. Leon and Helena end up completely surrounded by inflamed cars and are forced to go down into the sewers.

2)
When the two actually go down into the sewers, Leon grabs Helena. Cue most awkward interaction between the two so far. You could've cut that tension between them with a knife. I had no idea if he was pissed or they were going to start fucking then and there.

3)
They are in the bus as it's about to fall off the cliff. A truck HAS to come out of nowhere and hit them. Also the NPCs are literally disposable.

4)
The Deborah boss fight. I wonder if this whole event was a self-referential nod to how any named woman in Resident Evil aside from Lisa Trevor has the body of a porn star. When Deborah pins you on the ground, I knew someone in Capcom had too much fun with her model. I said "goddamn!"

5)
Leon: Grab on to something! *Leon and Helena grab each other in mid air in slowmo*

I love all this.

See and I think that's sort of the point. I just replayed 1,2, and 3 on my live stream before 6 and I couldn't believe the realism you had to toss out the window for those games. Puzzles in mansion, puzzles in the police station. Both having underground labs and access ways and obscure art. Same with dialog. "Oh barry", "Jill Sandwhich", or when Jill and Carlos jump out of the window to escape from Nemesis and Carlos says "I'm not into that pain is pleasure thing" I wanted to slap my forehead for not remember just how cheese ball and unrealistic these old games were and the new ones are just as bad in those aspects! But I still love em.

Can't say I was a fan of this.

Then again I genearlly think Helena is the most worthless RE addition since Steve Burnside. Honestly the entire Leon story was brought down because of her existence.

Then again at the start of Chap 4 Chris and I'm still kinda weirded out by the fact that this is Chris. So many things just seem weird even given the setup. Chris was always a loveable if awkward and serious dude. This though, just wow. I hope the last two chapters bring in more of the Chris I loved in RE1/CVX/5.

Stuck on the first stage of Chris's final boss. I've died like 30 times trying to complete the
dash up the circular stairway
...seems like I die at the EXACT same spot every time and I'm playing on AMATEUR. I am so frustrated! What am I doing wrong?

TGO

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
up to chapter 4 on all characters now, loving it
the monster design is some of the best in the series, and I really like Jake.

on a side note, why are people even responding to the idiots ( yes idiots, its not a opinion) dissin this game, those people are the sort who would say The Dark Knight was the worse Batman ever made, if a few critics disliked it
their mind has already been made up by the reviews, they gone in thinking everything is bad and it must be because a few critics said so, they're bloody sheep
probably the same people that followed every word IGN shitted out their mouths in 2007 about the PS3, over exaggerated bs
yes there a reason behind it, it has its flaws, RE5 did too so did RE4, but to blow it out of proportion like some have is pathetic, what is even more pathetic is this so called terrible game has had me hooked more then any release this year...minus MGSHD Collection, yet this game is terrible in ever single way........apparently

There's one piece of geometry that you need to slide under.

Hold A and the direction your running in? Left trigger to slide under the one thing you have to slide under (IIRC). You must slide or else you'll fail. Um...mash B at the part wh ere you have to throw Piers up to the ledge.

One part I thought was hiilarious in Leon's campaign was
when you save the civilian trapped under the car and the biker comes out of nowhere and perfectly lands his bike on top of the guy you were saving.

What difficulties are people playing on for a first playthrough? Is this another one of those games were 'normal' is really 'casual' and I should bump it up to start, or no?

And is there a suggested order to play through the campaigns?

Nope doesn't even do that. I quit Chapter 3 of Leon's campaign to grab something to eat only to find out I have to start the whole thing over again.
Maybe it's a glitch or something. I've stopped frequently throughout Leon's campaign every time it said saving and it's always been fine.

I just got to the first actual save point in Leon's campaign. I really hope it saved. I don't want to slowly be walking all over the place again. :/

Within 30mins of playing I took cover on a wall and fell through the level.

There are so many horrible flaws but I still can't help finding the combat options super enjoyable but I would enjoy it so much more if they could unfuck the camera.

This game has been in development forever and has none of the polish that its budget or development time would imply.

The save system is confusing since it saves the game every time you die, even though the checkpoint you are sent back to might not be a save point.

Basically, it's only safe to turn the game off if 'Saving' appears in the corner of the screen, and only if it appears when you enter a room, not if you've just died and respawned.

Curufinwe

I thought I would play with the aiming set to go in the direction the camera is facing. But then when I slide and press back I won't be able to immediately aim in that direction just by pressing LT.

So maybe setting aiming to go where the player is facing would be better.

Made a quick video showcasing some of the available abilities in the game that perhaps some had no idea about. I didn't know about the herb one till much, much later. Also about to start of my live stream of Chris Campaign.

That herb thing is on the control screen I'm pretty sure. Don't see too much of a use for it, because mixing herbs is pretty easy I'd say. Does it mix green and reds when you do it?

Yeah it mixes those as well. Yeah it's not a big deal but a lot of people didn't know about it ironically enough.

To the merc vets (Sectus!) how does one unlock the 2nd alt costumes? If they have any that is. Merc mode <3

One set is unlocked by getting A ranks with characters. Another set is unlocked via re.net and I don't know how the last set is unlocked. I suspect it may be related to events on re.net.

So the costumes in the unlockable items are different than the costumes you unlock originally? They looked similar.
