Why. Can't. I. Beat. These. Fucking. Robots

The Souls games didn't make me question my abilities as much as this

Could It be i'm actually shit at games?

I should be a game journalistist
their honing missiles are the worst. They never miss and you can't dodge them. The worst part is that they can suicide bomb you at any moment too.

Man I really suck at this I should be a game journo too. I can beat Sekiro but I haven't even found the first boss to this yet.

I'm sure it will happen soon. It's like I'm humming along and then after 45 mins or so I go into a room and it's full of tons of dudes they dude wipe me out. Got to get better at combat I guess.

The flying kamikaze bots force you to change your strategy. The best way to fight them is to use cover and be more stationary. They will kamikaze into the wall and when they use their rockets justdash behind cover. If they get close to you, jump->dash->melee. Get a longer ranged weapon (like the carbine).

Not saying they aren’t tough, but I rarely die to them using this method.

The ones on the bridge can't be avoided because there is no cover on the bridge.

So there is no shortcut to boss three.

I actually had a pretty awesome run going. I upgraded my health twice. Had almost two full bars going. But those damn flying kamikazes on the bridge made me use my health vials. And that killed my run at the second phase of the boss.

Finally beat the third boss. I had an awesome loadout;

What do you mean? You should be able to get to the big bridge not too far in, but you still have to ascend the tower

Finally got past this one enemy that was giving me trouble. There was a green laser in the arena that was healing him. I stopped fighting and ran to the source of the laser and blew it up. I started back on the enemy and was making progress and when he flipped over on his back, I shot an energy grenade and it was an instant ko. It was an epic battle trust me!

I mean when they spawn on the bridge, I cant follow your tips and hide behind pillars because there are no pillars on that bridge.

I caved, was bored and bought it. Fuck it. I gotta say the way this uses the dualsense is FAR better than everything but astros playroom
Yep. when the game first starts and you feel those rain drops on the controller, i shook my head and thought i get what cerny was trying to do here.

the 3d audio is fantastic too. the game is an audio visual tour de force.

Boss 2 is so easy i was prancing around and he killed me right before dying :D

Edit: i was wearing the 3rd suit (2nd extra suit for deluxe edition) and nothing bad happened i was playing just fine without crashes

What bridge? Take a screenshot next time cause I've never encountered anyone on the bridge and i did biome 3 a bunch.

Also, game put me in a 20x20 secret room with a very tough "elite" spouting purple shit everywhere. I bounced outta that fast.

Level 2 was really weird. It has this easy section of split up areas, then a tower to the top. I die and come back to see a teleporter right to the boss after the easy first part of the level. None of the harder enemies even show up.

I wish they could have any enemy type show up in any level after you encounter them. Would make encounters a lot more interesting and replayable.

Anyone having issues with the audio? I don't use the 3d audio because the volume is way too low and the volume control on my headphones has no effect for some reason. When I have the headphones going directly in the monitor like I'm normally do, it defaults to sound bar. I get wrong audio cues constantly, like things sounding like they're behind me when they're in front. Drives me nuts.

Ok! I made a breakthrough. Finally. Ended up not getting killed and found a sword. Now I have a cool melee attack and can slice through those red barriers. Mmmmm.

Better than that, I found the first boss. Took out his first phase no problem but he got me in the second. He doesn't seem very tough! Tomorrow after work he's going down...

Just finished the game at 16 hours. I was trying to beat it without extra lives but kept getting wrecked and wanted to see the end of it. So I started hoarding ether and used every reconstructor I could, and every astronaut. Used a really OP Hollowseeker for the majority of my run.

Loved every second of it, honestly one of the most memorable gaming experiences I've had in a long time. It gives me hope that there is still innovation to be had in actual gameplay in the AAA space. I'm not sure I'd consider this a true AAA game in terms of scope, but the game certainly innovates in ways that can effect AAA games, as I believe it is the most successful attempt at translating the fun of a 2D arcade game into a modern TPS. The only game that even comes close is Vanquish, and in some ways Returnal is much more to the point and fun to play than that game, hence more "arcade". The way the game uses the Dualsense and lack of load times, also make it the first distinctly feeling next-gen game to me.

The only thing is, if you didn't love the game as much as I did, I could totally understand feeling ripped off at $70 for a game of this scope. It feels more like it should be at a AA price of $40. My reasoning for this is that for me these were 16 of the most memorable hours in modern gaming history. So I'll likely go back for more and end up getting way more time than that out of the game. However, if you didn't think that, and you just finished it once and drop it and didn't really enjoy it, then yeah $70 is too much.

TL;DR: Forget Naughty Dog. Housemarque just became the premiere developer for Playstation IMO. Absolutely loved this game.

Done for the night. Beat the 4th Biome and Boss. Probably one of the easier ones to beat imo so far. The Hollowseeker is my friend through this journey.

