After playing it for so long you open another horizontal wave with it, sometimes an AI companion shooting at enemies as well! It's so fucking powerful. Carbine comes second especially the slow version with higher stopping power.

I tried it two times now and didn't liked it overall. But it seems powerfull in this video. Not like the gun carrier. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

That was me. I did try to escape but they got me.

You literally have to escape the whole area to the next one, jump off that place. That what I did, lol. This is how I managed beating the whole game in one run from biome 1 to final boss, not standing my fucking ground. Forget all the emotional speeches about bravery in this game, be a fucking weasel.

Also when you have that kind of fast bullets shot at you use sprinting sideways and you should avoid them, then run towards the fucker and slash that bitch.
These attacks are not too troublesome anymore. It's really their lasers, the purple rings, their health and especialy the amount of them.
Also some of the enemies in the 5th biome which give you the keys are crazy. Like mini bosses.

But tomorrow i'm gonna seek them hollow and cyberblade their tentacles to oblivion. :messenger_bicep:

You can use the grappling hook from the 2nd/3rd room in the first biome to reach 3 biome as he told you.
I know but he complained that the room wasn't there and he had to play through the complete second biome.

That's why i mentioned the portal. Another way to save some time.

Can you stack those astronaut figures? I've got 2 of them but it doesn't show that I do. I feel like I just threw away 250 monies. I'm one key away from boss #5. Can't wait to see how crazy it is.

I got very meticulous in biome 4. I saved all chests til the end, I went back to the ship repeatedly for HP just so I could collect resins instead of getting HP from them. Hollowseeker is still a God, the AR and pistol are good. I read shottie with slug is good, I thought I had a decent one but it fell off hard. I'm doing super well and feeling confident that I should atleast kill 5th boss (haven't tried him) and maybe even beat the game..

It happened again.

Last phase of the boss in biome 3, health almost all down, use my grapple to get to a rising platform and as soon as I land the bosses henchmen fire a yellow bolt killing me instantly.

Yeah I am done with this till they let my casual ass save mid run, the runs are WAY too long and offer WAY too little to be worth my time.

On a positive note, I didn't realise the bridge opens up now for every run, which is great news as it saves me 1/3 of my run in biome 3.

Always look for regeneration at low health, either via a parasite (but see if you can handle the negatives) or suit augment. Buy a figurine for second chance (making it 2 in total with the reconstructor). Explore every door possible in the biome to get more good loot and make your integrity higher. Use the ship to refill your health. Also my favorite weapon is the Hollowseeker, it's really on a level above all, Carbine comes second. The more you use that gun the more permanent perks you open which will make it even more powerful.

Escape the area if you're being overwhelmed, and the tree-like guy, the brute with the axe hand, and the big lion-like monster all of them are weak against melee attacks. So you better upgrade your melee with this Blade Balancer that makes your melee attacks ever more powerful and can break through yellow barriers:

returnal-blade-balancer-1.900x.jpg

There are some great augments like 25% max integrity, 50% more powerful melee for few seconds after getting hit, 15% protection (stackable, I think), and all similar things.

To me I would only use hollowseeker even if it's like 3-5 levels below the next weapon.

Bo_Hazem Bo_Hazem I feel like the hollowseeker is great on everything but the Biome 3 boss, I took that gun with me for it a few runs ago and it sucked as it has not got good enough range, you either need a carbine or a long range charge up gun like the spitter thing or a rocket launcher.

Beat it yesterday. Like I said - if you take time exploring and be careful about equipment - biomes 3 and 6 are very doable... The final boss was was ridiculous, I was ill-equipped with no clue what to expect but somehow made it with 5 medkits... Music is SO GOOD.

I'd love to continue playing but I'm shelving it till we get some patch notes.

While I didn't encounter any bugs in the game (one audio glitch, sound out of sync in cutscenes) unfortunately the activity cards system is currently broken.
At various points, it tends to stop tracking your progress and unlocking trophies.

