Even if he was charged and convicted of something it would almost be time for the next election before he could legally be removed from office.

The problem is do you really want to tailor your laws for the one off extremes like Rob Ford has turned out to be? Because you can bet that any laws that will allow council to turf a mayor can be abused to turf out non shitbags as well.

Plus y'know voters are supposed to be responsible for ensuring shitbags don't get elected to office.

Naw, council shouldn't be responsible for turfing anyone. They should be responsible for voting on a recall procedure which would be put to a vote by the citizens of Toronto.

Recalls have their own issues too don't forget. Everything has unintended consequences and it's too damn bad that we have to contemplate all of this because of what an absolute and complete moron Rob Ford is.
