thankfully met Mega at a time when he was putting up for sale a few of his PVM/BVM's. at the time, there was a few postings on my local craigslist but i don't ever see them come around these days.
There was a time when the popularity was high but the supply was still good enough that you could get them cheap. It was realistic and not at all a matter of luck. I've gotten a bunch of cheap pro monitors with minimal effort. I probably still could if I was looking for one.
I'm never going to find a working BVM-20F1U for sale at a non-highway robbery price in LA now, am I...
Got lucky last year getting my PVM-20M4U for $30, but it has a tad of discoloration in part of it.
My point was that it WAS realistic and it isn't now. If you have some sort of hookup selling 14-20 inch PVMs for 20-30 bucks right now, please let me know and I'll even buy you one.
My PVM-20M4U has a "degauss" button on front. Try that to get rid of the discoloration.
Yeah, I wasn't looking to turn a big profit, mostly break even and free up space at home!
I still have spare CRTs if anyone in/near NYC wants to pick them up!
By any chance, do you have any widescreen CRTs?
Nope. Never seen one IRL either. Best I got is a attachable bezel for my 17" HD JVC that converts it to 16:9 aspect ratio.
Sony BVM-D24E1WU is the gold standard to get and it's rare, expensive and heavy.
I saw one in the flesh once but the guy wanted $300 for it. I didn't bite but I should have.
I'll probably never see another one.
All this CRT talk is relevant to my current problem. I'm in the process of staging my house to sell and I've had to move all my CRTs into storage. This is the exact moment I regret going the CRT route... Almost. Here's what I just moved in CRTs alone.
Sony 27fs120
Sony 32fv310
Sony 20fs100
Sony bvm 1911
Sony pvm20xx
Sony pvm1351q (2)
Nec 22" vga crt
Samsung 19" vga crt
Samsung 17" vga crt
That's a lot of heavy CRTs to have to move around. I say keep a couple of the monitors around 20", a few smaller ones and see if anyone wants the rest before you scrap them. My setup includes:
Sony BVM-20F1U
Sony PVM-14L2
JVC DT-V1710CG
JVC TM-H150CG
JVC TM-A130SU
I also have these three CRTs which anyone can have if they're in the area:

Peltz, I'd say you messed up but truth is I balked at anyone trying to sell a 20" BVM at more than a few hundred not long ago. None of us would have known it would get so dire that they now go for $600 and up, sometimes over $1000 if they're the bigger screens or have HD.
^Besides scarcity, lack of 15khz support would be the reason for little interest in the PGMs. Useless for a big chunk of retro gaming
Are you in or around toronto. I can meet in person if that's the case. I was supposed to get a small screen from a friend but thay hasn't happened yet so my search begins again.
Switch has good, clean output.Took the Zelda shots because some really ugly captures are floating around in the CEMU threads to show how much worse the game looks on native hardware. Of course CEMU is a big improvement, but why use crappy misleading pics to prove a point?
I'm in Saskatchewan so unfortunately that's a bit of a drive
If you wanted to PM me then by all means. When I do ship stuff I usually calculate shipping via Canada Post shipping calculator. Understandable if you wanted to see it in action beforehand though. I could always send pics/vids if you like.
I shall pass. Shipping is usually killer on CRTs. On a side note I do plan on driving through all the way west one day/(a bucket list item of mine is to go to each province and territory in Canada)
Just wondering... Any of you retro-AV people - switching from CRTs to digital, thanks to devices such as the Framemeister and the OSSC - also switched from classic analog scanline goodness to pure, 100% unfiltered pixels/IQ?
Last night I was having some fun with my OSSC and LineX5 mode and... I don't know, for the first time, I felt genuinely pleased while looking at my Mega Drive's and Saturn's RGB output, with no post-processing at all. I always thought it would've horrified me, giving me nothing but sterile emulators' vibe... So, I'm only being curious here. Any of you plays their retro stuff like that, on a regular basis?

Yeah as much as I love CRTs and my PVM, the big issue is screen size for me. I just don't love being three feet away from my TV at all times. I moved my setup to my 42" Panasonic Plasma via FRAMEMEISTER and haven't looked back.I switched from a 29inch Trinitron (decent consumer model - UK/RGB SCART) and a 20L2 to a 32inch Samsung flatscreen with an OSSC.
Don't regret it at all. With Scanlines at 12-18% it looks good enough, and my TV has approx 10ms of lag.
Save space, get to run the Switch through it as well... All golden.
I'm a CRT lifer.
Whats your capture hardware / software like?

Nothing beats playing Silent Hill with CRT while a dust storm is raging outside.
Something about dust storms calms me.
And why is that a Shitty CRT can have a better sound than a 3000$ TV???
Have you been using a CRT for a while or did you decide to go for one due to the mode switching slowness of the FM/OSSC? I remember you were pretty concerned about that for Silent Hill specifically
Can't say I've ever experienced a dust storm. Sounds a lot better than an ice storm.
I dunno about dust storms either, but CRT gaming is sublime.
Indeed.
Any pics of the setup?
This is a little old but gives an idea. The turboduo, 2600, Xbone and Nintendo Switch aren't in there and the model 1 snes is subbing in for my RGB-modded snes mini.
It looks like things are not hooked up, but everything is. Hundreds of velcro ties. Hundreds. Awesome to play all the retro stuff on both sets (can be simultaneous) without swapping any cords.

With 30 systems hooked up (or more if you count things like jaguar and jag cd separately), I had to do a wiring diagram or I was getting confused. It's been nice to have since the setup has required a lot of revisions to get everything working how I want it.