I only noticed after beating the final boss - PS5 OS shows I'm at 30%. Bad news - if that happens to you and If you check your activity cards while you play and see something incorrect there - most likely it's too late and the "backup save" trick described below will not work.

GLITCHED TROPHIES WARNING & WHEN TO MAKE SAVE GAME BACKUPS:

Because the story-related trophies (act 1, 2, 3 & bosses), as well as house sequences, have a high chance to glitch you should make some save game backups throughout the game.
As a precaution, back up your save game at these points:
  • Before going to the 3rd boss (end of act 1) –> in case act 1 trophy glitches out
  • Before going to the 5th boss (end of act 2) –> in case act 2 trophy glitches out
  • Before returning all 6 sunface fragments to the house which triggers the last house sequence and opens up act 3. –> in case house sequence trophy or act 3 trophy glitches out
Also back up your save when you are close to completing the survey for a region. In case a trophy doesn’t pop you can copy back the save. Unfortunately you only have 1 save slot in this game and there is no manual save feature (only autosaves). Do note that backing up the save game requires you to exit the game which kills you and puts you back to the start of the act! But you won’t need to repeat the bosses you’ve already finished (can head straight for the next boss). This is still better than having to replay all bosses from scratch if a trophy bugs out on you. You won’t lose your survey progress when exiting the game, that progress is permanent even when you die.

To back up save: PS5 Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings > Saved Data (PS5) > Console Storage > Returnal > Upload to Cloud Storage. Requires PS+ subscription on the account you are playing with!

Also make sure you’re signed into PSN (online) while playing. The game tracks most of your progress through the activity cards feature (press
:ps:
to view the activity cards), which isn’t available offline. Particularly your progress for the survey trophies is tracked there. You can technically earn trophies offline, but they appear to glitch out more often when you’re not online.

more:

I'm curious if they address it retroactively, if not that could be a save delete and start from scratch... I don't even mind doing it all over again - the game is amazing and easily my GOTY 2021.
And no, it doesn't need a save system, it needs to work as it should with OS as intended since in a lot of ways (rest mode crashes, etc) it still isn't.

Killed that bitch with the holloseeker, nearly done the boss in my first attempt with only 30% health. You need to shoot ahead of him because bullets are kinda slow, and aim for the head of the glowing red spots (weakpoints).

Yeah it shows 30% to as well, not a trophy hunter so no fucks given:

Regen at low integrity + shield at low integrity + boosted melee + boosted melee after taking damage + melee kill causes nearby enemies to explode

That's a nasty combination! I think in my run got them all but the melee causes nearby enemies to explode because didn't have enough Obomites nor feeling to spend Ether for it. Also packed like at least 3x 15% protection for a total of 45% protection or more, along with other damage.

Also the final boss is pretty fucking tough and you need more than 2 eyes to keep track of all the mess.

My last four runs have been ended by those kamikaze flying robots. Their rocket attacks don't miss. I can't dodge then or phase through them. Running away in not possible because they lock on and will hit you in mid air.

I got to the boss like 15 runs ago. Haven't seen her since. I don't even know where the boss shortcut is.

what is the point of saving all chests to the end
since you start at max proficiency lvl 15?

Also don't use keys on chests if you only have like 1. If you got 2 or more then maybe. Just keep an eye for the secret room, yellow thing glowing that if you touch takes you down for good stuff/keys/loot.

Had my first hard crash on my 6th try and still on 1st biome. I've played 3 different sessions using the PS5 rest mode so hopefully reloading the game will help. Very disappointing as this run was my best and I had the exact gun I wanted.

