Rob Ford: Still smoking crack. On video. Taking leave of absence.

The next natural question is, which police officer would tell him stuff like this? It would be nice to open Twitter and learn that there'll be a search warrant on you a few hours before it happens.

GASP.. REALLY??

What could it be? CAN IT REALLY BE HAPPENING???

I've always guessed that they'd arrest him when it is the least convenient for him. Like the day before a big debate or even the day he takes office if he got re-elected or something. That would stick it to him even more so.

The guy has cop friends or contacts and gets rumours from time to time. Sometimes they pan out, sometimes they don't.

I just hope he gets harassed by the media: "Some sources indicate you'll be arrested in April, how do you feel about that?" etc

"They spent $2M investigating me for what? Urinating on a tree? I've said all along if you have something to arrest me then come arrest me!"

I thought OPP was in charge of this file now?

The original TPS investigative team is still in place, they just have an OPP inspector in the oversight role.

Also, on that list of rumored charges: I can't see them laying DUI charges for the same reason they're not going to lay possession of a controlled substance charges over the video: sure, you may know he's done it, but you don't get a conviction on those types of charges unless you catch 'him in the act.

What's the "heinous" crime rumor that the twitter guy won't mention until he gets more solid evidence?

Aren't they focusing more on the allegations that Ford used his connections to get people hurt in jail or in the initial hunt for the tape?

This. They'd have to pull him over and do a breathalyser test to get him on DUI, and they'd have to have searched his person/car to get him on possession.

So don't get your hopes up, that list of charges appears just to be someone's wish list. :/

Or they're throwing it in a list of charges to keep his lawyers busy.

Unfartunately I think that works to his advantage trying to get elected again. If they can't nail him directly for a crime, his base will just put him in office again. Hell, they would TRY to get him elected again even if he is in jail. He could end up being the Zaphod Beetlebrox of Mayors.

I think Ford could out-drink Zaphod Beeblebrox.

Let's just get him a spaceship and send him off into space.

Yeah. It's looking like the best chance is that Ford gets included in the extortion to get the video and/or his cell phone back

I'm completely annoyed today by how trusting, gullible, and naïve Ford Nation is.

They believe, without question, that he saved this city a billion dollars. Because he says so. No fact checks needed, just his word. Because he would never lie about anything, would he?

Oh, and if he did lie, it wasn't a lie, he was just asked the wrong question, or someone else gave him the wrong info.

This is just a ploy from the liberal media to boost those elitist tax-and-spend candidates and try to smear an honest, hard-working man who fights every day to save taxpayer's hard-earned money. Nobody's perfect, folks, but if we work together, we can get Ford More Years™.

Don't tweets like this potentially complicate (or even obstruct) police investigations?

I'm sure Ford has his own sources telling him the exact same thing (if it's true), but live tweeting a sensitive police investigation seems sort of fucked up to me.

Don't see how. If the police finally have enough evidence to arrest him, the public knowing about it won't change things. And what's Ford going to do if he hears about the arrest beforehand? Run or shred documents? Those would just be additional charges.

It would be hilarious if Pedro got hit with an obstruction charge himself.

I'm not necessarily applying this to the specifics of this case. Obviously there's very little Ford can do given his public position.

That said, I can think of a ton of potential cases where "twitter leaks" of sensitive investigation details could seriously impede an investigation that depended on the suspects staying generally unaware.

So, in other words, yes. This kind of shit could result in destruction of evidence, or even a suspect successfully evading arrest. Those things aren't as easy to deal with as just laying on additional charges.

I'll believe it when it happens.

There have way too many empty "NOW HE'S SCREWEEEDD" reports over the past year.

If he gets arrested I'm curious to see what "Ford Nation" does and how they'll justify his actions. "He saved us monies tho and now you're taking him away from us. Leave the guy alone".

Well, remember when Chief Blair confirmed the existence of the crack video, and that it was in the police's possession? Ford and his brothers did a quick little tour of Etobicoke right after that.

First to the Ford clan compound to huddle with their mom, then to Deco Labels, and finally to Robbie's house. I have no doubt that that little mission was all about "taking care of" evidence before the police could search any of those places. That's probably also why Ford gets his fixes in restaurant or bar washrooms, rather than known locations, these days.

Also, why should Rob care about a destruction of evidence charge? Destruction of evidence, obstruction of justice, conflict of interest... he "didn't read the rule book", so he doesn't know about any of those thing.

how can this guy still remain in the position he's in and why is he getting so much mostly positive attention for his antics

I was critical of his kimmy kimmel appearance on youtube and the comments were like stop dissing Canada like they are proud of this guy or something, like wtf.

How has he not been sent up the river yet. Detroit's old corrupt mayor's in prison now; how long did thay take?

I remember hearing about it for a while on the morning radio (I live in Windsor, which would probably just be a suburb of Detroit if there wasn't an international border there). I remember he was living in a mansion in Texas while the trial was going on and he had written a book and was going on tours to promote the book. This was all a big deal because he was to be making repayments to the City of Detroit for all the money he has stolen, and a lot of people felt that these weekly (monthly?) payments were far too small considering he was living in a mansion. Of course he continued to claim he wasn't making enough money to make bigger repayments.

I guess my point is that yes, these things do take a while. Although presumably once Rob Ford get's arrested there's no way he could possibly be re-elected, right?

The problem is that his talking points (like the US style conservative politics that he plays up) works surprisingly well. He's been talking about the gravy train and saving a billion dollars forever, and people buy into it without ever fact-checking anymore. When people call his bullshit out, his rebuttal is "are you calling me a liar". It works so well with his base that it doesn't matter what he does, even if it should.

Yesterday's debate was fantastic at highlighting this: by arguing with him, you lower to his level, and you'll never win.
