jstevenson: are you guys aware of the amount of feedback and background noise we get when playing Resistance? In very large groups the amount of noise is pretty bad. There's a lot of echoing (likely user error). Is this something you guys or Sony is aware of or working on perhaps? It would go a long way toward making communication easier.
A lot of people use really nice bluetooth headsets with the PS3 and if the sensitivity is set anywhere near max you can hear EVERYTHING. I can sit there saying nothing and holding my breath and my mic icon will still constantly flash if I have the volume set to 5 on the PS3.

Well, I hate to make the Xbox Live comparison but I guess I have to. Mic quality on Xbox Live is vastly superior to what we have now on the PS3. I rarely get any kind of feedback (unless someone is using a wireless which introduces a buzzing, which is a design flaw) and peoples' voices are just a lot clearer, and free of background noise. I almost never hear what's going on in other peoples houses. I never hear crying babies. Sometimes I'll hear someone BLASTING their music (can't fault the headset for that). I talked with LJ through voice chat in the XMB the other night and things were much clearer, but in-game voice chat quality really needs to be addressed.
The bluetooth microphones we're all using on the PS3 have two slight disadvantages.
First, they are very low power devices for obvious reasons. They were designed to work with a cellphone that it right next to them and they have TINY batteries.
Second, they were designed to work in all kinds of inclement conditions while being mobile. They certainly have more levels of sound processing to reduce wind noise and to eliminate some other background noise issues. It's much more than just band gap filtered at the human voice frequency.
Microphones designed specifically for a home console don't have these rigid requirements outside of simple voice frequency passing and maybe a very weak filter to reduce some background noise and breathing. It's just a bit easier.
I honestly don't know how much a difference this makes, but it must make some. People are quick to knock bluetooth, but the primary problem with bluetooth that I've seen is underpowered, ultraportable devices that just don't have enough gain to their signal. Still, overall I'm happy with my Logitech Mobile Traveller headset on my PS3 and cellphone.

Yes USB seems to be the way to go, only problem I've had is that it's stopped letting others hear me after awhile. Simple unplug and reconnect fixes that though.

Speak for yourself dude, my HS820 ****ing rocks in quality perfect with my v710 <3.
Also dudes, do I have to always register my headset when I alternate between the PS3 and my cell phone? It seems that when I link one, the one link is invalid until I sync up again. Perhaps I'm doing something wrong?

I said I was happy with my Logitech. I simply listed technical reasons why a mobile bluetooth headset doesn't make for an IDEAL console headset. It doesn't mean you can't make a good, quality headset that sounds good. If I was a designer building a headset for the PS3 and the PS3 only, I would remove some of the filtering on a mobile device, increase the battery size, and increase the gain on the amplifier to the antenna. I would also try to make it utilize some of the controller bluetooth API so you can check the battery level on the screen along with (and just like) the controller. I would also have it charge from a standard USB Type-B mini cable.
And yes, I too have to re-register my device over and over again between my cellphone.
If you watch Ben's Bargains, occasionally bluetooth headsets pop on there for less and $10. I might get a second.

oh ok good post dude, I haven't actually tested my PS3 headset out on well....the PS3. So perhaps you could be right, I'm speaking about my phone. I'll be testing it out sunday with you dudes.
*totally un-related but not all together, how do you make the PS3 stop autostarting your games .

blowing up the tower with all the angels flying around trying to kill you along with the other Chimera was ****ing awesome
the game really is one of the best console FPSs in a while. I am glad that
Hale didn't kill himself when the black ops found him, I was worried that in the sequel you would be someone else now I can hold out hope that they continue the story as Hale. Also it is pretty cool that you see those Black Ops people all around dead and just assume they are fight the war not coming after you. It is also pretty cool that the Chimera are forced out of the UK meaning that there will be new locations in the sequel and that it will likely be the humans on the offensive
Without a doubt my favorite part had to be the
battle to hold off the 2 stalkers and 1 widowmaker while they are blowing the bridge
Also did anyone else
think holy shit look at all those Angel cocoons they are all going to ****ing hatch and attack me when you are climbing the tower

