Retailers, AIBs, and System Integrators warn of GeForce RTX 50 series to have worst shortages and delays worldwide from any launch

NVIDIA made several mistakes during the announcement of the RTX 50 series. Board partners were unable to prepare stock before the end of the year because the company failed to provide the final BIOS on time. Now, it seems the supply situation is not improving, with the RTX 5080/5090 launch on January 30 described as “the worst in terms of availability.”

This sentiment is being echoed by multiple sources, including PowerGPU, a gaming system integrator. They have stated that gamers should be prepared for RTX 50 shortages to potentially last for up to three months.

representative for ZOTAC Korea has also confirmed a delay in the availability of RTX 5090 and 5080 cards. The cards are now expected to arrive in mid-February. Deliveries for the originally planned January 30 launch date are not possible. The representative claims the delay is due to external factors, indicating that the retailer has no control over improving the situation.

This is TakTak Mall from Zotac Korea.
We have received many inquiries regarding the sales schedule of the RTX 50 series and would like to provide an update.
The RTX 5090 model from Zotac Korea is expected to arrive in February.
Please note that sales and delivery will not be possible on January 30th, the initially mentioned date.
The RTX 5090 is scheduled to be available for sale in early February. However, due to external factors, the arrival date may be delayed until mid-February. We kindly ask for your understanding in this matter.
As for the RTX 5080 model, we are still confirming the arrival schedule. Once the schedule is finalized, we will provide another update.
We sincerely thank all our customers for their interest and inquiries regarding Zotac Korea and TakTak Mall.
Benchlife, a source typically well-informed within board partner circles, claims that the looming shortages may be linked to NVIDIA’s communication with AICs (Add-In Card partners). These companies are now entering the Spring Festival season in China and Taiwan, resulting in many sales and distribution activities being delayed until February.

The report suggests that NVIDIA could have mitigated this issue by announcing the launch after the Spring Festival, avoiding the overlap with the holiday period.

For NVIDIA, we will see GeForce RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 go on sale on January 30, but we can confirm that there are not many supplies on the market. This is mainly due to some communication issues between NVIDIA and AIC partners, as well as the Spring Festival Factors are expected to improve in February. In addition, we expect to see the GeForce RTX 5070 Ti starting to appear on the channel in mid-to-late February.

Lol, what?
Cue the conspiracy theorists that "they're pushing you to Geforce Now and not owning anything".

perfect gen to skip anyway, miniscule rasta performance increases and prices will jump up regardless (at least for the top card), keeping the 4090 in the rig. If I build a new small pc, I'll get AMD GPU this time.
This is assuming you have a 4000 series card. If you are coming from 3000 series or AMD equivalent, this is a pretty solid update.

Honestly if you have a 40 series card then you should be good to wait until everything normalises.

As for everyone else - RIP.

I remember people that sold 2080ti's for cheap before 3080/90 launch. Most of them were fucked for months without chance to get any decent gpu...

Situation was far worse with 3xxx series (covid, crypto etc.) but with limited supply (rumored) it won't be easy to get new GPU ~MSRP.

Yep, and if anything it will keep the value of the 4000 series artificially high while this shakes out.

So waiting until you can secure a new card and then selling your old one is the best play here.

Yeah honestly the biggest surprise of the reveal was the lack of a killer app. Especially if you have a 4080 or 4090, there’s really nothing on the horizon that is going to massively benefit from upgrading to 5000 series.

I’ll still probably buy one if I get the opportunity just so I can sell my 4090 for the best possible price.

lol at the one who sold there 4090 before getting your hand on a 5090
Plenty of people doing that every time, and every time they cry they're left with a gaming PC without a GPU.

But people who sold their 4090s are the dumbest of the bunch, since these cards are:

1) Impossible to find at MSRP or close
2) Still more powerful than anything below the 5090

With the 5090 being impossible to find, their actual price (scalpers) will be much higher. How in hell do people think the 4090 will depreciate?

That's fine. Those thinking of buying a 5090 probably aren't desperate for the upgrade anyway.

My 3080 is doing just fine and this will force me out of impulse buying which does me a favour. Good opportunity to watch some benchmark videos of the cards too.

Im not sold on frame gen due to latency, but the leaps in RT seem significant from leaks. Pure raster is meh.

I’m not saying that it won’t be a leap. Just that I don’t see any games that are going to massively benefit from the upgrade the way e.g. Cyberpunk w/path tracing did from the 4090.

4090 can pretty much max out anything at 4K >60 FPS. I don’t see any games in the near future with some bonkers graphical settings that are going to require DLSS4 + multi frame gen + extra ray tracing power to make it playable.

I wonder if this will affect FE stock as well? Or is Nvidia being a douche to their AIB partners by flooding the market with FE while their partners are playing catch up?

Agreed. I don’t see many games still where RT is an absolute requirement. Hell, we see barely any games requiring DX12 features sets as a base as a whole.

I fully admit that my 7900xt has been plenty for 4k in almost all games. Where its not, tweak a couple settings and sprinkle a bit of upscaling and i’m easily in the 100fps range.

It was supposed to be the biggest gains and the most availability and it's all the opposite. Gamers need to face facts, fab slots are limited and nVidia would rather make chips for it's AI boards than for video cards because of much higher profit margins. Going forward, gamers are just an after-thought to them.

I'm selling my 4090 today, I'm more than prepared to not have a graphics card of this caliber anyways. I have a backup. I'm taking a trip to one of the micro centers that several hours away so I'm doing my best research to make sure that there will be a chance I can score one. I know they have a limit and a voucher system so I hope it works out. Otherwise I'm going to be waiting and I'm okay with that but I'm definitely getting it the very minimum the founders edition.

Exactly my case too.

I wonder how demand is going to be on these compared to other nvidia launches. Is there any data on this?

They should charge more money for online only orders then.

Scammers will always have the upper hand when there's no accountability.

Just have it so it has to be shipped to Walmart or Best Buy and you have to pick it up.

How does this happen though? Surely they would have known quite some time ago they were planning to release the new series at this time. Why didn't they ramp up production back then? Shortages like this always feel artificially created.

My current setup is a laptop with a 3080m. Before that was a 980m. I'll stick with my current setup until at least 6xxx or 7xxx lmao.

While I don't doubt supply is going to be shit, I'm not convinced demand is going to be particularly high for these cards. At least once all the 'enthusiasts' manage to get one.
