The game looks perfect on my 40" bravia, definetly not washed out.
Awesome, thanks! After I get through the Gears 3 campaign on Insane, I think I'll do a run through on RE4 again. Recently tried to 100% Mercs on the 3DS, and it really got me itching to play the campaign again.

I'd pay another $15 for co-op play.

Your TV is using the overscan region then.
I also wished they had the option to move the picture left/right and up/down not only the overscan option.
Following the information and getting the yellow bars visible on screen gets me a small black border on the right side.

Oh and aiming with the left analog, feels very strange, after playing all new games using the right analog ^^

Black borders? Mine doesn't have black borders and I haven't adjusted anything...

Do you have the ps3 or 360 version? I talked to two people who downloaded the PS3 version and both said they didn't see any borders.

Wonder if they adjusted the default border differently on each system, thinking the average 360 owner is more likely to have overscan maybe?

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.

No borders here.

Hey, here's a dynamite question: When an enemy lights their dynamite and then you shoot them, preventing them from throwing it, shouldn't it eventually explode in their hand? I just saw this happen in the QuickLook, but when I was playing last night, they just held the lit dynamite for a really long time. I'm playing the PS3 version.

I notice those black borders in HD ports (both God of War collections are the only ones I have tried so far) and now RE4. I thought that was normal, but apparently not?

So, I have to adjust my screen to make them go away? Would that stretch the image?

GOW collection has a toggle in the options, GOW origins has a slider for screen size. If you are seeing black borders, you should adjust your options. Your TV is probably already set to full pixel/just scan/whatever-it's-called mode. The in-game options scale the image proportionally, no stretching.

Yep, my TV is set to Just Scan. Thanks for the response.

It's weird that these HD ports are the only games that give me black borders by default.

I'm not sure what the game's logic there is, but I've seen the same thing in other versions. Sometimes they explode, other times I shoot them in the leg several times and they keep getting up while that fuse burns.

So far for me it hasn't exploded unless I make them fall down.

Sooo..The 360 version is the one to prefer then?
Can the difference be that big? I´m a PSN+ member and half the price is not bad but I would really wanna have the "best" version (PS3 or 360) =P

Think it just comes down to controller preference.

Ah, yes, you're using a CRT for your main rig. That has always been an issue with CRTs. On a flat panel, you would never need to move the image left or right as it will always be perfectly centered by design. With CRTs, however, there can be variations in where the image is drawn. You can usually solve this via service mode, which is nice.

My Sony CRT has been tweaked fully in the service menu so that everything is properly centered. Of course, you still have blooming and geometry issues to deal with, so you can never get it to look perfect.

I still haven't heard if the Type II controls on the PS3 use R1 or R2 for Fire. Usually, people get pretty mad if a PS3 shooter forces them to use R2 to shoot instead of R1.

It's R1.

Are these guys just incredibly forgetful or? He claims he played through the game on every other platform, and yet they seem completely unaware of the most basic mechanical aspects like the fact that yellow herbs increase your health bar and head\leg shots stagger enemies.

This is exactly why I couldn't be in the industry. I honestly think this is what happens when you CONSTANTLY play a fuck-ton of games for YEARS. You just won't retain details with everything.

and the PC version wishes it had the GameCube environments. one of the reasons the mod community leapt on RE4 on PC was because it was the inferior PS2 version. if i remember correctly, one of the first mods was to give the PC version the gamecube textures.

I'm pretty sure one of the first mods was the lighting because SourceNext sucked balls.

Damn this thread went by pretty fast while i'm redoing my PC. Will most likely get these on PSN later tonight even though this port sucks! I'm a diehard RE fan though :p.

That has to be it. The only other explanation is that they lie about actually playing the games, and I don't think that's the case. Brad wasn't too bad in this one, but go and watch the Shadow of the Colossus quick look if you want to really rage...his lack of knowledge of the grip meter was appalling, and this is coming from someone who only played about ten minutes of SotC.

I think they just play so many games that they all become a blur to them.

Oh, and I should say I love the GB guys, they sound like they'd be a blast to hang out with.

Had a chance to try this out on the 360 and also played the Wii version afterward.

