RIP Tom Petty, dead at 66 after cardiac arrest. TMZ and CBS reporting.

Not dead yet! "clinging to life" ...hope he makes it! I'm sure he's got the best possible doctors on him.

Unfortunately this feels like a Carrie Fisher situation. We all want him to pull through but the odds are majorly stacked against him. Still, if anyone could do it Tom could.

Most major news websites in the UK reported of him dying except the BBC website. There's still nothing on there now.

If they found him in cardiac arrest, pretty much every single second subtracted a year off his life that his heart wasn't beating. Even if he somehow "lives", he's pretty much a brain stem keeping a heart beating. He's gone. He's just not legally dead yet.

This is just fucking distasteful.

Shit sucks these days that people can't wait more than a few minutes for something to be confirmed. Instead we just get pointless speculation from armchair experts.

I've heard of a lot of things in medical, and this does not look good. Shake my head at least they got the tour done with, but I was hoping to see a nice theater concert or something someday. Man the hits keep on coming in 2017. Jesus man.

Some of my earliest memories of Tom Petty are of driving through the Las Venturas desert in San Andreas, listening to "Runnin' Down a Dream" on K-DST. I still think of that whenever I hear his voice. It's going to be hard to listen to him for a few days for me at least.
Some of my earliest memories go back to preschool and before, driving around grocery shopping and what not with my mom and listening to Tom Petty. Runnin' Down a Dream was my favorite track at that age.

This is fucking devastating. What a terrible day

I'm not sure how this is distasteful. It's reality. Even people that go into cardiac arrest and have 911 called immediately often will have to re-learn how to walk and talk. Tom Petty was found already in full arrest, and -then- 911 was called.

My grandma died of a similiar situation. Already found in cardiac arrest, brought back to life, but no brain activity. The want to have them magically come back is strong, but brain activity is pretty much objective science at this point. Tom Petty is fuckin' dead.

It's by far the most realistic outcome if he was indeed found unresponsive in full cardiac arrest. It's well past 'speculation'

Yeah, I'm trying to maintain some hope here.

You gotta pull through, Tom. We believe.

RIP Tom, you had the scariest music video of the 80's. And Free Falling is a great song. And I'll forever relate Won't Back Down with Curt Schilling's bloody, you might say red, sock.

If you have Sirius I highly recommend tuning to the Petty station tonight. Bob Flanagan and David Frick are having people call in and tell stories and memories, tons of friends of his and fellow musicians and fans and djs having great conversations in between classics and live cuts. Stellar way to hold a vigil for the guy.

That's awesome, I'll need to check that out now.

Q104.3 is/was (not listening right now) doing something similar but with commercials.

Rest In peace to one of my favorite artists ever, way too soon. Gonna spin Into the Great Wide Open. God, this sucks.

Dr.Guru of Peru

Apparently he had a DNR order that was ignored? Hopefully he either makes a miraculous recovery or passes soon, because that's fucked up.

Oh the same publication that falsely reported he was dead. I mean even if it is the mostly likely scenario we should still report actual facts

No it doesn't. They reported that he was taken off life support, not that he was dead.

So any update on this? I felt bad for prematurely posting a RIP. This is one death that will be hard since I have very fond memories of my dad playing his albums in his truck while driving me to football games, will be sad whenever a song comes on

His daughter posted on her Instagram that he is not dead yet and lashed out pretty hard on rolling stones reporting so not looking very good
