Can we get Bobby Roberts back on this board please so I can read an endless wave of text with buzzwords in italics to defend this mess of a movie?
I still don't get what soy got to do with it. Like, soy beans or something?
Oh, it is most definitely the tone of the article. It even starts off with this zinger.
The Rise of Skywalker is a bad movie and a miserable finale that serves no purpose other than the reassure adult fans of the original Star Wars that they are still the “chosen ones” of the pop culture galaxy.
There's even an orange man bad line.![]()

Man, I gotta say the TLJ haters are pretty confused in this thread. Many want to celebrate a seeming victory with the critics being divided on this but others are like "wait guys... didn't we just go 2 years saying the critics are wrong, even sometimes so far as to claim they're paid by Disney, conspiring or only praising it because it pushes their SJW agenda?"

Meanwhile I enjoyed TFA and TLJ and really want to see this one, because my perception of critics died when BvS came out.
I must have missed a lot of the debate, because I didn't see a lot of people accusing critics of being outright shills. It was more just pointing out that a lot of critics want to be viewed as smart or contrarian and they naturally latched onto a film that aims to subvert expectations and shit on what they had begun to see as a series that needed to grow up or something. A lot of critics seemed to love TLJ solely for the fact that it was a big middle finger to the Star Wars fanbase that they had grown to resent.
Oh I will see it some day. I love Trek it has long had many different forms so u can dive in and out at your leisure. Star Wars they are always trying to sell as this monolithic serious myth. SW is linear, ST is nonlinear.
Into Darkness was just so terrible. I love Wrath of Khan and consider it one of the best sci fi films of all so this was like a really lame copy of it with all the fun drained out and intense stupidity added.I was like, you have to be shitting me, this is the dumbest thing imaginable. Guessing they ignore that thread entirely in the third? It’s an impossible plot point that would forever change life as we know it u kinda have to ignore it ever happened. ROS sounds like it is suffering from the same stupidity.Them finding the death curing tribble (I member!) and injecting that blood into a human to bring someone back to life, CURING DEATH,
Whatever reasons people had the point was the critics were wrong.
the thing is, the critics themselves are setting up those expectations. you always hear "people wanted Luke to just X, Y, and Z" and it's like, no, people didn't, YOU did, and you're trying to project it on some vague "toxic fan"". this is one of the problems i have with TLJ, it is aimed at this phantom "fan", the strawman you create when you say "People just want trash". it's kind of an elitist position to start from, based on considering the common movie goer to be idiots. no doubt Rian thinks this way, and probably most reviewers/Twitter users as well.If people like something because it's "challenging fans" or shitting on their expectations, then that's their opinion to have and no one can take that from them. I won't agree with them, but saying critics are "wrong" is an odd thing to do.
I'm not big into space movies. And I typically hate Star Trek as I think it is corny. But Wrath of Khan was awesome. Looking back, man were those movie budgets low. lol. The Star Trek reboot a few years back about Khan again was good too.Wrath of Khan is a masterpiece and I watch it every few years. Only The Undiscovered Country and perhaps First Contact come close. The battle over !
So nothing.

Considering 'woke' is just the far left word for hateful bigotry, yes.is it as woke as the movie where the black guy who previously fought THE MAIN VILLAIN (in Rian's world) is made a laughable coward?
Honestly, everything everyone who is "hating" on this movie is saying... is just making me think I will like it more.
I wonder if this will end up with the inverse metacritic of TLJ, low critic scores, but high audience approval.

MFW at Star Wars Rebels. Is it really that good?Lowest rated Disney Star Wars release by a significant margin.

It's amazing. Disney was banking on these characters to help relaunch the franchise.

But after this debacle, it looks like this unlikely pair are the ones who will save Star Wars.

apparently he was meant to die at the start of TFA, but the actor convinced JJ to keep him alive. so he was around but he didn't have anything to do. then Rian was unable to write a decent buddy story with him and Finn, so he pushed him off on Holdo and Finn off on Rose, cos she was an easier character to write, cos she was based on a girl he had a crush on in high school.Anyone know what the point of Poe is?

He's some killer pilot that shows up here and there in the movies when an X-wing fighter scene is needed. Then he disappears.
(I haven't seen the latest film yet, so maybe his part in way bigger now)
The thing is though that it's entirely possible that JJ managed to walk back TLJ (thus enraging the critics who supported that movie) and still make a shite movie (thus allowing people to fully dunk on the sequel trilogy).
Its a win win for TLJ haters as far as I can see. They get a shitty SW movie to completely destroy and the get to laugh at critics throwing a hissy fit because JJ subverted their expectations.![]()
There is a new character named General Pryde, so you tell me.... I'm surprised Rey doesn't have a rainbow beamed lightsaber in the movie.OK I’ confused, I’m a hardcore anti SJW

I dunno but I do wonder what Isaac thinks of this new trilogy compared to his role before he got fired from it in the Dante's Inferno video game....Anyone know what the point of Poe is?