I think the difference is significant enough. Maybe Capcom lazily ported this for a quick cash-in, but the HD does make a difference. Playing on the Wii afterward was horrible. It might look a little better on a standard TV, but who has those anymore. I played with component cables and I just can't see myself going back to it anymore.

The Wii-mote controls kept me playing the game, but I ultimately lost interest. But I think the HD graphics would keep me playing through the game again.

I say it's worth the purchase.

Did Leon contract Parkinson's or something? Why does the laser wobble all over the place when aiming? Playing on PS3 and I don't remember this in the original.

The unsteady laser sight has been there since the GC original, but you may find it more noticeable using the Dual Shock 3 since the left analog stick is not as good as the left stick on the GC pad.

There's also this:

Being Leon's starting weapon, the player receives it for free, but it can also be purchased from the Merchant for 8,000 ptas, and it takes up 6 spaces in Leon's inventory (3x2). The Silver Ghost costs 198,000 ptas to upgrade, and when fully upgraded, has a resale value of 103,750 ptas.

It is the handgun with the most unsteady aiming in the game. Since it is officially the first gun Leon uses in the story, the unsteadiness seems to point to Leon's nervousness when he first enters the village.

It's always been there on the stick versions. One of the things the Wii version removed which, for better or worse, could be considered part of the balance on the stick versions.

I've just started playing Seperate Ways. I forgot how much I actually hate it.

It's definitely the same. And it doesn't wobble THAT much...now I'm curious, though. Gonna stick a laser pointer on a gun tonight and see if I can do better in real life. :)

I haven't been able to play it with high sound volume yet but I read complains about the muffled audio. could this be Capcom trying to make the game size as small as they can? I know I complain a lot. I am liking the high res look and have fun playing it again but man Capcom disappoints me.

The GB guys (and video game journalists in general) seem to 'forget' an awful lot about games they have played before.

The file size seems about right, if they slimmed it down they didn't save much space.

It's always had muffled audio.

WTF?! No CVX HD released yet. Capcom once again shows how they couldn't care less about old RE fans.

EDIT: I see now, that it's in the OP, but it still pisses me off.

I guess you can't read can you?

From the OP

•NA PS3 - September 27, 2011 (Resident Evil Code: Veronica X)
•NA 360 - September 27, 2011 (Resident Evil Code: Veronica X)

Edit: I see you saw the OP but I don't see how it would piss you off if it's been announced it's out next week for a while now.

Actually I didn't know about the different release dates, and I was eagerly waiting to get to play CVX in HD. Couldn't care less about RE4. It just pisses me off, that the fans of the new RE are served before the fans of the old.

Been playing PS3 Code Veronica, random thoughts:

Thanks to the new lighting, the game looks pretty different. There seems to be a fuzzy filter over the screen. The further away Claire is, the blurrier she becomes. Not sure if this is better or worse than the more sterile look of the Dreamcast version.

Having the lighter equipped really highlights the shadows, looks nice. Some of the textures are showing their age though - Steve's clothes, and the portraits in the Private Residence for example. Unlike RE4, the text and menu's are sharp and clear. no custom soundtracks - big surprise there.

Nice, RE 1-3 are half off too. If I subscribe to PSN+ and then don't renew it, I won't be able to play them correct? If that's still the policy then I'll just buy RE 1 and 2 since I bought 3 already.

make sure the pudding isn't too soggy but that just ruins everything
So I just bought RE4HD on PSN... because I apparently have some kind of DD impulse buying problem... but um... what exactly did I buy?

Does this come with the extras and stuff. Like, the last screenshot showed Ada (whose mission I never played on GC) and I immediately hit "buy" before my brain computed what I was doing. lol

Are there extra costumes and all that on the PSN HD version?

Good question. I'd like to know this as well.

I added $20 to PSN about to pull the trigger. I beat RE4 a while back on PS2. I've never played it since. So the game should be fresh in my mind.

Again PS+ is a complete fail for me. I previously purchased RE 1-3 on PSN... Great deal, poor timing,

Thanks for the info. Can't wait to play the game for the fourth time. =)

BTW, why would you want custom soundtracks for a game like Resident Evil?

Extra costumes will be DLC next week. With color options for $1.99 in two weeks