Bo_Hazem Bo_Hazem and other returnal vets...

is the 5th biome ridiculously hard? I’m struggling big time on this.

I am getting WRECKED by the Frost Severed mini-battles. They basically have an insane amount of health and I’m not very good at dodging when they do the teleport melee. Dodging basically doesn’t work half the time they still get me

add the purple laser shit everywhere and it feels ridiculous even with 200% health increase

This could only happen to me lol. And of course the game didn't register that as a kill.

A two hour run. Really took my time in the first biome. I had double health. An extra life. 4 health packs. I still lost. Why? Well i suck but I also didn't get any weapon drops and had to settle for a shitty pistol you get at the start of the boss fight that did no damage. I bet my level 2 holoseeker from the first biome wouldve done more damage than this trash.

And double health. I sucked so much i let everything hit me. But the fight did go on forever because my gun was doing no damage and it was past 1AM. I could tell my reflexes were shit but you can't save so had to push through.

Will beat it tomorrow now that i know i pretty much have to run through the entire first biome instead of skipping it.

I've been there. One run i just kept falling off cliffs and shit, into the void.

My dodge skills aren't perfect and in the final phase of nemesis i kept taking damage but the regen hp ability kept giving me enough to survive.

How do you get that? It almost never drops for me. It's a parasite right?

Yes the 5th biome is pretty hard if you reached where you should get the 3 keys. The boss himself not so much. I died once there and had to get through with one life afterwards. You should always change your place, use the grappling hook if you see a spot, sprint away. It's all about hit and run tactics and getting up close and melee attack sometimes.

This could only happen to me lol. And of course the game didn't register that as a kill.

You seem to have wasted all your effort at the end because you rushed it, never rush. I come with 1 medkit and sometimes none. You need to have better awareness of the bullets and platforms around you :) Anyway, you're getting there! And yes don't care much about the level of the weapon, check the damage. You go for the Carbine at least if needed, although the pistol is good but too much reloading.

Finally, beat the first boss and ventured out into the second biome. Had no problem with those flying hammerheads and even that turtle dinosaur bastard was no big deal but those humanoid fuckers are hard. Had a run where I was in a tight room with two of those. Instant death sentence. How do you even doge several of those things?!?

Is there a way to raise Weapon Proficiency quicker? For some reason my Guns always start at 0 in Biome 1 and then go to about 5-6 in Biome 2, is it supposed to do that?

It was actually 3 of them in a very fucking tight room. I barely killed them all. You don't dodge them all but you need to melee attack them and make some stun and fight the rest. I actually just improvised and nearly died. That was literally a prank and can expect most people will die there just like later on you get thrown in front of 4 canons, just run to the side and hide behind the rock or sprint to them and melee attack.

That's normal. Each biome gives you pro level matching the biome, but if you farm you can get close to that.

Just had my first good run, first time inside the house, made it to the first boss and got him to phase 3 half health then he killed me however I respawned ( didn't know I had it) so he sliced me from behind before I could dash and half health gone. Then he beat me.

Was expecting the boss to be harder, his projectile attacks were quite slow and overall a fair battle. Hope to beat him next run, I'm seeing progress each time which is good, just wish I could pause.

Ah good, I noticed the Boss room always gives you a decently levelled weapon outside it as well which helps

I do have some questions for people a bit further in:

  1. What does Adrenaline do? As far as I can tell it lets you Quick reload faster and adds certain buffs to every level you have, which resets on a hit
  2. Is the Max health farm per run or can you get more Max HP permanently?
  3. Where do I insert Data Cubes? I keep finding them and I inserted one after the first boss, but not been able to find anywhere since then
  4. Fuck that 2nd stage part of the 2nd boss, it has no tells over which direction he flies in from and often I'm getting hit from behind
I cannot wait to watch a no hit run of this game

Yes, they give you more powerful damage and other perks. Honestly I don't pay close attention to the buffs but it's very beneficial to avoid being hit. That's too hard while fighting a boss though but very manageable elsewhere.

- Is the Max health farm per run or can you get more Max HP permanently?

There is no permanent max health as far as I know, but those fucking cubes should do that but seems like they don't appear so.

- Where do I insert Data Cubes? I keep finding them and I inserted one after the first boss, but not been able to find anywhere since then

From what I saw usually after fighting the boss you find the vendor, except in biome 5 and 6, I think, you can find them before as well.

- Fuck that 2nd stage part of the 2nd boss, it has no tells over which direction he flies in from and often I'm getting hit from behind.

You need a headset, I would suggest Pulse 3D. You can easily spot his direction that way. I can find the game being pretty hard without a headset. For me I use full volume but lower SFX and Music to 90% as the dialogues are kinda low in volume.

Thanks for answering, I've been trying to decipher all the little systems going on, and I though Dark Souls was obtuse, I do have a decent headset (Hyper X Revolver S) but I am highly considering buying the Pulse headset at some point
