Resident Evil 8: Village |OT| Dat Atmosphere is THICC

No one is shitting on the graphics, we're just being honest. Ppl acting like this has the best next gen graphics are objectively wrong. Everyone loves the game, but some of us aren't interested in exaggerating certain aspects of it.
Thats fair. i seen many people downplaying the visuals like they were bad or ugly 😒 still if he likes the graphics more than other games on his PS5 there is nothing wrong imo, its a good version, and current gen is still very young

My point was that he'd have almost the same exact experience on his PS4, so it's not really the PS5 that's making the game look good. It looks "good" across the board on all hardware specs. I just don't understand how it's "blowing people's minds" on PS5 as if it's a completely different game.

I'm about to begin the section with my compatriot as a boss, not really into dolls\phantom horror stuff tbh but people have high praise for this part.
It was cool, but when you keep in mind that this is the type of game where you mostly just shoot things, the section loses a lot of its "power".
It's well made though, but more fitting for a different kind of game.

tbf, PS4 graphics still look pretty good when pushed, and with a good artsyle you can create some impressive visuals.features such as ray tracing, 3D Audio and the PS5 triggers are still new so people are trying them out

I really liked the graphics too even if they aren't cutting edge now, but of course RE9 and other games made from the ground up for PS5/Series specs will truly blow our minds 🤯

I mean people were salivating over TlouS part 2 last year and it was just running on an old PlayStation 4

Yeah man. Of course last gen games are going to look good to last gen users. Why would visuals for them regress when the technology is at a point they have to make new systems to use full capabilities? lol all games toward the end of a system's life cycle look good. See GTA5 for ps3

I am currently playing RE4. And I'm already at the island (at 9 hours clocked, which means its not going to take much longer than my Village run at 11 hours).

I feel the entire second half of the castle sucks. The caves, the mine cart section, the statue, the small lift with all the red cloaks. The escort stages. I didn't like it one bit. The Ashley gameplay, didn't like that much either. And do I miss the stomp attacks from RE5? yeah kinda, as right now I'm either slashing them or shooting them again.

I think RE Village is better. Its more consistent, has better pacing and better encounter design. Ofcourse there is a 17 year gap between these 2 here. But I wouldn't mind a remake changing a thing or 2 up.

is there a reshade mod to this game?
NexusMods is your friend, fellow PC fren.

Also, the FOV mod is probably the most wanted mod, but I don't want to use that until I do a second play-through.

where did you hear this info?

However, multiple sources have indicated that, following a key project review late last year, it was decided that M-Two’s role on RE4’s remake would be significantly reduced. Capcom’s Division 1 – the internal team responsible for Resident Evil and Devil May Cry games – has now been brought in to lead the RE4 project, VGC understands.

It’s believed that the disagreements that led to M-Two’s reduced role involved the studio’s desire to stick faithfully to the template of the original Resident Evil 4, partly influenced by backlash to Resident Evil 3’s remake, which did not include significant portions of the original PlayStation game, much to fans’ disappointment.

Capcom’s production team, however, is said to prefer a direction which would see RE4’s remake inspired by the original, but with its own unique take on features, story elements and environments not necessarily confined to the blueprint of the original, similar to Resident Evil 2‘s use of Mr. X.

Sources said that the Resident Evil 4 Remake would now be partially rebooted under the new mandate, which could see its release delayed by as much as a year to 2023.

Cant find the bit about it being open world. No idea where I heard that.

The House Beneviento basement is hands down the single most horrifying thing I've ever experienced in any game. You know the bit.

Havent played a RE game in like a decade.

How is the gunplay in this? How is the combat? I know its not the focus, but does it feel good? I dont want hitting/shooting feeling like a tin can toy gun. Does it feel good to kill fuckers in this?

How are the controls?

I agree, I've played RE4 so many times (I legit think I own it on every platform it came out on aside from Beemo) and yea the whole Island area could be cut and it wouldn't be missed too bad

however it does set up the more varied Enemies that are in 5, ie Las Plagas with guns,

On a side note, it was nice to see the references to 4 and 5 in Village in the notes you collect

Loved the place, shame it was so short.
Even though there was a
typewriter
nearby, it didn't offer much safety; still horrifying!

