Resident Evil 8: Village |OT| Dat Atmosphere is THICC

ÆMNE22A!C

NO PAIN TRANCE CONTINUE
Just the Village, really. The Castle functions more like the RPD Station in 2 (considering the existence of Lady D/Mr X) than the Castle in 4.

And thankfully, there is no awful Island section in RE8. They made the wise decision not to repeat that mistake lol

Old ass village - Check
A Castle - Check
Boat + underwater monster - Check
Industrial Setting - Check
Lots of explosives - Check
Merchant - Check
Sniper Rifle - Check
Campy vibe - Check

Notice I said love letter, as in homage. Not a direct one on one imagining constricted by the previous setting>function partnership. If that makes sense.

Just a thought, but repeating the same thing over and over is a surefire way to begin disliking something. This applies to everything.
Ever heard of burnout? Lol. You finished the game 5 times in 5 days and are wondering why ure getting sick of it 🤣

I put the same amount of time and replays into RE2 Remake in my first week with it, and I only appreciated that game more.

Village doesn't have the great level design and smooth gameplay to fall back on, imo.

Probably because RE2 Remake is much more about resource management and route-planning.

Installments like RE4 and Village are not. I'd say they're more linear experiences. I can't even imagine ever wanting to play Village more than twice, let alone five times, especially within the timeframe you did it.

Played 5 times in a row and you found that you hated the game? Resident Evil fans are a bit weird, to say the least.

Honestly, I normally wouldn't care about crazy opinions, but I worry that all these 8/10's, "it's an average game, 6/10", "the last part was awful", "the graphics are shit", "it's not scary enough" will probably affect the direction of the franchise and might affect sales, as it seems like Metacritic, public acclaim and launch sales is fundamental for publishers investing in triple A budgets these days. Look at Days Gone.

I believe RE Village will become a classic loved by fans in the long term because the characters and setting are so striking, some of the best if not the best ever in the series, and the game is basically a modern RE4 remix. But it doesn't help if it ends up making most sales after it gets discounted.

As Lady Dimitrescu would say, be careful what you wish for. I'd hate to see Capcom - one of the last bastions of big budget single player games - not taking risks and only doing remakes from now on.

A great first half ( a solid 9) and a mediocre/bad second half (a 6 at best). Oh well, I guess I’ll keep waiting for that great RE game (non remake).

Also, the story and the protagonist suck.

I enjoyed the game alot... But I agree that the latter part of the game wasn't as good.

My few gripes were the boss battles towards the end were pretty easy and boring. I was really pumped for Heisenberg guy but ended with a meh. The doll lady and water dude was a letdown too.

Lady Dimitrescu was a really interesting villian and IMO would have been a much better main villian than mother Miranda. She should have had a bigger role in the game. I know many say this cus they have a boner for her.... But I don't even swing that way 😂.

Amazing huh?

Like gamers that played 60 hours of cyberpunk , finished it and go here saying they hated it and asked their money back 🤣
I hate that shit! I know two people that did that with cyberpunk. Beat the game and asked for their money back just because they could. Such a dick move.

I went with the PS5 version. There’s no noticeable technical advantages on XsX ( a few frames here and there ) and I have the Sony 3D Headset so Audio and controller made the decision easy to me.
That's what I decided on, the PS5 version. The controller stuff sounds really interesting. I didn't even know about that.

Resident Evil Village's first playthrough should take you eight or so hours to complete. But Resident Evil Village's replayability is off the charts. Every time you finish the game, you come out the other side with a bit more coin and Completion Points than you had before, allowing you to purchase better weapon upgrades for your next playthrough. So if you're looking to make subsequent playthrough much, much quicker, here's how to do it!

Resident Evil Village takes a lot of inspiration from Resident Evil 4, which many consider to be the best game in the series and one of the greatest games of all time. So does Village do enough to dethrone 4? Find out in this epic head-to-head battle!

0:00 Intro
2:52 Round 1: Controls
4:26 Round 2: Gameplay
7:58 Round 3: Environments
10:58 Round 4: Presentation
13:02 Round 5: Horror

17:25 Round 7: Mercenaries Mode

Guys, who plays with SteelSeries Arctis 7P? Please tell how 3D audio in them? Is it true that they support 3D audio wirelessly like Pulse 3D? I am choosing between these two right now because I hear that this is the way to play games on PS5 and especially Village. So hope you guys can help me out.

