Jesus christ, how is this guy the mayor of one of the largest cities in North America? This is ridiculous. I thought he was done with the Gawker tape, and then all the videos of him being drunk at random fast food places at 4am.

Apparently Toronto never put inpeachment rules in place for Mayors. Whoever is next in line might want to be bold enough to put some kinda rule like that in place for future reference.

Though the whole weird subset of Toronto people who actually want to vote this guy for another term is a very strange situation. I'm all for giving addicts a change to clean up their act, but y'know - that requires the addict to honestly WANT to clean up and be better, you can cite how nobodys perfect - which is true. But people are fools if they keep falling for the "I seriously won't do it again! -> I didn't do it! -> oops I guess I did" cycle.

Seriously don't understand why his wife hasn't divorced him yet. He hardly seems to be much of a family man and it must be hard on his kids to deal with the entire community knowing how much of a drugged up crackhead your pa is.

This would be an extremely bad idea. Rob Ford is an anomaly, we're not likely to ever see his kind again. Putting some kind of removal mechanism just to kick out any potential future 'Ford-types' would be irresponsible and could open itself to abuse.

Canadian mayors do not wield the kind of power and authority as other comparable U.S. cities. Any potential harm he can cause is mitigated by the very nature of his position. (e.g. he's a glorified agenda setter for city council)

Don't fret, the system works.
So as long as the Toronto voters hold up their end.

Whats this im hearing about a sex tape now?

Oh god my sides

This is apparently said by a star editor being interviewed on CP24

So, Rob Ford just sent out a press release where he admitted to an "alcohol problem"... but nothing else.

Yup.

Yeah, CityTV read it out loud as soon as they got it. No apologies to the people he offended (which included Hudak?) and only mentioned alcohol. Pretty pathetic press release from a pathetic person.

I like what the nba has, a 75% vote to remove. Even an unpopular politician wouldn't lose that vote. He'll make it 90%. There should be a mechanism to remove someone. If he said that he didn't want his black mistress appearing on instagrams with black people he could still be mayor. We need removal tools.

Well he's not wrong, his abusive drinking is a problem, his crack habit is a disaster that wont end.

Keep spiraling Ford... keep spiraling....

Personally, I don't want him to die.

But I want him to get the fuck away and get his life in order.

He can go back to his family sticker company where he has a guaranteed future.

We do have removal tools, they're called elections.

Rob Ford is really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really stupid.

A lot of us knew he was a dumbass when he was elected, but goddamn - he's outdone himself.

The problem with that is that you can have an idiot sitting in the mayor's seat with his thumb up his ass for years before an election.

Look, I don't like it any more than you do, but the power of the electorate is the foundation of democracy. If you get an idiot holding the mayor's office, it's because the people voted an idiot to the mayor's office.

Several years ago I bought a TV at Future Shop.

It stopped working the day after I bought it.

Should I not have been able to return it?

The same goes for voting someone in.

He violated the code of conduct, he violated the conflict of interest rules, he misused public resources on multiple occasions. His brother literally hands out cash to constituents, and I would not be shocked to learn if Rob does the same. He could be in jail, and still be mayor. We need some kind of removal tool. Even if it's a 90% council vote to call an early election.

Council has already stripped him of all pertinent powers. What purpose does removing him from office serve?

He still goes to meetings, still has a vote, and still represents the city. He needs to go.

He has a vote because he's still an elected official. Don't want him to vote? Then vote him out in elections. That's how it works.

Side note: I apologize, but I am actually going to sleep at this time, so I won't be responding. But I can pick this back up in the morning since this is a worthwhile discussion to be had.

I'm afraid he's going to die if he keeps this up. He seriously looks so unhealthy every time I see him: head bright red, sweating, drunk. Reading about his arm convulsing after hits the crack pipe makes me think he's just gonna drop one of these days. So, good choice to seek help for everyone's sake.

Thing that really sucks is that because he is so crazy, his defense force can now almost pretend they were being post ironic.

Damn it, I swear this is my last post and then I am going to bed.

I'm harping on about the electorate being the best tool for removing Ford from office, but it is not the only tool.

The provincial government has the authority to remove a mayor from office, but because of Premier Wynne being embroiled in her own scandal and that Ford is a Conservative ally, the optics could potentially damage the provincial Liberals politically and so they've decided to take the hands off approach here.

There you go. I sleep now.

Well, as he only smokes crack during his drunken stupors, technically, alcohol is his only problem. Crack smoking is just an unfortunate side effect.

He's gonna spin it that way anyway

Who will finish that subway for Scarborough now?
