pre-Alpha, according to the rumor. But it certainly points towards a release in time for the 2008 Holidays, right on Insomniac's normal release schedule over the past several years.

If it WAS in alpha right now, we'd be looking at a Spring release date.

Not necessarily, though given Insomniac's inhuman efficiency, you're probably right in their case. Going into Alpha they could still end up finding through focus testing that they need to rework significant portions of the game. Being feature complete going into Alpha doesn't guarantee that features won't change.

But I wanna play the 32/40 player maps instead of the 16p maps I WANT SEX NOT MASTURBATION.

Yeah - we don't get those maps on ranked TDM or Objective. Actually, Objective games period don't appear to be working well.

I want the new maps too, but I sincerely doubt we'll be playing them often. Too many people without them = old free maps only. :(

Insomniac has to at least consider dropping the price of the first map pack so that more people will pick those up.

I always thought $8 was too much. For as much as I play any more, I don't think I'd spend more than 5 though. I think if it's any more than that, it's a lot more likely that they're going to discourage a large number of people.

Map packs don't work for ranked unless a critical mass of users download it. Trying to play objective when everybody in the party has the map pack almost never works because it's looking for a map pack game with another large group of people that doesn't exist. :(

otake

Doesn't know that "You" is used in both the singular and plural
I will only buy them if they are used in ranked matches.

btw- WTH happened last weekend? I was on for hours yet no one from gaf was on. have we moved on?

I don't think so, there was a good number last night, I think there's an overall gaming lull, barely anyone played Warhawk over the weekend to.

That Surfer girl is at it again!

"The levels in Resistance II, in order which they occur, are: Iceland (features Mech boss battle), U.S. Shoreline*, U.S. Defenses* (boss battle in which you defend Big Berthas), San Francisco (takes place at a college, boss battle against a lot of Titans), Redwoods* (boss battle against a bunch of stalkers), Logging Camp*, Farmtown U.S.A., Badlands* (boss battle against a bunch of Goliaths), Chicago* (boss battle against a Leviathan), Louisiana and Mexico* (Chimeran fleet cover the Yucatan). The game ends with the portal opening through which the "true chimera" arrive and the last line in the game is "oh, shit..." Asterisks indicate multiplayer maps."

Personally I don't believe any of it. Not unless it comes from JS.

U.S. Defenses* (boss battle in which you defend Big Berthas)

IF true, please no escort missions. kthx

Escort missions need to die in a fire.

Podcast is coming this week. Maybe we'll hear something new. Since Ted Price already blabbed about map pack 2, I hope they have something else to talk about. Otherwise, disappointment-ton. :(

This is kind of of topic but did anyone remember a couple podcasts ago the Insomniac guys said they've got something new that they are working on and it's not Ratchet and it's not Resistance..... Maybe a PSN game?

Does anyone remember hearing that on there podcast?

I would gladly buy the new map pack but I still feel kinda burned from the first one. The two maps were great, but I rarely got any games with them as few people seem to have bought them as well. Now with COD4 out, Resistance's dedicated fan base is probably lower than when map pack #1 came out.

So I just started playing Resistance a week or two ago and finished it today (just in time for CoD4, which I also picked up today). Awesome game. It got a liiiitle repetitive at times since you were mostly fighting the same type of Chimera and sticking to the same two weapons (due to limited ammo for the fancier guns), but overall, a very impressive and fun title (even a year after it's release).

I was never much of a FPS fan, but all these quality games are really winning me over. Can't wait for Resistance 2 now.

So is it worth playing though a second time to check out the new weapons? The guy I borrowed it from is probably going to want it back sooner or later :)

I just bought a PS3 and rented Resistane but so far Im kind of indifferent about it. The guns are fun and the combat is generally ok but it just seems kind of bland to me. Im getting to the point where blasting an alien with 30 bullets untill they fall down doesnt capture me like it used too.

QFMFT.

DIE DIE the only game EVAH to nail escort missions is RE4, and even then there were some bits that piss you off FPS games would be just plain horrible for this crap.

I ****ing hate escort missions The Translator part on Titan mode in God of War II I'm looking at your ****ing ugly **** face you wanker.

Those were actually my first impressions after the initial "Wow PS3!" factor wore off when I first played it upon release last year. I got pretty tired of playing hide and seek behind boxes all the time with the AI.

When I actually sat down with it for a few days and started seriously playing, it clicked. And once you start getting the more original weapons the game really opens up since you're not limited to only having 2 at a time, you can approach areas differently and at times let the weapon do all grunt work for you.

I guess it helps that I don't really play FPS games often (I believe CoD4 is the first I actually bought, unless you count the Metroid Prime games...) and didn't get my alien blasting fill in games like Halo.

Edit: Oh wait, I bought Timespitters: Future Perfect for $9 at EB last summer, so that was the first FPS game I ever actually bought.

You should all avoid reading that crap if you value the story.

Who exactly is Surfer Girl?

And if true, why are all the bosses normal enemies in the first game.

From Brain Hastings (Insomniac):

"The amount of action we're able to put on the screen at 60 frames per second really dwarfs what we were able to do a year ago at 30 frames per second...I think we'll see just as big a leap from our second generation engine to our third as we did from the first to second."

"I think we're going to continue seeing major leaps each year in what people are able to do with the machine for at least three or four more years."

