Retro Achievements |OT| A New Take on Old Games

I somehow missed this news, but a few weeks ago Retro Achievements added support for Sega Dreamcast

Honestly some really good stuff in there I'm going to have to play through.

Hopefully this means we're getting closer to PS2 and Gamecube games being supported. That would be amazing.

Holy shit, this is big.

I can go plat Soulcalibur now 😂

Achievement support will be included in the next major release of PCSX2 on October 1, on all supported platforms. The separate build is only temporary.

So - it looks like October 1st will be the rollout for PS2 achievements. As of last week, they had over 60 sets completed, and their developers are doing internal testing. They've also added PlayStation 2 to their dropdown menu on the main site.

I started FF1 on NES back up the other day. I forgot how much grinding there is. I'm playing on hardcore mode too, so no fast forwarding for me.

So that was a lie. I read over the constraints tied to hardcore mode achievements--turns out, fast forward does not count against you.

PS2 achievements are now live. Requires PCSX2 (for now). I tried playing Katamari Damacy earlier, and it worked great! Really excited to see more games inevitably added to this list.

Hmm, tried this with Emudeck on Rog Ally X (bazzite) but getting any achievements. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. Shows me logged in to Retro Achievements in Emudeck. Playing Burnout Revenge and I should have one achievement already, but RA isn't seeing that even playing any games.

Edit: Ah.....you have to go into Retroarch (in other emulators in EmulationStation) and save your configuration file. Seems like this would be an automatic step when you set your login or at least a message saying this is what you must do. Enough whining....back to Burnout

Edit2: That got me a step further as RA sees I'm playing the game, but it still isn't awarding the achievements. I wonder if this is because I'm using an image I ripped directly from the game disc.

I've had this happen to me too. Retro Achievements has a hash list for each game where it has to be ripped a certain way / perfect replica / what's readily available to pirate. Some games, especially older games, had different revs on the disc since online patching wasn't a thing. So your game might not be ripped exactly the same way (or it might be a different rev) and therefore won't have a hash that matches, and therefore won't work. I've also had this happen before where only the European version of a game has a hash in their database, not the North American or Japanese version of a game.

Only thing you can do really is either a) locate an exact copy with the right hash online, legally grey area, or b) open a ticket on the game page. You'll want to generate an MD5 hash of your rip and send it to the achievement maintainer so they can add it to the database.

I thought it might be something like that when I saw the hash on the game page. Hmm, ok......might see about providing the hash and see where that goes.

Thanks.

Probably just blind, but I'm not seeing a place to open a ticket. Looks like the hash they have for their game might be wrong. It says it is from "redump", but redump.org matches the hash on my file. May have to address it in the forum.

Well....it isn't the hash. Moderator said it wouldn't load in my profile if that was the case.

I should have one achievement in Burnout Revenge for clearing Sunshine Keys with at least bronze medals. Nada
That sucks - then it's likely just an issue with the individual achievements themselves not having memory addressing that's aligned with your particular copy of the game. Again, I usually see this in older games where the memory pointers in "Rev A" are different from memory pointers in "Rev B" and therefore winning that race with a bronze medal isn't recognized by their system.

Unfortunately, the only way to resolve this (short of getting promoted on their site as an achievement admin and taking over the game yourself to fix the issue) is to report it to the original creator

On that page there is a "report an issue" button that will open a ticket. Let them know that you completed the race, but the achievement didn't work. This will open a ticket for the game itself. Do this for each achievement you unlock but don't obtain - that way the ticket queue for the game will grow, meaning it'll get more and more attention from the site admins. Eventually (hopefully) someone will take notice and correct it, or at the very least they have the ability to manually unlock those achievements for you personally.

Thanks. I just ripped Burnout 3. I'm going to try it and see what happens before I report this achievement.