Took me around 12.5 hours to complete the game on Standard. Slow perhaps, but savoured everything. Glorius, Capcom. Thought 7 would be a hard act to follow, but you did it. Incredible level of immersion, very hard to put down.

this is what i believe its gonna happen next..
RE IX: Zoe, Mia and Rosemary teaming up with the BSAA to avenge Ethan by taking down The Connections in the epic conclusion of the WINTERS saga.Capcom is already developing REmake4 and OUTRAGE for Switch, makes total sense they would mix up another first person game as well, of course the same fanboys are gonna complain its not third person despite at least breaking a few sales records for the series, there is gonna be a healthy mix of third and first person games again this gen👍
Plans change and anything could happen , but i have a good feeling first person RE fans are gonna be served again 🤤😁

this is what i believe its gonna happen next..
Seems unlikely
RE games have always taken place in/near the year they were released, for RE9 to suddenly skip ahead 16+ years would be weird.
Also Chris went to the BSAA right away, there's no way it would take him all that time to get "answers".
So either, RE9 is somewhat after the extraction and RE10/revelations 3 picks up with Rosemary, or RE9 is with Rosemary but she has matured rapidly due to the megamycete/mold

Downloading it.

Why is it downloading both PS4 and PS5 versions? I bought it from the app and turned on my PS5 to see both versions being downloaded. I cancelled the PS4 download. Am I doing this right?

Hmm thats true it would be a little weird
Still could work with what you said, or saved for another game even if its not IX. either way i expect that epic finale some day

for some reason i didn't thought Chris was THAT old during the epilogue, if he still working at BSAA and all

Regarding the 2nd house
After you kill the puppet and have your weapons back, can you go back downstairs and kill that stupid baby. I was too much of a pussy to even attempt to go see if the elevator was still working

Does anyone know if it's true that this game was originally revelations 3?

it was originally a concept for a different game simply called The Village... at least that's what I heard. but it clearly was severely retooled to be a direct successor to RE7.

Would've finished this today if my DualSense battery didn't die in the fucking final boss fight.

does it not give you a warning? o_O

I played through the whole game with a single charge of the Xbox Play and Charge kit, and it still has 50% battery
can't relate! :messenger_sunglasses:

Okay currently I've killed the big bitch so you know where I am so click but if you don't "dada" will make sense you you
The game is so much better then RE7 but I just don't understand why they didn't just create a new IP for this?
It good but so far away from Resident Evil it's not funny.
Now I do kept seeing logos about so I'll hold my thoughts until I finish it.
But it still baffling that we know they can make a proper RE game that sell a shit load and have this as well.
Makes no sense 🙄
Anyway rant over..

Gotta love the people who come crying in here before finishing it, some without even playing it at all

Crying? The game is great so calm down
thats better then what I said about RE7 which people also said the same " haven't finished it or haven't even played it" nonsense that doesn't change anything.
I did say I haven't finished it so I will withhold my judgement, maybe it'll make sense as this does seem to hint more to RE then RE7 did.
But that doesn't change that I believe they could have made a new IP with this, it good enough to stand on it's own without the RE name.
So forgive me if I played a section that was straight up Silent Hill and thought that's not Resident Evil regardless of how good it is

It was misinformation. Village was never Revelations 3.

Dusk Golem was the first to state that RE8 started development as Rev 3, but later corrected himself saying he got his wires crossed and Rev 3 actually became Outrage (the codename for a game that was revealed in the Capcom ransomware leak back in November). However, Dusk claims Village was originally meant to be a spin off, but was bumped up to mainline statues after it got high praise from playtests.

Just finished it, took 3 days so I don't see how or why people were finishing it in 11 hours or whatever.

I definitely don't run through games like this and I tried to do everything but there was one house in the village still red and I couldn't get it it to get whatever was in it as the door was blocked.

The graphics are some if the best I've seen, especially the lighting and details in the levels.

Standard was a little too easy as I only died because I messed up not because it was hard.

I rate this top 3 resident evil games ever made.

Fingers crossed for dlc

The Borg seemed less like Resident Evil than the doll ghosts. But you still get zombies.

Bro just shut up and finish the game. No one cares about your "critiques" 1/5 into the game, especially when those of us who have finished and read that shit know exactly how dumb you sound.

It just hit Overwhelmingly Positive on Steam. That coupled with the news of 3 millions copies shipped (not counting digital) and that it had 100k concurrent players on Steam, I'd chalk this up as a big win for Capcom and the Resident Evil team. They made a great game. My one and only worry is that Capcom doesn’t learn the wrong lessons and push Resident Evil further into action. Would be ridiculous for them to repeat history after everything that happened.