You should always secure a figurine and reconstructor, pretty tough to reset your stats because you need to grind again for better loot. At the last biome I had 2 full blocks of integrity and insane amount of stats and augments collected all the way since the 1st biome, and nearly died at the second attempt against the boss.

ive avoided the melee upgrade because it’s expensive but I will try that next and see if I can get a sick hollowseeker

Yeah I said so in my review/tips ;) If you have the guts you can try, but honestly I would rather not gamble as you sometimes fight 3 mini bosses with so much flying shit around you. Too much if you wanna keep your health intact. But explore everything else.

I spent a good amount of time building a good loadout on Biome 1. Figurine, Additional protection, +50% health, big health vial. Headed to Biome 3 with confidence I will beat it this time… but no.. got gangbaned by the flying robots almost at the beginning. I’m done.

Funny since various guides on gaming websites say that the hollowseeker is the worst weapon in the game. It's definitely not. Waves = big damage at any range, and being able to get consistent dps with infrequent reloading and without needing precise aiming lets you focus on your movement and dash timing.

Haha this game is very Soulslike from the reactions it is getting from people. Yes it sucks to have a good run and then die. But guess what? You only lost that run, and next time you can have an even better run. If anything you will be going in with the most experience you have ever had.

Said by someone who has been playing for 7hours now and not even at the first boss yet lol.

yeah I’m getting used to it now

the game is so fun to play that dying isn’t too terrible IMO...,take your time and optimize the loot you get instead of rushing through as fast as possible

I though i would get an upgrade for those later on. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Me too. Simply put, Housemarque fucked us all with its fucking descriptions. I ignored the figurine because I thought it's a collectable for a trophy that you then keep it in the jackpot of the ship and adore it! Only knew about it after beating the game. The reconstructor I knew it by accident as well. I paid 6 Ether then after that cutscene nothing happened, and I was like "wtf did I just waste 6 ether on!". If I didn't die later and respawn I would've not even knew about it.

This is one of the reasons this game doesn't deserve 10/10 by any stretch. No mid-run saves, extremely shit description, and sometimes you get pranked like I was teleported to a very small, tight room with 3 mini bosses, those aliens with swords and barely killed them, also that other prank where you get thrown in front of 4 canons and I quickly hid behind a solid statue-like to the left.

Some areas are unbalanced, also there is no description for the golden gate where I got killed there for my second time ever at the very beginning thinking it's a main mission not a horde fucking arena where you fight 3 mini bosses with so much flying enemies shooting at you at the same time, nearly got them though at the 3rd wave.

Also a reminder, there are slow, hovering little pink arrow attacks that follow you slowly. Those cause malfunctions on hit up to 2! These are the worst and you can dodge them and they still follow you from behind, be careful! Beaten the final boss on second attempt while still having 2 malfunctions.

This game has so much passion. I think many got exposed to the roguelike genre here. I don't play roguelikes nor Souls games. Still, not a fan of roguelike/lite games.
Oh yeah 100%, closest I got to playing a roguelike/lite was playing some Binding Of Issac with a friend to see how far the other could go, this is the hardest game I've played since Sekiro for sure.

You cleanse the malignant stuff before picking it up, pretty expensive usually and I advice ignoring malignant stuff. This guy is bloated with Ether so he can afford it, but use it wisely if you must.

On biome 3 now, activated the bridge, dunno if that's a shortcut the 2nd time round as I didn't quite get back there. Still having fun, it's definitely a game that's greater than the sum of its parts to me. Interested to see how long it'll take to beat - as far as I know, you could have one great run where you smash through the whole game because you've got so many perks stacked that it's easier than individual shortcut runs?

Anyone else's hands going a little numb after all the haptic feedback? :messenger_grinning_sweat:

That exactly what I did. Within 3 hours I was still in the first biome, then within 8 hours (more like 7 hours for breakfast at sunset and bathrooms, prayers) from my 3 attempt I went all the way from first biome to the final boss. Died 3 times along the way but thanks to the Reconstructor (didn't even know the figurine would give an extra life so didn't buy it). So it was a single run and by the final biome I had 2 full bars of health and a lot of stacked perks.