I'm about 2 hours in. First impressions are it's not scary at all, and I found RE7 really scary at the start. Visually it's gorgeous, one of the best-looking games I've played. That being said, there are some technical issues, there's a short stutter every time I kill an enemy and when the sister uses her swarm it completely tanks my frame rate. I watched the Digital Foundry video and they had the same issues so hopefully, it gets fixed.

What time is it?
Just finished. It was a good time but beyond the visuals, nothing really stands out and I think it lacks its' own identity. It takes itself a little too seriously and tonally, much like its' predecessor, it just doesn't feel like a Resident Evil game. The guns are mostly fine (maybe not the shotguns) but they don't feel like they have the punch or impact of RE4's arsenal. There are a ton of inspirations from RE4 but everything kind of misses the mark. For example, Village's take on the regenerators are dull as dishwater. Boss and goliath battles are also pretty underwhelming. The best part of VII and Village is probably the opening hours of VII. It certainly was a tonal shift for the serious but it was legitimately scary until you started building you arsenal.

I have a question - I looked at the “figure” viewer, like the models - they look better than they do in the game. Is there a reason for this?

It's weird. I played Village 5 times in a row to get as many trophies and challenges complete as possible. It was an adrenaline rush. I had the impression that I LOVED the game.

Started a new game (not new game plus) on hardcore to play it slow. I really wanted to experience the game fresh again, and.... I kinda hate it. It's so weird, but each area in this game on its own is not that great. You can directly compare each area of the game to another RE that did it WAAAY better. My mind is blown at how my perspective of this game went from super positive to thinking it may be one of the worst games in the series. It doesn't help that I was playing RE4 which really "exposes" how weak of imitation Village is.

I have a feeling as time goes on, public opinion of Village will sour. Then again, I felt the same way about RE7, and people still praise that game. Maybe I just have weird taste. Regardless, Village is a low D-tier game for me, below Dead Aim and Rev 1.
no offense meant to you but as it stands this post says a lot more about you than the game - are you diagnosed with any mental illnesses out of curiosity?

Started the game today and get through Thicc lady's castle and now i'm at the creepy dolls mansion, whoever said that Capcom made VIII less scary than 7 is a total clown.

I started with standard diffculty and i like with 7 i think the intended diffculty is Hard/Madhouse.

9/10.

Tips for fight with ......
You can put down land mines if you get frustrated during her spider phase or the dark phase. I aim for her head all the time, even when she’s far away. Pull out the sniper and when she summons that yellow orb mortar you can hide behind those pillars and shoot at her head inbetween the pillars (there’s a small slit you can see her in the middle). You won’t get hit either. I like to use the magnum during her first stage and then shotgun/pipe bombs on her spider phase. Land mines during the dark phase or use the grenade launcher to knock her out of that stage. If she goes back to spider then I’ll use land-mines/pipe bombs and then sniper and whatever I have left. If she summons those darker orbs around her, you can either shoot them or hit her hard enough to knock her out of that stage. You can actually finish her off pretty quickly if you’ve got a magnum maxed out. I’ve finished the game 3 times so far. Those would be my tips.

just beat her on hardcore and man she just tanked all my magnum shots. fight went on forever.

had my stake at 2500 damage so maybe thats why but i had 19 shots going in and only missed a couple. barely made a dent. ended up using several grenade launchers, and a good 2 dozen shotgun shots. i dont remember her being that tanky on normal.

on my NG+2 run now with infinite ammo sniper and grenade launcher. its so much fun lol. the sniper is so much fun to use.

yea, the difficulty spike is definitely noticeable on hardcore. That was how it went down for me too. My last playthrough was Hardcore. The STAKE is much more impactful once you max it out or get it up to 4000. When she does her dive while in spider form, I’d just put a land mine down and run out of her way. She would run into it, which let me reload. I also blocked a lot more. If she hits you while diving, it automatically takes your life down to critical red. With the shotgun, I would run up to her and try and blast her face. It would be interesting to see how much actual HP she has in each difficulty. I want the STAKE with infinite ammo for Village of Shadows difficulty. I started it and it’s maybe 1 or 2 hits before you have to heal.