Sounds great, but for what ever reason 60 fps shooter make me motion sick (ei Time splitter). I'd rather see more at 30, no matter how much 60 gives

Honestly, after playing the 2nd level of Ratchet tools of destruction, I'm scared as to what resistance 2 is going to look like.

it will be amazing, both graphics and gameplay.

I don't want 60fps, I want a rock-solid 30fps with self-shadowing, dynamic shadowing, HDR and shader effects turned up to level ereven.

just started playing this game (single player). is there no god damn run button? this is slow as fuck. the game is alright but it's a huge step back for me coming off half life 2 (which i just finished)

maybe it will get better, i'm only about an hour in.

Yeah they should have included a run button especially since there is one in the MP. I actually constantly try to push L2 while playing the campaign.

Theres a run button, but only for miltiplayer.

Resistance does have launch title syndrome, but there's deffently some Wow moments and hectic battles.

wait till you reach the level Manchester, that level still to this day will go down as one of my favourite levels in a fps. Its choatic, its loud, and it feels like your really fighting some bad ass mother fucking race.

that level rivals anything in cod4 IMHO ( tho overal cod4 is technicly the better gane).

keep playing dude it gets shit load better, and for comparison i find the campaign in resistance better than halo 3.

take that for what its worth.

campaign in halo 3 was ok. half life 2 destroys it though. i would call HL 2 the greatest single player FPS of all time but im just one man!

anyhow im going to hop online too to play some games. seems like there is a pretty big online community.

lack of sprint is definitely annoying at some parts. especially since Hale gets 'infected' by the chimera, you'd think there would be other side effects rather than just health regen. I hope they dont play it so safe with R2.

Check out the Resistance Thread in the online section. We have a few people on every night, but we have clan nights Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. I'll be on in about an hour, and there should be a few ofr the core clan members if you want to join in. Send an ingame message to EfertLisDotCom, he should be leading the party. If not, send one to me, I;ll be on

From the IGN article:

Map Pack 2 is coming for Resistance by the end of November.

2 new maps fully scalable and all gameplay modes supported: $4.99

Price is right!

Hopefully they incorporate it in the game straight away with same functionality as Map Pack 1. Also, with a higher frequency of Map Pack 2 maps selected (with MP1 second).

Seriously...

Let's sum this up real quick:

1. The jump from Resistance to Ratchet was fucking HUGE!
2. Ratchet is arguably the best looking game ever made.
3. Insomnic are claiming they'll be an equally huge jump from Ratchet to Resistance 2 (Assuming that will be their next game).

Or ... in one sentence:

Resistance 2's graphics will blow away the graphics of the best looking game to date.

I know I'm excited!

I doubt Resistance 2 will 'look as good' as Killzone 2 because their engine focus is elsewhere. While KZ2 probably will support twenty characters on screen I'm expecting a far larger number from R:FoM2. I think you will see multiplayer upped from 40 to 60 (with vehicles added as rumored by SurferGirl). I think the game will throw all kinds of crazy stuff at you and therefor the engine will have to be able to support all of this so they can't go into the finer detail KZ2 focuses on. They will both probably be equally technically sound but there's a base concept difference.

yea i agree, im expecting resistance 2 to push more geomety and characters on screen, in the end i bet they will both be the benchmark for next gen graphics.

After seeing what the guys at Insomniac pulled off with Ratchet at 60fps, I don't doubt they'll get a beautiful looking Resistance 2 running 60fps, and maybe even native 1080p.

As for the rumour, I wouldn't be surprised if it were true.

The Halo FPS franchise is done with (for now) and the general populace is going to be looking for an heir. What better time for Sony and Insomniac to go into overdrive trying to make it the best multiplayer experience out there? Resistance was just as good, if not better, IMO, than Halo 2 online; I don't see any reason why Resistance 2 couldn't be a better online experience than Halo 3.

TTP

Have a fun! Enjoy!
As I'm sure Insomniac will deliver on the technical side with Resistance 2, I hope they focus on the gameplay and try to push that as much as they can by not just adding new, exotic weapons, but rather via some brave game design.

Now this is probably the last game that makes sense to mention in this Resistance thread, but Super Mario Galaxy shows right from the very beginning an incredible amount of cool new ideas, things to do, details to take note of, an NONE of these are wiimote related. The execution comes via the wiimote of course, but the ideas per se are perfectly adoptable whatever the control method. I'm seriously impressed by everthing in this game. How everthing matters on a gameplay level. Nothing is just there for nothing. Those bouncing spherical green alien plants, for example, are just genius and joyful to play with. Anyway...

I know Insomniac (as well as Mark Cerny) keep Nintendo (and Miyamoto) productions in hi regard as Spyro and R&C series kinda followed the steps of Mario 64 better than any other game of the same genre, so I hope they apply a bit of that Nintendo-thinking to their new Resistance IP as well, even if most of the inspiration the industry has to offer in the genre is anything but Nintendo branded (well, with the exception of Metroid Prime).

In any case, whatever they do with Resistance 2 I know I'll be pleased anyway. Just try to be innovative behind the weapons.

So, according to the podcast, January 17th is the day that we hear what's next from Insomniac and what Ted's been working on.

Mark your calendars for the apocalypse because it's coming. :D:D:D

Also, don't be posting that R2 rumor shit in here, especially if it's not spoiler tagged. Nobody wants to hear it unless it comes from Insomniac.
