I was talking with someone about this all yesterday, and I can virtually guarantee that Harper is going to step down as PM before the next election. If he knows he's going to lose, he's going to let someone else take the fall in his place.

But in a city like Toronto, where the Leafs can regularly "snatch defeat from the jaws of victory", that's enough.
I know people working in a couple of mayoral campaigns and they say his core support is bafflingly strong. Like, model-breakingly strong. None of them can figure it out. There's a stronger thing at play that Ford has unwittingly tapped into. And I really hope it's not suburban "fuck the downtown" sentiment.

We have an entire culture that just laughed at this addiction and turned him into some infamous pseudo-celebrity. He was never gonna get treatment while he was high off that attention.
Hopefully that's changed.

It's awful. He presents himself as "Joe Six Pack", and his supporters eat it up. But in reality he's got millions and has never had to work an actual day in his life. (His role at Deco was pretty much just signing cheques.)

Ratings. Besides, although no one wants to admit it, everybody loves a train wreck. In some regards we really are at the bottom of society when it comes to these things. Social media hasn't helped either.

In a twisted way, I almost want some sort of real emergency to happen with the city. I feel like he's gotten off easy partically due to the fact that there hasn't been any real major city event that required leadership, beyond a nastier than usual winter. If we had another SARS thing or something with actual consequences happening, that I think the council would sack up and just toss him. Somehow.

I don't think so. All he would do is stay away from the whole thing. The rest of city hall would handle the crisis in his place, and then he would come back and take credit for everything.

I heard from inside sources that Rob Ford is actually undercover as a crack smoker, they will eventually take down all the crack dealers that Ford has purchased from. He's acting like this so he doesn't blow his cover.
UPATE: In Canada this is our May long weekend. A three day weekend that people use to soak up the spring, go camping or open up their cottage.
Thus, rehab-prodigy Rob Ford is off the reservation and has been spotted running errands in the township close to his family cottage.

No, it's called May 2-4 because it celebrates Queen Victoria's birthday which was May 24th. It doesn't fall on that exact date because the government changed it back in the '50s to the Monday before May 25th so it would always land on a Monday.