Just completed the game. It was insane. Hilarious shit. Loved it. It‘s like RE6 but with good gameplay and a riddiculus story at DOESN‘T take itself too seriously.

Level design was all over the place. It feels like the devs took all their wild ideas and then mashed everything together while having a beer and laughing their asses off. I literally burst out laughing at the tank section. Fucking amazing!

I‘m usually not one for this kind of insanity but since the game pretty much starts off like this and never even pretends to be something else I just went along with it.

Bosses were amazing too. The only thing I didn‘t dig too much was the very final boss and the short sequence before that. Aside from that this game was super fun though. Couldn’t say if it‘s better or worse than 7. Would‘t probably say the same level and hence a 9/10.

That being said I can‘t wait to see where Capcom is taking the series next. I mist be one of the few who loves how much they keep changing things. My favorite series. Never gets boring. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

I played Village and 4 back to back and I disagree with that video. RE4 is still fun but it pissed me off at the same time. The controls are horrible nowadays, but after the village chapters the game takes quite a hit. The castle isn't much different from the village, the enemies are the same but cloaked. And they shoot more projectiles which doesn't work well in this game. Then the Island proves that 4 goes on for too long. Its the same combat loop, now with more projectiles towards you, in a rather bland environment. The Regenerators are sort of a good twist, but I think there are like 5 of them. The locations are very not scary. Its all the same layouts and music will kick in revealing enemies will come for you. Village's escape room is more terrifying than anything in 4.

All Ashley babysitting isn't good nor fun. Her gameplay stage is useless. QTE's were and are shit. The on rail sections such as the mine carts and truck I hated.

Village felt more consistent, mixes it up at a quicker pace, has some side tracking to do. But in the end I prefer the likes of RE2R, which feels different with each run because of the way its structured.

You may be right about the burn out, honestly. I do have criticisms of Village that I feel are legit, but I'll let the game settle a bit more. I've obsessed over the game this last week to a point where it's kind of embarrassing haha

Ok I got lightsaber. I managed to SSS every stage in mercenaries beside Castle (ez version, gonna SSS it later).

I even got lucky and managed to finish last stage of Mad Village II with killing the boss and getting SSS (got an video, can upload later) .

But the factory... Oh fuck the factory levels. Both easy and hard versions were really hard with exreamlly tight spots and maneuvers to get full combo. None of the skills really help there much.

My tips - I recommend disabling Adaptive Triggers for hard versions.

For easy versions on each level just use the last handgunk(the one for 30k), it kills things faster than shotgun or sniper. Also sell everything including meds because you will not need it on first 4 stages. Upgrade att speed once and go full damage upgrade. On second stage get last speed upgrade (0.1s) - it's broken and pump dmg. You might have problems with bullets if you spray too much so try aiming well. Most stuff dies in 3 shoots anyway. Also try to remember where handgun bullets are. You gonna need them anyway on hard versions.

For hard versions be wary of any speed buffs and especially slow motion. I found that if you get slow motion enemies sometimes won't be able to reach their spots on time thus break your combo.

Always carry 2-3 healing items. Especially on stages with archers, they are a big pain in the ass.

Keep Magnum for bosses and big enemies but try not to use it on Soldats (guys with drills). The way to deal with Soldats is either by barrels or one Granade launcher shoot and finish up with pistol .

In Factory level to get ful combo you need to have 1 pipe bomb and 2 mines (or 3 mines) - in the almost final section where full-armored dude is throw pipe bomb and finish him of with magnum. For the airplane-engine dude just plant two mines.

For a factory level you have enough Magnum bullets to get full combo but you can't miss any magnum shot. You might get lucky and kill 2 sisters in one shot but it's pure luck.

For factory stage 2 get Granade launcher and try to get to the end.

