Returnal's peak player count is 5642 on Steam!

It doesn't help PC ports when Sony puts almost zero marketing into them. While the PS version gets trailers for years, TV ads, state of play footage etc.... the PC game typically goes like this:

- Sony Twitter account. Hey everyone, we are announcing old game X coming to PC in a couple months
- Here's a snapshot of min, med and max settings and specs
- Bye. Our job is done

An odd way of marketing games. Then again, they are caught in a tough spot of wanting to sell PC games, but not too much or else their PS fans will revolt.

Sony have no one to blame but themselves, everyone is begging for Bloodborne and they release niche tough rougelike bullethell TPS, and to add to the trouble its not well optimized so the low player count is to be expected.

I've played this game on the PS5 and I stand by what I originally said - it's definitely not worth getting at full price. There's just not a lot of unique content. This should've been a half priced title at best and even then it wouldn't be that attractive compared to Hades or other top tier roguelikes.

DF video is up...as expected and said, RT is the culprit, performance is not bad at all and looks and plays better than ps5.

Mid range cpus will suffer the most, as expected. Toasters not allowed to have fun. Confirms he spoke to devs to implement FSR 2.0 AND DLSS 3 in the future and a patch incoming.

Thanks, dude. I bought the game now :D

it'll get higher as more PC gamers realize how fun this game is
Hopefully, it's such a good game. Still debating on double dipping, just to support the devs.

I think the price is getting in the way a bit here, especially when ppl hear it's a rougelike/rougelite... it's been the pervasive narrative around this game, "it's not worth it" 🤷‍♂️ I spent money on a lot of dumb, stupid, worthless things in 2021... Returnal was not one of them.

Price is too high, marketing is too low, lots of people just spent their new game budget on Hogwarts. It will do decent over time, I would guess. I'll jump in around $30. I usually don't do rogue-lite games at all, but the gameplay does look frantic and fast, so I'd give it a try at that price.

Also
Waiting for a mod to swap out granny MC.
I give it a few weeks until we get 2B as MC, and probably Shrek/Thomas the Tank Engine.

Of course they will patch it and make the game better
Remember this is not square enix, this is sony, they care about their ports

If Sony is going to bring games to pc and possibly take a away a sale from the PS5 ecosystem, then logoically why would any business lower the price of Returnal significantly? Returnal hasnt been on Steam for 2 years, so its price on console is irrelevant. You see plenty of people on here say, "I'll wait untill it comes to PC". Well now that its on PC, people want the game to have a huge price drop? Sony's not in a desperate position to kiss PC players ass like Microsoft for Xbox.

You're already getting the game at a lower cost than console players, with more graphical features. Sony would be a damn fool to just give this game away at 30.00$.

For all of the port beggars over the years thinking they were going to get Sony exclusives for a fraction of the price......

The thing is it's £52.49 on PSN right now ON SALE. The standard price is £69.99. Right now on PC its £49.99 and from what I can tell it is the standard price of the game. It would have been nice to have a launch day discount on Steam, but the standard price on Steam is cheaper than the on sale price on PSN.

Right now on PC its £49.99
Its 60 euros for me. Dunno man, pretty pricey for a 2 year old game directed towards kind of a niche audience. I just hope they dont draw the wrong conclusions from this not selling. But seeing that most of their big releases have already passed 2mil I think the PC ports are here to stay.

How much is Returnal on PSN right now in euros?

Game is a lot of fun. I played it a lot on ps5, and would say it's a 8/10.

That said it released during a ton of stuff. Long dong warts, wild farts, wanted head, yakuzer samurai edition , and new Celeste dlc now today too.

It's not so much about precision aiming (you can turn off auto-aim on consoles if you're "that guy") but rather precision movement. Which, incidentally, is very good on a controller as you can direct your dash to a particular direction instead of only the cardinal directions.
Also the longer you hold Dash the farther you travel. I prefer Dash remapped to L1 so my right thumb stays on the stick. If I had the fancy Dualsense with the back buttons, I'd remap the right one to jump.

Played it on PS5. I spend days hesitating as the price was 80eur, even now I still think the PS5 games are too expensive. BUT the game was freakin awesome. Still one of my favorite experiences and game play on the PS5 along with Demon's Souls,

Edit: 800eur

I don't think it sold that many on PS5, either. They were willing to make a aaa that was aimed at a smaller audience. Usually for this kind of game you would expect a production more the scale of something like sifu.

When they started showing gameplay, a common criticism was that it looked like an indie game. The fast pew pew and difficult roguelite gameplay got everyone's wires crossed because you don't often get this combination of budget and arcade action focus.

I have been noticing the Sony releases are really dropping off in terms of Steam numbers.

Sony maybe could do a better job marketing Steam releases if they want better sales

My reason for not buying it:
I heard so much talk about the port being bad on release day. Plus it's a late release and I've already finished it.

800€ is a lot of money, Sony getting cray with their pricing!

Same. I got it day one £70 on ps5 and was not worth that. I ended up enjoying it but felt buyers remorse.

Could release them sooner while people are still talking about them, use the hype from the console release, 3 months delay max.

That makes sense but the fanboy rage would be too much to handle.

They released a 1.3gb update on Steam.

Hopefully Epic strike a deal with Jimbob to give it away for free. I might think about playing it then.

They make a PC port and can't correctly display 3840x1600 res at launch? I mean that's not even native 4K lmfao.

On PC you should be able to run a game at anything from 240p 30fps to 12288x6480 360fps as standard!

edit: i'm actually not joking. i might be taking it a bit too far but 8K 120hz is to be expected on any proper PC game.

Holy Christ the amount of salt in this thread could cure an entire villages salmon. My goodness.

. . .also, dunno about performance issues; I'm not trying to run the game at 4K/Ultra and I'm able to get a perfectly locked 60FPS at 2K with FSR2. Game handles and looks like a dream compared to what I got on PS5. After work will definitely check out those settings from DF.

It's like the prettiest girl in a small town moves to the big city, and finds out there's hundreds of girls just like her.
So true, look at Risk of Rain 2, it's not much older than Returnal. It launched with 71,5k concurrent users on Steam, sold roughly 8m by my estimate and its current user engagement still beats Returnal like a redheaded stepchild.

Both share some surface level similarities, so one could really get in there and start making comparisons for the post-mortem (j/k, returnal will enjoy long legs).

the problem is that the main chick is just to hot for the game so when people boot it up they see her and have to immediately masturbate until their dicks and/or clits fall off

once im your done there is no reason to stay logged in

Is that game actually good? I see it on the console stores and never thought it looked like much.

For as many who love the game, there are just as many who say the checkpoint system ruins the game. It's not an easy sell, and rougelites have been overplayed and overdone lately. It's a bad fate for a great game because these are shockingly low numbers.