Also I guess this means some of the outlier critics who dragged the game down to low/mid 80s on MC need to shut the fuck up. Greg Miller with his “skip it” take. At least SkillUp had the wisdom to praise and recommend the game, even if it wasn’t his cup of tea.

Village was always going to be a divisive game. Whether you like it or not, you gotta respect that Capcom is still taking chances and doing weird shit with their biggest franchise this far into its legacy. They could have easily just pulled out another RE7 or RE2R, and maybe more people would like that, but I'm so happy we got Village.

Meanwhile, Outrage and RE4 Remake will likely be more "traditional" RE games if Village isn't your cup of tea.

Hardcore is already pretty insane at the beginning...12 headshot to kill a simple goon?!

I had to kill enemies with my knife because i was out of bullet more than once, and those fucking lycans are too twitchy and the aim\movement system too shitty to keep up with them.
Apparently unlike the internet, i am not getting the option to drop the difficulty. Thankfully, the pistol power upgrade feel a bit better on hardcore.

I also have found a shotty blast and switch to pistol ( and maybe even knife) works not bad. Still out of ammo by the end of a multiple enemy encounter.

But this is only two segments of castle goons so far. Wish me luck. I should restart, but I keep living. The dread tho.

My review

Let's go for parts;

-Start, first encounter: bad

-Lady D and castle: Bad (3 girls u kill the same way, Lady D is a slow motion Nemesis, boss fight was...okish)

-Village was ok, nothing special.

-Doll woman: good (just cose looks like re 3.5)

-Fish guy: Good pacing and boss fight.

-Industry: REALLY BAD. All placing looks the same, stupid enemies, megazord boss fight was the worst thing i saw in a re game *OMEGALUL* *FACEPALM*

-Chris:Arcade shooter.

-Last boss: Cool but weak.

-One major twist was explained on a file on the table lol (Spencer), not even a flashback or something. I liked the file but ..!?!

-Liked about Ethan
being dead since re7.

Well this game is 4 different games in one. And not all lords places are good, it breaks the atmosphere and the pace is weird because of that. Its a rollercoaster. Gun fights are ok, not bad, not good.

Btw, all that was unnecessary, Chris is dumb!
Why he not just sent a message to Ethan phone on the begining "Ethan, its not mia, she is transformed, we will kill her and invade your home" DONE!

Rosemary in the end its just another Jake, but she needs no buff... Story repeats itself again.

Stupid game, stupid RE, well done graphics, beautiful landscapes and some nice monsters.

4.5/10

I will now buy the physical copy just for the collection, as i have all re in discs, but its a bad game.

Having played 28 hours of Village, here would be my negatives. I'm just gonna put them all in spoilers:

1. The game really needed one final area after Chris's section and you retake control of Ethan. Would've been good for the game's length, and we could've had a megamycete themed area. Also since Ethan was "dying" it would've had an emotional impact if throughout the final area, there are moments of Ethan struggling to stay alive, only pushing forward through his sheer force of will. Would've made his death more impactful. We needed some buildup towards Mother Miranda. You just wake up and you immediately go to boss fight with her.

2. First half hour of the game sucks after your first playthrough. Too many cutscenes and on rails sections. Skip, skip, skip, skip, skip, til you get to the Castle.

3. No reason not to show Ethan's face in the ending. Seeing his face when he pulls that trigger would've had a stronger impact. It just becomes distracting with how much they keep his face hidden, for really no good reason.

4. The Castle and Lady D are by far the most interesting area and villain. So it just feels weird that the Castle is the first thing you do in the game, and it's over with in an hour. If I could've redesigned this game I would have greatly expanded the Castle section, and get rid of the Swamp section entirely. Also expand the Village section, exploring it entirely before you reach the Castle. The Lycan stronghold and the big hammer guy could've been the first boss of the game. So it would go Village -> Mansion -> Castle -> Factory ->Megamycete Stronghold.

I really loved the game, and these criticisms of mine ultimately are just things that bothered me personally. But it's no big deal. This is a Top 5 Resident Evil game for me.

Then why don't you say it'll all come together when you finish it instead of being a prick? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I think I did that cause you're the type to come in here after playing 1/5th of the game to cry about how "this aint my Resident Evil! Why can't it be a separate game the story makes no sense!!!"

Prefer being a prick instead of nice to that type, oh well