And mad village stage 3 is absolutely hardcore. You should have there both the magnum and Granade launcher. Just try to get to the finish. I rushed last section (inside stronghold) with shooting flash bangs everywhere until I reach goal. Just be sure to kill 25 enemies early in the stage because later it will be super hard. You also need to get full combo as stage 1 which is super easy and almost full combo as stage 2. Stage 2 only problems are 2 Soldats (you can buy pipe bombs for them) and archers. I personally skip archers because it's hard to keep combo there and there is a high chance that they will kill you.

Good luck xD

Such as? Just curious.
OCD or others with obsessive qualities, addictive personality - which I have btw. There are others with obsessive qualities - But I am not positive which mental illness causes this particular thing other than I assume it coexists with those two. It can result in a very similar situations/behavior.

I do fine. I genuinely have done what you’re describing several times, with many different things - I’m just saying it sounds similar, to elaborate it’s like you’re SUPER into something for a bit and then you experience a sudden repulsion that is almost as strong negatively as you were initially positive about it.

I wanted to come in and pour out nothing but positivity about this game. I had a blast and enjoyed all of it. I hope people on the fence buy it right away. Next game should be 3rd person imo, but 7 & 8 were such great games. Especially for being in 1st person perspective.

Yeah I should’ve phrased it differently, I just use “mental illness” to blanket describe my various stuff but I know everyone probably isn’t comfortable with that terminology. For that I apologize sometimes I don’t translate well online

I finished it and I felt a pretty much extreme sense of "meh". It was ok. I really just don't like First Person RE. I couldn't help but think all the time how much better the combat would be if it was third person. The game wants to be more action-focused and have a lot more spatial awareness like RE4. But you move pretty slow even with the quick turn, so it just becomes press the block button a lot. So it doesn't really feel all the tense. Gunplay felt ok and the different areas were all pretty solid.

The story was shit even for RE standards. I never finished RE7 because it was in first person, but it seemed like such a radical departure from previous RE games and well pretty well written....In a sense that dialogue felt more natural and it seemed knowingly tongue and cheek. Here it's just lame. The premise is stupid. The characters are stupid. It tries to be serious at the end, but Ethan is a nothing character. it feels like it's trying to appease fans like me who weren't interested in RE7, but tow the line with what RE7 did. Doesn't surprise me that RE* bombed in Japan, the series feels like b level American crap now.

I don't know, I rather play RE3 Remake.

Just finished the game gotta say it was amazing. One of the best games Ive played in recent years and one of my Favourites in the series.
Ive been a big fan of RE since the originals on Playstation. And this was one favourites since RE1 Remake on the Gamecube.

All the Metroidvania level design and tense horror made it feel very classic RE. With the right amount of action

Loved it, well done Capcom and the team

Finished it on Friday. It’s solid. Not great, not terrible. I enjoyed the story a lot more than 7, and how it tied up and connected it with the overall franchise story.

This was the best resident evil game ever made. (not counting raid mode from revelations 2)
I can not say enough how fucking good the boss fights are and what a master class over level design this has been.
Seriously underrated as hell. And returnal can go fuck itself being priced 80 euro's and this game being 60. Absolute disgrace.

I rarely want to play a game again after i finish it.. This game is one of them

Resident Evil Village has fascinating villains who will attempt to rip Ethan's face off. Dave explores what we know and the lore behind Alvina Dimitrescu, Donna Beneviento and Angie, Salvatore Moreau, Karl Heisenberg, and of course, Mother Miranda. It's time for some Resident Evil Village Lore.

Early on in Resident Evil: Village, Ethan is thrown into the wolf’s den, and you get a glimpse of the Lords who await you. I was immediately intrigued by their design and wanted to know more - especially after waking up with a creepy doll in my face. So, here is the lore of Resident Evil: Village’s main villains.

It’s important to start with Miranda and the Cadou, as her tale will help explain the rest of the four lords.

Alcina Dimitrescu was the 181st subject who Miranda experimented on, and as Miranda herself notes, her Cadou Affinity was “Most favorable.”

Was able to get S or SS on every Mercenaries stage but Factory II. Fuck that level. It took me forever on the normal difficulty, but I just can't do it on the harder difficulty. I said screw it and used a Trainer. Hate cheating, but I also don't want to waste any more time on it.