I went around and killed every angel (since one of the intel reports stated that angels should be the top priority regardless of other enemies) and killed the other chimera while waiting for the next angel. It was a fun firefight, but when it was over I was able to casually walk around and shoot all the bars on the reactor, rather than trying to destroy the bars during a major firefight. It seemed as if it was meant to be done without killing everyone and probably would have been a bit more dramatic.
i was down to one bar of health as the last rod was opening. There was an Angel directly in front of me, but i just ignored it as i blasted away at the rod. Finally, the rod burst and the game was over. Intense.
The ending cutscene was satisfying, but it seems like the story could go in a lot of different directions, which is good and bad. Theres definitely some emotional ties between Parker and Hale that never got a chance to grow.
Ted Price has said a few times that Nathan Hale is just one person in a greater story, and i'm not sure how I feel about that. While he doesn't have the immediate recognition of Master Chief or Kratos, Insomniac do a great job giving him a personality without him saying much. His facial expressions really make an impact especially when he
sees the humans locked up in the 2nd level
or when he
blows the first Angel to smithereens
or as he's
deciding whether to pull the pin
. I would really like to see more of the character, but i suspect he won't be the central role going forward.
To Insomniac: great job guys, looking forward to the next one for sure.
Ok I have 2 questions
1) Is the title Resistance refering to
Hale specifically as being resistant to the virus
or is talking about the fight? Or both?
2) Did
Cartwright die? I know they say they found his daughter at the end but they never mention him.
Also I started replaying the game last night and I like the Reaper. I was worried about it cause I never really understood how it controlled but I must say it is pretty freakin cool to be able to target 2 different things at once. I wish it was in the multiplayer match (specifically breach and meltdown) as it could add a lot if you could try to take out a reactor and defend yourself at the same time and take out 2 people at once when defending.

Yeah I really think though they should move the game into Europe
now that the Chimera have been wiped out in the UK putting the humans on the attack instead of defensive
. Going into places like Paris and Berlin could be cool. But at the same time
they could go in the direction that the Chimera were digging or something so important in the UK that now they will send in everything to get it
Sorry if i missed something but what about the international online play?
Ive us system , us game but living in Eu...now everythings fine but will i ever be able to play with some of my friends there (theyre gonna have PAL system)
he encounters the tower at Cheddar Gourge? and therefore shouldn't he have had a reaction to the tharp field assuming there is a history of humans being effected by it? Is it possible that Cartwright has a resistance similar to Hale's he just doesn't know it cause he hasn't been actively infected yet?
I have another question about Cartwright. In the morse code on the last page it says:
wasn't Cartwright with Hale when
he encounters the tower at Cheddar Gourge? and therefore shouldn't he have had a reaction to the tharp field assuming there is a history of humans being effected by it? Is it possible that Cartwright has a resistance similar to Hale's he just doesn't know it cause he hasn't been actively infected yet?
Oh I don't know I just assumed it was some form of defense field that hurt humans to protect the towers.
now that I think about it that theory doesn't makes sense because of the humans in the tower at the ending battle
The reapers are pretty great upclose, although I would still prefer the rossmore L1 ftmfw, nothing like a blue bullseye-carrying elite trying to rush you and you have the rossmore right there ready to hit him with the L1.
Regarding this weekends scheduled matches (7pm PST Saturday/Sunday). I'm going out of town and it looks like I won't have a internet connection so I won't be able to shout out the call to you guys when meet up approaches. If you guys could remind each other and repost the PSN tag list or something that would have been helpful. Happy fragging.

I'll post it, also I never posted in the thread asking for an invite as kaching had said to send him pms by that point so I'll add myself to the list at the same time
I'm on but I want to play with teh clan (and to test out my 32" Bravia... yeah yeah I might get a 40" 1080p for the living room later but the triny in my bedroom has expired and I needed a small replacement).
